Valve has posted some interesting stats for Left 4 Dead 2's mutation modes. The team has been watching you closely as you work your way through the zombie hordes, and it turns out you like realism and gore in your L4D games: Realism Versus and Chainsaw Massacre have been the two most popular mutations by far, with Realism Versus (which was later turned into a permanent mode) grabbing 41 percent of the player base during its featured week and 22 percent of the playing time. The Chainsaw mode was the "most tried" of the mutations, with 52 percent of the player base revving it up, and 14 percent of player minutes spent playing it.

Outside of mutations, versus and the co-op campaign actually both nab about 40 percent of players every day. And while Valve doesn't mention any of the least-played mutations, it does give notice to the Infected-doubling Hard Eight mutation, which was only tried by 26 percent of players but still grabbed over 10 percent of that week's playing time. This week, it's a "Gib Fest," with everyone on the team getting M60s and unlimited ammo. That sounds like a hunting accident just waiting to happen.

"Ignore the game for a minute. This is real world zombie apocalypse. You fought your way to a boat and boarded. You are unbitten. You are heading towards an Island in the Keys you hope is deserted but you have no idea. If you only had one thing you could wish to be on the boat with you heading towards that Island - what would it be?"

56% of all the L4D2 players chose Zoey.

Shotgun came in second place with 22%. Ellis came with 13% and Health Kit came with 7%.

Unless you're a big Madden fan, there's still a few weeks before the deluge of holiday releases begins and we're all swept away in its overabundance. It's the perfect time to pick up a title that might fall by the wayside in the next month or so -- say, like this week's Swag Saturday giveaway, Clash of the Titans.

Sure, Justin probably wouldn't agree that anyone should spend time with it, but, well, it's free! How can you say no? Drop a comment below with your favorite character from the 1981 film for a chance to win -- and keep an eye on your commenter-tied inbox! You should probably also watch out for the Kraken. He is, after all, right behind you.

To enter this giveaway:
  • Leave a comment with your favorite character from the 1981 film.
  • You must be 13 years or older and a resident of the US or Canada (excluding Quebec).
  • Limit 1 entry per person.
  • This entry period ends at 7:01PM ET on Sunday, August 7.
  • At that time, we will randomly select one winner to receive a copy of Clash of the Titans (Xbox 360) (ARV $60).

This week's Weekly Webcomic Wrapup winner XKCD helps to highlight one of the harsh realities that video games tend to ignore -- specifically, that frogs are monsters. What with their leaping onto highways full of cars and relishing in the disaster that follows. For shame, we say!

Virtual Shackles' "What is love?" (baby don't hurt me -- ahem) took third place, while Brawl in the Family's "Kirby's Pet" placed second. As always, please send in your suggestions for tomorrow's Wrapup or leave a comment below. And congrats to all the winners!

The third edition in the EverQuest franchise was teased by Sony Online Entertainment prez John Smedley this weekend at SOE's annual Fan Faire event. The publisher also held an extended panel on the game -- tentatively titled EverQuest Next -- where Smedley revealed that the game will have "less classes" and be "more like EQ1" in that regard. He also said it has been "built from the ground up to be scaleable" and that it'll be playable on anything from "a laptop" to "a powerful PC."

Alongside the reveal, SOE released a couple of in-game screenshots, which we've dropped into a gallery below. No projected release window was given, but a smattering of specific details about the next EQ installment can be found on EQ2 Wire's liveblog of the event.

The North American release of Tekken 6 was the brightest spot on Namco Bandai's game release calendar for its fiscal Q1 (which ended June 30). The fighting title sold 1.07 million copies in the US in that quarter, giving a clue as to why Namco Bandia would be so eager to collaborate with Capcom on Street Fighter x Tekken -- it means more Tekken games.

The next best-selling game in the quarter was the third Taiko Drum Master game on DS, which sold 170,000 copies in Japan; Ben 10 Alien Force, a title published by subsidiary D3 Publisher, sold 110,000 in the US and Europe and the latest Super Robot Wars for DS sold 110,000 in Japan.

Overall, the "content" division brought in ¥32.9 billion ($385 million) in net sales in the quarter, up from ¥20.2 billion last year. How is it up with lowered sales? Well, this year, the visual and musical content divisions were integrated with the game division. So it's kind of a technicality. It only lost ¥619 million in operating losses, compared to last Q1's ¥4.1 billion

According to the tweets of Ubisoft community developer Kimi Matsuzaki, ex-Ubisoft creative director Clint Hocking has taken a job in some capacity with LucasArts. Though Hocking has yet to note as much in public (we checked his personal blog, his LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook pages), he did announce that he was leaving Ubisoft Montreal back in May.

It also appears that Hocking has left his former home of Montreal for San Francisco, as indicated by a slew of tweets on the subject. Okay, okay ... you're right -- we're starting to feel kind of creepy about this. We've reached out to both Hocking and LucasArts for more details on his new job and will let you know, directly from the source, as soon as we know more.

Update: LucasArts confirmed to GameSpot that Hocking has joined its ranks as "creative director on an unannounced project."
