EA has had the exclusive rights to the Porsche brand of sports cars for some time now, but that hasn't prevented other developers from sub-licensing Porsche vehicles through EA. Most notably, Turn 10 managed to include 35 different Porsche models in its last simulation racer, Forza Motorsport 3.

Evidently, the days of playing friendly with exclusive licenses are over for EA (yes, I'm aware of the irony of that statement given the whole NFL thing--just go with it, okay?), as according to an interview with creative director Dan Greenwalt up at ForzaMotorsport.net, Turn 10 and Microsoft have made repeated attempts to find an equitable solution to once again sub-license the Porsche brand for its upcoming sequel, Forza Motorsport 4. However, those requests ultimately fell on deaf ears.

For Forza 4, we were looking forward to adding even more Porsche cars, and we were especially looking forward to featuring multiple Porsche experiences in our new Autovista mode. In the end, however, EA couldn’t see their way towards collaborating again. We’ve asked our contacts at EA to reconsider their position frequently and regularly over the last 18 months. We also reached out to various influential people in gaming to lobby on our behalf, and on your behalf, but that was to no avail.

The turnabout in attitude likely has something to do with the introduction of EA's Shift series, which it views as a viable competitor in the simulation racing market. Given that fact, it's not altogether surprising, if still a bit disappointing, that EA would choose to keep its licenses close to its vest, so as to avoid aiding a direct competitor.

Nonetheless, Turn 10 had hoped to work with EA once again, and was disappointed with EA's refusal to acquiesce, especially given Turn 10's own willingness to work with other developers with its own exclusive licenses.

While we respect EA’s need to run their business as they see fit, we’ve regularly collaborated in the past and hope we can find our way back to that approach. Forza had the exclusive license for all Ferrari cars, for example, on the Xbox and PC platforms. But at the end of the day, we’ve always found that we just weren’t willing to block other racing games from having Ferraris outright, as we believed that this would do nothing but hurt the racing ecosystem.

It is most certainly EA's prerogative to do as it pleases with the licenses it holds, but for as much as the Shift series attempts to dig into the sim racing market, it's arguable whether or not that series is really relevant enough at this juncture to argue that collaboration with Turn 10 would harm its stature. Suddenly blocking a developer from including an entire line of vehicles isn't exactly the kind of move that engenders good feelings within the racing game community, either.

Since it looks like there's nothing to be done about this prior to Forza 4's release, players will simply have to make do with a trio of RUF vehicles. RUF, as you may or may not be aware, is the manufacturer known for completely reworking Porsche bodies into custom sports cars. It's likely little consolation for those who had hoped to dig into any of the 35 originally planned Porsche models, but hey, at least it's something.

#forzalopnik It's really no surprise that on this list of the 99 most-raced vehicles in Forza 3, the pole position goes to the Bugatti Veyron and its 1,001 virtual horsepower. Right behind it? The Datsun 510, a 40-year-old compact Japanese car. Why? More »

Released in October 2009, Forza Motorsport 3 has been a big hit for developer Turn 10. More than 400 million races have occurred in the past year-and-a-half, in a variety of cars. But which cars have been used the most? Turn 10 handed IGN a list of the most raced cars in Forza 3. Check out the full list below...

With all the hype surrounding the likes of Gran Turismo 5 and Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, Forza Motorsport 3 dev Turn 10 Studios would like owners of its Xbox 360-exclusive racing sim to know that they're not forgotten. To that end, it's releasing the Community Choice Classics pack on December 14 for 400 Microsoft Points ($5), featuring 10 new cars voted into the game by fans.

For us, the highlight of the pack is the 1982 DeLorean DMC-12. (We probably shouldn't tell Turn 10 it could've just sold the car by itself for $5 and called it a day.) You'll find the full list of cars after the brake break, and remember: just like election day, you can't complain about the winners if you didn't vote. Well, you can, but you'll sound like a big jerk.

The holiday Xbox 360 S bundle packing Alan Wake and Forza 3 has been confirmed for the US. Previously revealed for multiple territories, Major Nelson has officially unveiled the bundle for the US. As with other regions, the bundle will include a 250GB Xbox 360 S console, a retail copy of Forza Motorsport 3 and a token to download Alan Wake from Xbox Live Games on Demand. The bundle runs $299.99 and should hit the shelves within the next few weeks.

[Thanks, Kromis]

Just in case you were worried that there weren't quite enough Xbox 360 bundles to choose from, it looks like Microsoft has another one headed down the pike. The bundle in question includes a 250GB Xbox 360 S console as well as Alan Wake and the eternal pack-in, Forza Motorsport 3. The image above -- pulled directly from one of Microsoft's retailer resource services -- is denoted as a Canadian bundle.

Siliconera also reports that the bundle has been announced for South Korea at a price of 398,000 won ($356). A tipster has informed Kotaku that the bundle is available in Europe as well, retailing for €250 ($348). We've contacted Microsoft to find out if the bundle is coming stateside as well.

One intriguing note about the bundle: It doesn't actually include a physical copy of Alan Wake, instead offering a code to download the game in its entirety (see a close-up image in the gallery below). While it's likely to be a Games on Demand title in the near future, it's also worth noting that Remedy has expressed interest in releasing the game in downloadable episodes, a la Fable 2.

Evidence has surfaced that Microsoft plans to re-release Turn 10's Forza 3, seemingly as an "Ultimate Collection" with what we can assume would include much, if not all of the game's downloadable content. Australia's OFLC ratings board has listed the potential encore package -- which, if released this holiday, would appear to be a friendly challenge to Sony's long-awaited Gran Turismo 5.

Additional retail sources could not immediately corroborate the Forza 3 Motorsport: Ultimate Collection listing, but we'll update as this story develops.

What most people don't tell you about the fast lane is that it's quite expensive. It's not that the lane itself is paved in gold -- it's that the faster a car goes, the more money it seems to cost. Thankfully, video games allow us to experience this thrill at an affordable price, and this week's Xbox Live Deal of the Week is all about joining the racing elite on the cheap.

Five Forza Motorsport 3 DLC packs have each been discounted by 40 percent this week (through Sunday), bringing them down a mere $3 a piece. You can see more details about the packs by checking out the links below.

A wise man once said, "One can never have too many exotic sportscars." Or maybe it was a rich man. Either way, the lastest Forza Motorsport 3 add-on, the World Class Car Pack, is now available for 400 Microsoft Point ($5). The full list of new cars is posted after the break.

A quick note for any driving simulation fans that have yet to dive into Forza Motorsport 3: Amazon is currently offering Turn 10's latest opus as a Gold Box deal. The game is selling new for $49.99, making it $10 cheaper than the retail price. Of course, if you've waited this long without picking up a new copy, you could probably pick up a used copy for less. Then again, there's no telling whose grubby little fingers have been groping those, so new certainly has its advantages.

There's a new Xbox 360 bundle headed to the land of the rising sun, and it's oddly appropriate. Spotted by Siliconera on Japanese retail site Famicom Plaza, the bundle -- apparently slated for an April 28 release -- includes an Xbox 360 Elite with the usual trimmings, along with Forza Motorsport 3 and Bayonetta.

While the pairing might seem strange at first, think about it. What it amounts to is cars and overtly sexual women, which have enjoyed a symbiotic relationship on magazine covers since time immemorial. The bundle clocks in -- get it, racing? -- at ¥29,000 ($312). Siliconera notes that both games normally retail for around $75, making this a pretty good deal for prospective 360 owners in Japan.

Turn 10 is giving players a chance to vote for the vehicles that will be included in a future Forza Motorsport 3 DLC release. Running until January 29, a poll on car enthusiast site Jalopnik.com features 120 vehicles for players to choose from, focusing specifically on "iconic" and "classic" rides. The partnership with Jalopnik doesn't end there; March's Forza 3 DLC pack will feature the most "coveted 2009 and 2010 models" as chosen by the site's editors. If you're looking for your favorite whip to make the cut, you best make your click. Wait, what's this? The Batmobile is not on the list? Where's the option for a write-in candidate, huh?

[Paul J. Taylor] Since it's late October launch, Forza 3 has sped into over 1 million homes worldwide, marking a commercial milestone for Turn 10's critically acclaimed racer. In conjunction with today's release of the game's second and now premium DLC car pack (the first one's always free, ain't it?), dubbed "Hot Holidays," Microsoft has tallied up some Forza 3 stats. According to the publisher, players have so far tracked 6.6 million hours and 590 million collective miles -- no word on flats or oil changes. Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg tweets that "more than 4M [million] auction bids" have lead to "$18.7 billion" virtual dollars spent (we have to imagine at least a billion went to that gorgeous coop pictured above). Of course, Microsoft has it's eye on the real dollars, offering today's 10-car pack for 400 ($5). The full list of cars is posted after the break. Additionally, a second premium pack has been confirmed for January 12, and -- wouldn't you know it -- that date coincides with the kick-off of the Detroit International Auto Show. Huh, you think that was planned?

In one of those "We feel sort of gross about this, but it's okay 'cause we get something cool for free" kinda ways, Microsoft today announced a partnership with Hyundai to bring the Genesis Coupe to Forza 3 as DLC on November 17. And not just one measly version, but three: a Rhys Millen Racing Red Bull Hundai Genesis Coupe, an HKS Genesis Coupe, and a "one of a kind" Genesis Coupe will arrive as a pack - free of charge! And though the name Hyundai may not exactly be synonymous with high speed racing, we're assured their modded counterparts will help to clear any misconceptions.Gallery: Forza 3 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
