"Mario Kart be a pretty stable series, all things considered, so production duties be chiefly handled by Hideki Konno while I mostly oversaw the complete picture. With Mario Kart Wii, that included the idea a the steering wheel, 'n with this one, that included things like the idea a adding hang-gliding stuff t' Mario Kart. I make the decisions involving new things t' build the gameplay with, in other words.

The way the gliders fly isn't particularly faithful t' real life, but I think it feels pretty good in action. I be actually pretty well against some a the customization features a the game, though. It can be fun t' win money for racing 'n use it t' buy parts 'n such, but I didn't think that had much t' do with the core fun a the series. The idea for that came from the studio staff, though, 'n me final response be 'If ye can build this customization on top a a solid control 'n gameplay foundation, then go ahead.'

Sometimes people yelled at me t' look at things more closely, but like I said, the core a Mario Kart be pretty solid by this point 'n I think it be safe t' have it evolve in a pretty staid 'n traditional manner. The basic message here be 'Mario Kart's been powered up for the Nintendo 3DS,' 'n I think the online upgrades in particular be pretty neat. A lot a time be spent on how t' pillage all the individual components working together -- Wi-Fi 'n Street Pass, local 'n Internet play.

Coming up with the title be actually a lot a trouble for us, but it be the seventh game, 'n so it just sort a came down t' what felt best. Besides, 7 be supposed t' be a lucky number, isn't it?" - Shigeru Miyamoto
