Koji Kondo, Super Mario Bros. composer

"I suppose the keywords for Mario music are 'bright,' 'fun' and 'energetic.' I appreciate being told that it's a unique feel. I get a firm grasp of the assorted tempos behind the moves that appear in the game, as well as things like the general timing behind button presses; then I build a musical rhythm that matches them. I also try to build melodies that stay fresh no matter how many times you play the game, something that makes the game feel more fun as you're going through it."

Takashi Tezuka, Super Mario Bros. designer

"I feel it's a great honor to be involved with the development of the Mario series, something that's been enjoyed by this huge amount of people for over a quarter of a century now.

"A lot of developers get involved with each new game in the series, and even though the studio makeup changes each time, the creative spirit of the very first Mario is still passed down to them to this day. The younger developers, people who have been playing Mario games since they were children, add their new thoughts and ideas to this spirit each time.

"It really makes me feel like we're raising the seeds that will continue to create new Mario games going into the future, and I can't tell you how exciting it is to continue working with them.

"So I think the thing I'm most proud of is the fact that we have this wonderful development environment."
