So if the PSP store can recognize you have a UMD in, then why can't you just download games you aleady own from the store.

Because Sony knows that there are tons of people gullible enough to think that the PSP Go is worth it.
But people like us who know that a smaller, more expensive memory card, no UMD slot, and other things aren't worth $250 just ignore it.
Look, even if the PSP Go is smaller and has more memory, if you have a PSP already, it's not worth it, the normal PSP can download games, too, but with the PSP you can at least trade in games. But with the Go, you spend more and more money on the downloadable games, but you can't trade them in. And if something happens to your PSN account, you're screwed. In the end, you can only get the system's trade-in value when trading in a Go, you get nothing for what's on it. In the end, it's just a scam.

First off, there is no content tied to the PSP Go that would attribute to the value. It is tied to an account. Furthermore complaining about downloadable content is ridiculous. Not only does it take away the physical limitations of a disc based product, but it also saves a significant amount of battery life due to the lack of UMD. The PSP Go is in all ways an improved system, and while it really isn't worth it right now for people who already own a PSP, saying that the system is flawed due to its download only approach is extremely shortsighted. Is the iPhone a scam as well? Hell, you can't even take downloadable games on the consoles anywhere.
Outside of that just look at what a technical marvel the little bugger is. Full blue-tooth support compatible with the Sixaxis, being able to pause a game in session and access other content including other games. Now certainly it does look like shit now, but so did the originally PSP. It needs time to tweak and advance its feature set. Remember, unlike the DSi, the PSP Go is already capable of a full array of firmware updates.

Are you seriously saying it's better to get a $250 Go than to get a $130 PSP which has all the same features and more?

And yes, DSi has firmware updates, too.

The original PSP does not have more features than the Go, and the Go arguably will soon have a better library.
And I never said the DSi was not capable of firmware updates. I said that the PSP is more finely tuned in that aspect.

The PSP can download games from PSN, too. The only features the Go has besides that are BlueTooh and a Microphone. A 3000 has a mic, and having BlueTooth is totally unnecessary.
No, you said, "Unlike the DSi, the PSP Go is already capable of a full array of firmware updates."
How is the DSi incapable of a full array of firmware updates?
