FYI, you need twice the filesize of free space to download from the PlayStation Store.

Else you will get the "You do not have enough free space" message even though it looks like you do. So to download the 2671MB God of War III demo, you need 5342 MB free.

Space to download + space to install. "Installing" is probably just making a decrypted copy of itself. Then it deletes the original download.

Installing is a way to decrease loadtimes on the ps3 cuz it's hardware isn't very optimized.

He is talking about downloadable games, but you are correct, as far as I can tell. That isn't very far, since I don't know much about the hardware of any of the consoles.
