Mercenary Kings is a side-scrolling run-and-gun with weapon crafting elements. Developer Tribute Games (made up of the team from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Wizorb) now requires some help crafting the actual game, for which it's launched a Kickstarter drive.
The Kickstarter goal is $75,000, but Tribute is hoping to raise $200,000 or more, at which point it'll be able to include more content, including four-player online co-op, additional missions, weapons, character customizations, and more things to have more of.
Rewards include copies of the game (and Tribute's previous game, Wizorb), beta access, t-shirts, hoodies designed by Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O'Malley, and more extravagant goals like being drawn into the game as a hostage by animator Paul Robertson.

My god you can smell the hipster from miles aways
Are you kidding me, guys? This is like my dream game. 4-player online Metal Slug RPG with Paul Robertson onboard? This shit can't come soon enough.
I loved Scott Pilgrim in comic and video game form, I just found the movie to be a bit rubbish because sodding Michael Cera infected his character with his awkward personality.
But yeah Scott Pilgrim aside, this game excites me
"We are going to use pixel art in our game because we certainly can't be bothered to do it right or make our own original and well done art style."
"We assure you that this game will have new and fun concepts...that we certainly didn't steal from other video games that have been used many times in the past!"
"Also give us money because we don't want to be creative."
this video summed up in 3 sentences.
"We're going to get Paul Robertson on the project because he's a *crag*awesome artist and animator, that uses clean and stunning pixel art that doesn't try to be retro or lazy."
"We were inspired by some of these incredibly fun games, so we're going to incorporate the gameplay of some of this shit in our own flavor"
"We don't want to sacrifice our creative view for the game with a publisher, so we'll crowdfund instead."
Like, everything you just said was stupid and baseless, Nas.
Paul Robertson's art is better than anything I've ever seen Nas post on either this site or the old one, which is evidence enough that her insinuating that "pixel art" = "bad art" couldn't be steeped deeper in inferioroid, subhuman stupidity.
Most pixel artists are shit, yes (Most art in general is shit), but when done right pixel art can be gorgeous. Shantae: Risky's Revenge (As well as older games such as Final Fantasy VI) is proof of this. Also, "Kickstarter is hipster," Claus?
Because *crag* donating to potentially awesome projects because the big boys would have never funded it meaning it would never be made (This is as stupid as claiming that "pixel art" is "hipster;" how can it be "hipster" when it's perhaps the most mainstream, ultra-popular form of digital art on the internet? Shit-titty butt*crag*.).
Christ, some of you people have become so averse to being hipsters that you've become some form of hipster yourselves.
Goddamn it, people. Just judge the *crag*ing game if it looks fun and interesting. Stop throwing around these stupid words you don't even know how to use.
Also I did watch the whole video.
QUALITY THREAD
Don't try to cop out of your insinuation that pixel art is bad, though. Your post clearly implied that they could have chosen a "better" art style than "poorly-made pixel art", whatever your intention may have been (And as someone who claims to be knowledgeable about digital art enough to make qualified judgments on it, it baffles me how you could have assumed artwork by PAUL *crag*ing ROBERTSON would be "bad.").
Crump, I liked you better when you weren't a hipster.
@Tails: Nowhere have I demonstrated any hipsterdom. The fact that I was just referencing Alex Kierkegaard in another post demonstrates that I am, if anything, the anti-thesis of the hipster.
this thread is shit and everyone should feel ashamed
I like AK/icycalm because he's one of the few actual game critics: someone who actually takes the time to analyze games in his critiques, as opposed to filling them with unnecessary summary and vague criticisms like so many "game reviewers" out there. He also often attempts to get to the root of what makes video games enjoyable to us in the first place, when such philosophical discussion is practically unheard of in the media, so he gets bonus points for that. Sure, his articles occasionally feature a bit of sexism/racism/homophobia, which is very unfortunate, but many historical minds typically revered and seen as great were also sexist/racist/homophobic (Nietzsche, Mikhail Bakunin, and Thomas Jefferson, for example), and to dismiss all of his writings/points based on that alone would be committing the Genetic Fallacy.
"I don't give a shit about any Genetic Fallacy."
Now look who's being a hipster. Anyway, this is why your argument is invalid. You do not care about avoiding fallacies, demonstrating that you do not care about logic.
"This guy isn't a *crag*ing philosopher,"
By what standards?
Definition of Philosophy
Seems to fit the bill.
"he's a videogame reviewer for christ sakes."
If a video game review isn't based on a solid criteria/philosophy, then how is it valuable?
"He has no excuse for his racist, sexist, lgbt hating bullshit, and no excuse for stalking and harrasing a woman in this day and age either."
You're right, there is no excuse for any of that. Doesn't make his views on video games any less valid, though.
(Putting "ad hominems" in quotes as if you, again, don't value the significance behind fallacies; more "anti-establishment" hipsterdom, Tails?)
I'm "putting him on a pedestal" for the same reason philosophers put Nietzsche on a pedestal, horror writers put H.P. Lovecraft on a pedestal and anarcho-leftists put Mikhail Bakunin on a pedestal: even if some of his ideas are invalid that DOES NOT mean that ALL of his ideas are invalid, and it's ludicrous (And, worse, a sign of the very anti-intellectual hipsterdom that is turning humanity into a species of ignorant, stupid subhumans) to imply otherwise. Being a bad, bigoted person does not mean that someone is a bad philosopher, bad horror writer, bad revolutionary leftist or, yes, a bad game critic.
No Crump, don't want to sound like a dick or nothing, but icycalm is *crag*ed up. He talks like a fag, and his shit's all retarded.
How so? (Bigotry aside, because we're talking about him as a game critic right now. But on an off-topic note, lol @ dismissing everything he's ever done for his anti-lgbt bigotry and then claming he "talks like a fag." Nice ableism right there at the end, too.).
i dont know where i am anymore
Crump, are you telling me you never seen this. I bet you would enjoy it, it's about humanity devolving into a lesser species of idiots.
Ah; yes, that is a hilarious film. I cannot remember every quote from it, though, so you have my apologies.
Frankly, I don't have an opinion on this game. If it's basically a side-scrolling tf2, so be it. If it's shit, I'll just steer clear of it. Pixel art and the term "retro" are used way too much, but other than that I'm keeping away from this argument.
