Looks really good for fan made. I don't understand why they had to use sprites of completely different styles though. It just makes it look really amateur.
Looks cute, worth a try. But why couldn't he make his own characters? Is it THAT hard? And does he plan to reuse music from other games? Seriously? There are actually a lot of composers on the RPG Maker forums. But, it looks cute. I just hope he didn't overpower everything.
