It's because sony encrypts everyone's personal information in plaintext, meaning it's just a matter of taking it for anyone to do anything. They kinda deserve this in a way really
You'd think after the first couple of hacks Sony would consider encrypting their passwords. @Popple: Earliest I can see concerning this hack is last Tuesday, and the majority of the new sites have only reported the hack today. Might not be super-recent, but I don't think I'd class it as old just yet.
Sony's problem is that they probably outsourced all these different projects to different people and never questioned what they did. Hopefully after all this they will create a security checklist to run every project through.
If that conversation took place in the cbox it's understandable that I wouldn't have seen it, since you guys all seem to be on there primarily when I'm asleep or doing other things. If it's a board post somewhere then I must have missed it.
