EA yanking down Madden fan sites, says it's due to copyright issues

EA is working with Prima to offer an official Madden NFL 12 guide, and they're also putting together an online site that is going to include video playbook features and much more. This is the same kind of content that fan sites have been offering for years, but this year a lot of them are being bombarded with requests from EA to dismantle themselves.

Prima no doubt wants EA to take care of these competing fan sites, but EA says the closure of these other outlets has nothing to do with the competitive content.

"We fully support our community and the creation and sharing of content that will help fans enjoy the Madden NFL titles. There were a few isolated issues with websites infringing on copyrighted material for commercial use, which has been addressed."

There are other Madden fan sites still up and running, so perhaps EA is telling the truth on this one. It's just funny that they go after these sites now that Prima is offering some unique guide content.
