App development studio Dekko aims to blur the line separating the real world and the blocky surreality of Minecraft with DekkoScan, an upcoming iOS app that allows users to import 3D objects into Minecraft and render them as in-game sculptures.
Dekko team member portemantho details the app's creation on Reddit, explaining that it uses technology originally built for the augmented reality racing game Tabletop Speed. The app uses an iPhone or iPad's camera to scan a 3D object, then "cubifies" the results using existing block types within Minecraft. Enterprising hackers previously produced similar results using Kinect.
DekkoScan has been submitted to Apple for approval, and should appear in the App Store shortly.
