Honestly, we shouldn't be thinking about a 51st state because that would imply a return of the zealous nationalism that fueled America's expansionism. I'd hate to see the nation return to that kind of shit. Now, of course, if we were talking nations coming together (Anti-nationalism/globalism), then I'd agree to that. There's already the European Union; those guys seem to know what they're doing. In time, the EU will be indistinguishable from one big country, so why can't the US, Canada, and Mexico do the same, and form a North American Union of sorts? In the end, the fate of the entire world is that there will be no individual nations, but one global society.
