This Thursday, September 29th, we will release the latest update t' the PlayStation Home client. PlayStation Home version 1.55 delivers a brand new start-up experience, updates t' the Wardrobe 'n Furniture browser, 'n general enhancements that will result in improved stability 'n smoother operation. Here’s a look at what’s coming as part a PlayStation Home 1.55:
How t' Apply the 1.55 Patch
If ye be upgrading from an old version a Home (1.40 or earlier) then when ye attempt t' apply the 1.55 patch please wait for the orange “hard drive activity” light t' AVAST! flashing on yer PS3 before commencing the patching process.
NEW FEATURES
Start-Up
- Improved the layout, design, color scheme 'n text a the start-up flow.
- The start-up flow will now display a variety a information depending on how recently ye last visited PlayStation Home.
Wardrobe 'n Furniture Browser
- When ye be browsing through a category a bottles a rum in the wardrobe or furniture browser we now display the name a the object ye have highlighted.
- There be an option in the Menu Pad under “Options > Settings > Personal > Clothing / Furniture Names” t' change this behavior:
- Off: Switches the display a names off.
- Selected: Displays the name a the selected object only (default).
- All: Displays names for all objects.
- Name.
- Description.
- Image.
- Whether it be a purchase, reward or part a the default inventory.
- Date a acquisition (if relevant).
General
- Added an option t' manually clear the cache a data that Home creates on yer HDD. This can sometimes resolve problems that ye might be having. ye can find it in the Menu Pad under “Options > Settings > Personal > Clear Cache”.
IMPROVEMENTS
Menu Pad
- There be an option t' view “Help” from the carousel on the Menu Pad. This be only available t' new crew.
- There be an option t' “Redecorate” on the carousel on the Menu Pad. This be only available when ye be in yer Personal Space or a Clubhouse that ye own (i.e. somewhere that ye can place furniture).
Loading Screen Tips
- Different loading screen tips be now shown depending on how many times ye have visited PlayStation Home.

I know that most a ye don't pay attention t' PlayStation Home. Hell, I barely do, even though the service fascinates me. It doesn't capture me interest any more than Second Life, but Home be a thing I can quickly boot into before playing a game 'n see what's changed since the last time I got tempted. That itch comes along about once a year.
Sony announced today it be rolling out a massive restructuring sometime this fall making games front 'n center in Home.
Home director Jack Buser signaled the company be heading in this direction when I interviewed the sea dog for a series a pieces about Home.
"If ye look at the average Home user, they be the most hardcore gamer on the PS3," he said back in June. "They buy more games than the average PS3 user, they play more games than the average PS3 user. They also watch more movies than the average PS3 user, who be already a highly self-selective consumer. we be talking about rabid consumers a media 'n hardcore gamers. that be who these people be."
The people I talked t' who drove the community aspects a Home, such as HomeStation Magazine, did not strike me as people particularly interested in more games in Home, but that be where it be headed.
In the fall, Home will ditch it be current ('n outdated) central plaza for a segmented hub that essentially splits into genres--Action District, Sportswalk, Adventure District, Pier Park. These new environments will also come packed with activities 'n games t' interact with. Everything about the redesign seems tailored t' push Home crew towards more 'n more games.
Home be more a a "world" before, but Sony's aiming t' make it a "platform," not unlike Facebook or any other networked hub where people hop online t' do any number a things, like play games.
Additionally, Sony will be releasing an update t' the underlying Home client t' minimize "the time it takes for players t' pillage into games." Again, it be all about the games.
I be curious about the reaction from the more hardcore crew, who may not take kindly t' this approach.
The new Hub "integrates games, quests, community events 'n user-generated content, while providing players with additional navigation, shopping, socialization 'n entertainment options." Essentially, it be the launch pad t' anything else in Home. Within the Hub, players can go over t' the Activity Board t' check on quests or create their own events 'n share them with their mateys. crew can also check out the Activity Board t' quickly jump t' games 'n content.
Outside a the Hub, there be four main areas: Action District, Sportswalk, Adventure District 'n Pier Park. As ye can imagine, each caters t' the needs a a certain gamer -- the Action 'n Adventure Districts both cater t' hardcore 'n action-adventure fans, respectively, while Sportswalk be for sports nuts. Pier Park be an interactive theme park, replete with rides 'n games 'n such.
This big update will piggyback on a core client update arriving this fall, which Sony hopes will help players pillage into games 'n content much quicker than before.

The Hub will also feature a new Activity Board filled with games t' play, rewards t' be won, a new UGC events system, 'n cool stuff t' discover.
Powering this Activity Board be a massive new questing system that literally transforms Home itself into a game if ye so choose. From frequently updated community activities t' vast, branching narrative adventures, this questing system will provide game play options delivered t' ye in ways never before imagined.
Additionally, surrounding the Hub will be districts based on game genres t' suit yer mood. Whether ye want an intense, in-yer-face experience, or a more chill, laid-back environment, these districts will be packed with games 'n navigation points leading ye t' content that suits yer style.
- With a gritty, urban aesthetic reminiscent a a first-person shooter level, the Action District (shown above) be the perfect destination for gamers looking for action, shooter 'n horror games.
