"There's the competitive game and the campaign game, both of which can be multiplayer, both of which can be single-player," Pitchford explained to me. "Some people like to play campaign, some people like to play competitive, some people like to play alone, or with friends, or enemies, or random people. Some people like to do it all.
"We're finding ourselves engaged in metagame stuff, accomplishing things and finding rewards for those accomplishments. I don't want to risk saying 'RPG,' because I don't want to associate this with Borderlands, but as gamers we understand how overtime accomplishment can take something from a consumable experience and turn it into something that can be a hobby for us." - Gearbox's Randy Pitchford
