There are so many games out there we couldn't possibly review them all. Welcome to Snapshot, where we highlight games that might fall outside our usual coverage but are still something we think you should know about. Today: Home for PC. Home doesn't take more than an hour or two to complete - and you'll have to do so in one sitting, as there is no save system - but that doesn't mean it won't have a lasting effect. As a horror-themed adventure game, the simple, pixelated 2D presentation belies Home's ability to disquiet and unsettle. It serves as a great reminder of what older games once taught us: With a little bit of coaxing, imagination can take you a long way.

Sony launched No Man's Land today, a freemium shooter for PlayStation Home ... yes, you read that last part correctly. The premise? Shoot other people in a post-apocalyptic America. Beyond that, it's a 4v4 cover-based shooter with team deathmatch and scavenger modes, the latter requiring players to collect salvage and bring it back to base (capture the flag with multiple flags).

No Man's Land makes of use your Home avatar, strapping guns and armor over your virtual likeness. The armor can also be worn outside of the game in the Home space. No Man's Land is available now through PlayStation Home, and you can learn more about it by visiting the PlayStation Blog.

No Man’s Land is a new free-to-play PlayStation Home game that transports you to a post-apocalyptic America that has known only war for decades. Through this devastated wasteland, you must scavenge to survive while confronting tribes of heavily armed enemies focused on their own survival. Employing a cutting-edge cover point system and immersive gameplay, No Man’s Land is a first-of-its-kind on a console: a free-to-play multiplayer shooter.

We are proud to bring you this breakthrough Home experience. Comprised of industry veterans who have worked across a wide range of platforms and genres, VEEMEE saw a unique opportunity with PlayStation Home to evolve gaming by blending the immersive gameplay endemic to AAA games with the social and “freemium” aspects of casual games. This is something that is only possible on PlayStation, with its free online network and vibrant community. No Man’s Land is a game that brings something new – and a bit different – to the Home platform.

7408979400_4d2c4da0e4_z.jpg

No Man’s Land is a multiplayer third-person tactical shooter, featuring a cover-based movement system and 4v4 team battles. Following the completion of a tutorial session, the player is given an introductory loadout that allows access to the Drydock and the game. Armor and weapon upgrades can be purchased from the Commerce Points in a variety of combinations, which we plan to evolve in time.

The Environment and the Cover System

The challenge for the game universe of No Man’s Land was to create a realistic environment that looked like it had been worn down by conflict for decades. The focus was on rendering a devastated world where obvious resources were depleted and what remained was hard to find and dangerous to claim.

7408979182_cca1097c82_z.jpg

The cover-to-cover movement system is a deliberate departure from the usual run-and-gun gameplay of many other third-person shooters. No Man’s Land promotes the idea that in order to survive, “cover is king.” The cover control system makes moving between cover natural and fluid. Players can queue additional cover moves or interrupt any move at any time to divert to another cover position. This results in players making frantic dashes between pieces of cover, often taking evasive action when under fire, so they can reach the relative safety of the next cover point. It means players have to think ahead: where they want to be, which direction they want to shoot from, and where their teammates are. This encourages players to work as a team to provide covering fire for each other as they advance and sprint between cover points.

Armor and Weapons

The developers decided to make use of the Home avatars so to increase the player’s connection with the in-game No Man’s Land survivor, which means that your Home avatar will strap on armor while its other physical features remain intact. Plus you can wear it out of the space into the game world too! We all love character customization so have been keen to offer as much flexibility here as possible.

Armor comes in several variants, increasing in weight and damage absorption properties. Heavier armor will slow survivor movement between cover, but it will be able to absorb more damage. You choose between speed of movement and the damage protection.

7408979250_d8fb15b9a9_z.jpg

It is possible to mix and match all the armor pieces into whichever configuration you require. Light armor for hands and feet? Medium for legs and torso? Heavy for the head? You decide. The weight, speed and damage absorption properties for your character are then calculated appropriately.

Right from the start, the intention was to make No Man’s Land as flexible as possible: from the grenade variants, to the customizable armor loadouts, to the four-weapon carrying system. This means that players can buy any combination of weapons and armor to fit their playing style, while offering a variety of visual styles.

Game Modes

There are two modes of play: Scavengers and Team Deathmatch. Team Deathmatch is the time-tested ‘kill-every-enemy-that-moves’ game mode. In the Scavengers game mode teams must collect salvage packs from the depleted cityscape. These resources are all that are left of the old world. Each team must bring all the salvage to their ‘salvage dump’ before the other team does. This game mode is essentially capture the flag, but with multiple flags. Players earn points for placing salvage on their team’s salvage dump, for stealing enemy salvage, and for simply killing the enemy.

7408979314_b616fc249a_z.jpg

“…the old ones used to call this place the United States of America, we just call it…No Man’s Land…”

We hope you have a great time playing No Man’s Land! We look forward to hearing what you think so we can continue to evolve this unique, free, and first of its kind console game. Post your thoughts here in the comments section and head to the official PlayStation Home forums to continue the conversation.

This Wednesday, June 20th, brings a new challenge of post-apocalyptic survival in the form of an intense new multiplayer third person shooter–No Man’s Land. Newer developer Bigyama releases several new lines of furniture, x7 gets several new early-access items and another sweet bundle, Lockwood’s Cucumber line of furniture gets an exciting expansion with some modern contemporary beds and a developer diary, and VEEMEE releases an arcade bundle giving a sweet deal on their collection of arcade hits.

Hyper-violent and intensely gritty, No Man’s Land is a post-apocalyptic third-person shooter unlike any other game in the history of PlayStation Home. Race through urban wastelands where chaos and disorder are ever-present, dodging enemy fire and exacting revenge on roaming bands of death-addicted warriors in a world gone mad. Squads of up to four players each clash in two game modes – Team Deathmatch and Scavengers – in pulse-pounding multiplayer mayhem where only the savage survive.

  • Action-packed gameplay in a dark, desperate third-person shooter framework that introduces signature “Cover-to-Cover” movement and “Tru-Aim” combat systems to PlayStation Home.
  • Two game modes at launch: Team Deathmatch pits two teams in a competition to rack up the most kills in a multiplayer session, while Scavengers places teams against one another in a fight to collect salvage and return to their base while avoiding enemy fire.
  • Freemium model: Default load-out for all players with premium weapon and armor upgrades that affect rate of fire, player speed, resistance, and more.
  • Additional maps, modes, functionality, and associated content planned for future expansions.

Trust no one because it’s not about what’s right — it’s about what’s left.

This is Bigyama’s first furniture collection modestly titled ‘The Bigyama Ultimate Furniture collection’. There are six different furniture sets each with a unique style. Everything from the Captain’s Collection, a Forthstar inspired furniture set with bold blues and a decadent feel, to the comfort and coziness of the Snug Collection. Check them all out in the video and if you can’t decide then there’s the Ultimate Bundle that includes them all.

This week in exclusive VIP nightclub x7, early-access items include a Suave Tuxedo for the men and Glamorous full look for the ladies—in individual mix and match parts, of course. Also this week there’s yet another fabulous bundle deal, only for members of x7.

In from Lockwood this week, Cucumber updates their bedroom range with a selection of comfortable, colorful Active Object beds this week – animations included! Gone are the days of jogging endlessly around the mall with no respite, only to return to your apartment and perch on the edge of a hard chair. Cucumber Active Object beds allow you to lie down alongside a friend and daydream the stresses of the day away. Furnish your apartment with one now, lay back and relax. These are available at a reduced price for owners of the original Cucumber beds.

Fans of VEEMEE will enjoy the new arcade bundle arriving this week. Head to the game store in the Mall to find this bundle comprising several of their popular arcade cabinet games.

Finally, the Community Theater gets an update this week with new videos from HomeCast, Hip Hop Gamer and more. Head to the theater on Wednesday and enjoy the show.

See you in Home!

This past week the PlayStation Digital Platforms Community team attended E3 down in Los Angeles. This was also this third year we built out a virtual E3 booth, literally matching schematics as tightly as possible to the real deal, and bringing the community the sort of experiences you would have if you were lucky enough to get entrance to the real expo.

7363199028_846ceae3bf_z.jpg7363200936_b654cb0dc6_z.jpg

The best part about the virtual E3 booth—no lines! Some games and experiences at the real E3 require waiting quite a while to get in.

We would like to share some pics from the real E3 booth, so you can take a further glimpse into the excitement that is E3. Due to popular demand, we are extending the virtual E3 booth one more week. So if you didn’t get a chance to check it out, you have a little more time. But once it’s gone, it’s gone for the year.

7177972775_1320a2bd12.jpg

We bumped into our buddy, writer and director of Platinum’d, Brandon Winfrey.

7363198660_bfe5634838_z.jpg
Teammate Paul Sullivan got to meet superbabe, er… supermodel Brooklyn Decker who visited us in the PSN area.

Aside from all the excitement, to understand E3 is to attend E3. In the industry, there is a camaraderie that forms over time, from within your own company, to friends who might work in others. It’s a relatively small industry, so at events like E3, it feels like a family reunion. There are so many people you know and love, all coming together to work hard (during the day) and play hard (at night). There are many celebrations over dinner and drinks, but it all comes back to the genuine friendliness this industry innately has. You see, this industry purely exists to bring joy and happiness to people’s lives. In that way, we get to make the world a better place—all while connecting gamers to each other to form communities over similar interests. Through all this, I am very proud to work for at PlayStation.

Enough gushy insider gossip—you want to know what’s coming this week in Home!

As mentioned above, due to popular demand, the virtual E3 booth will be extended one more week, so if you haven’t run through all Christina Lee’s quests, visited all the kiosks and collected all your rewards, do so quickly. If you haven’t picked up your limited edition Booth Babe and Beefcake outfits from Lockwood, gotten your free Warrior Starter Pack from playing the Mercia: Fractured Realms Demo in the virtual E3 booth or picked up your solid gold Mechjet, a golden Sodium Companion and Kiburi the White Lion do so ASAP. When the virtual E3 booth goes away this year, so do these limited-time exclusives.

Konami’s Gothic Cathedral is finally being released to the public. Pick it up in either personal space or clubhouse form, then deck it out the way any dark lord might. What does your inner goth tell you to do?

7177972213_5faf4faf7b_z.jpg

Granzella is releasing a large collection of elegant leotard outfits and bundles, over 20 in fact. If your inner ballerina needs to break out, you have many options in various colors and combinations to choose from.

Billabong’s virtual collection releases new laid back items, just in time for summer. Check out these new threads in the VEEMEE store.

7177972123_ba5c10bed9_z.jpg

Finally, the exclusive nightclub x7 gets some new early-access breakdancer and raver outfits. Pick them up and get the smoothest moves on the dancefloor. Also, there’s a new freebie and another exclusive super deal bundle.

Given that I’m from the majestic, apparently spacious-sky-ed nation of Amercia, I should probably be sleeping right now. Alas, however, I face a dilemma: I really want to play Home. As in, right now. It’s freshly available for a pithy $2.00/£1.39, and – between a frantic, senses-strangling trailer and a fantastic fictional Twitter account – it absolutely nails the nauseating air of mystery that makes it impossible to look away from great horror flicks – even though you really, really want to.

So then, what’s with all this MRI business? What happened to the main character’s significant other? My brain is sitting in the front row of my skull, eagerly awaiting answers. It’s incredibly painful. But I’m also kind of a giant wuss, and scary things make me turn lights on. So then, to sleep or not to sleep – Home is the question. While I deliberate, here’s this part-live-action (they’re all the rage) launch trailer.

I’ll admit to not having heard of 2D night terror Home until the recent release date announcement, but it’s nevertheless got the cockles of my skittish heart abuzz with fascination. Between paradoxically dingy and vibrant pixel art and an apparent focus on exploration, there’s a bit of a Lone-Survivor-ish vibe to it. Those comparisons, however, don’t seem to go far beyond chilled bones and sweat-drenched skin. Home describes itself as a player-driven murder mystery with a room that “changes – subtly, almost imperceptibly – to reflect your perspective. It’s a horror game unlike any other, and as you’ll discover, its truths are entirely subjective.” Which sounds creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky. Also, just cryptic enough to leave me wanting more. Come inside, make yourself comfortable, and let a trailer devour your soul after the break. Or maybe intrigue you at bit, at least.

Home, the pixel-art horror/adventure game that first caught our frightened little eyes last October will be available for the PC on June 1, in your choice of "Regular" and "Old-School Collector's" editions.

Home's Regular Edition rings up at $2.00 and entitles you to a DRM-free download of the game, whereas the Old-School Collector's Edition has been created specifically for "players who love classic packaging and think physical media is more than just a delivery method." At $20.00 (plus shipping and handling), the Collector's Edition includes a "classic-style" manual, "exclusive game-universe artifacts," a town map plus "mapping tools to help you find your way" and "maybe some other delicious secrets."

Pre-orders go live today, and everyone that pre-orders either version will receive a set of wallpapers as a bonus tchotchke. Take a look at the Collector's Edition and some shiny new screenshots in the gallery below, if you dare.

Two racers have returned to Project Velocity, forgotten heroes of this high-octane sport who clamor to regain their notoriety. Already it’s happening—these Legendary Racers are gaining a following of keen young sportsmen and women eager to follow in their death-defying footsteps by racing (and dressing) just like them.

Only the finest racers can expect to don the Legendary Pilot outfit, though. The Legendary Racers don’t let just anyone copy their style. If you want to dress like a winner, you have to be a winner. Reach level 40 to unlock the complete Legendary Pilot Outfit.

Very few Safaris give you the opportunity to get up close and personal with elephants, hippos, and gorillas in one trip — but that’s exactly what a trip to the Lockwood store can do for you today!

Tembo returns and this time he’s brought some friends along. Kubwa is an impressively huge gorilla. He’ll pound his chest and the ground to show his dominance, and when he thinks no one is watching, he has some rather unsavory habits… Kiboko is an unbelievably cute baby hippo who sometimes gets tired out playing all day. He’ll follow you around as much as his little legs can carry him, but when he gets too tired, he’ll plop down on the floor and yawn. Open up your home and your heart to some exotic wildlife!

Next, journey to The Great Edo as there are some new Feudal Lord clothing items to adorn the samurai in all of you.

Now available to the public are an assortment of fierce weaponry from stylized scythes to sword claws (eep!) to an over-sized shuriken. Head to Costumes and pick up these menacing new items.

Also the recently released Novus Prime 5.5 items from HellFire Games, the Obsidian Bladewalker Suit and Throwing Star and the Midas Reactive Defense System Bundles are available to the public.

The Community Theater gets an update this week. HomeCast gets blown away by some of the saltiest sea dogs from Cutthroats: Battle for Black Powder Cove and shares a few tricks for sailing the seven seas. Next up, Hip Hop Gamer snags an interview covering the upcoming The Amazing Spiderman game.

Konami is releasing a large new assortment for the club kids in all of us—the Raver Collection! Get ready to dance your booty off with clothing options ranging from mesmerizing animated visors to glow-in-the-dark baggy raver pants and everything in-between. Be sure to check them out in the 3D preview in the commerce points to see the full effect of these very cool items.

It's time once again for the PlayStation Network to be poked, prodded and generally fiddled around with by Sony's countless technicians and maintenance cyborgs. As per usual, 13 hours chock full of network rejiggering are scheduled to begin tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. EST, during which time the PSN Store, PlayStation Home, Account Management services and online play will be unavailable.

PlayStation websites hosted on PSN servers, like the Official PlayStation Blog, will also be offline during maintenance. The official PlayStation Twitter account, however, will continue to function properly, since it's on Twitter and everything. Updates regarding maintenance can be found there, though extended periods of downtime are usually situations where no news is good news.

PlayStation Home continues to be the, well, home of exclusive games, to the surprise of those of us who just remember it as a hangout for terrifying mannequins. Sony just announced three new Home-exclusive games, including one that is available now, and has pirates in it.

Cutthroats: Battle for Black Powder Cove is a "persistent and perpetual game of maritime combat" in which players fight as a captain or gunner of a pirate ship, blasting enemy ships and collecting the booty from their wreckage.

Coming later this spring, No Man's Land is a third-person shooter set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland ... in Home. Naturally, it's freemium, with the ability to buy weapon and armor upgrades. Mercia, due this summer, is a multiplayer fantasy RPG. You can read all about the new content on the PlayStation Blog, and then consider updating your avatar with a more recent version of your haircut.

Attn Home community! Today we’re announcing a series of awesome new games that are coming to PlayStation Home in the coming months – including the action-packed buccaneer brawler Cutthroats: Battle for Black Powder Cove, which is available for you to play right now! Use the PlayStation Home Navigator to travel to the Adventure District and get ready for the biggest multiplayer experience in the history of PlayStation Home!

Cutthroats: Battle for Black Powder Cove (coming March 28th, 2012)

This team-based game puts treasure-troving, ship-sinking scoundrels in a series of breathtaking battles for riches beyond your wildest imagination. In this free-to-play platform exclusive, six teams of up to four players each take to the high seas, blasting each other’s boats to smithereens in an ongoing sequence of seafaring skirmishes to increase XP and unlock exclusive content.

  • Play as your avatar and assume the role of captain or gunner in a persistent and perpetual game of maritime combat.
  • Gather booty from sunken ships or purchase gold coins from the in-game store and exchange for power-ups that increase speed, damage, and range.
  • Select from a variety of munitions to barrage your enemies, earning XP for every successful attack and unlocking unique rewards as you progress through the ranks.

Set to release in Spring 2012 is VEEMEE’s post-apocalyptic shooter No Man’s Land – arguably PlayStation Home’s most ambitious title yet, offering gamers the most advancing shooter experience the platform has ever seen. And coming this summer is PlayStation Home’s first multiplayer role-playing game, Mercia. Developed by Lockwood Publishing, Mercia transports players into a fantastical world filled with treacherous dungeons, magic spells, and a plethora of weapons and enemies (what’s more – Mercia continually streams content, leading to zero load times while playing!) Check ‘em out and let us know what you think in the comments section!

No Man’s Land (coming Spring 2012)

Hyper-violent, intensely gritty, and absolutely not for the faint-of-heart, No Man’s Land is a post-apocalyptic third-person shooter unlike any other game in the history of PlayStation Home.

  • Unique, action-packed game play in a dark, desperate third person shooter framework that introduces signature “Cover-to-Cover” movement and “Tru-Aim” combat systems to PlayStation Home.
  • Two game modes at launch: Team Deathmatch pits two teams in a competition to rack up the most kills in a multiplayer session; Scavengers places teams against one another in a fight to collect salvage and return to their base while avoiding enemy fire.
  • Freemium model: Default load-out for all players with premium weapon and armor upgrades that affect rate of fire, player speed, resistance, and more.
  • Additional maps, modes, functionality, and associated content planned for future expansions.

Enter the Old West Saloon and try your hand at these timeless games and unlock a ton of clothing and furniture rewards – from wearable burlap sacks (I LOL’d) to “Wanted Poster” picture frames (because nothing quite denotes social status like having a bounty on your head). Check it out!

Hoverboards, Two-Headed Snakes, and Yetis – Oh My! –This may very well be the wildest week in Home’s history as we release a wide variety of crazy, awesome, and downright crazy-awesome collectibles. Check out this week’s Virtual Item Showcase, wherein Magnus proves to the world that he’s completely and totally lost his mind (and I, for one, celebrate this momentous occasion…)

The Wardrobe Wars/E3 Sweepstakes – The final week of our Wardrobe Wars/E3 Sweepstakes begins this Wednesday. All you have to do to enter is play Wardrobe Wars, the new game the pits players against one another in an ongoing fashion battle and rewards winners one-of-a-kind virtual items. We’ll be randomly selecting one winner a week at between now and March 21st, 2012 and sending them (plus one friend) on a gamers’ ultimate adventure to E3 2012. The prize package includes everything you’ll need – roundtrip airfare, hotel, transportation to and from the event, E3 pass, and plenty of spending cash! Be sure to read the Official Rules HERE then gear up for the challenge going on now in PlayStation Home!

Enkomi the Minotaur – You may think you know the legend of the Minotaur’s story, but you do not: The one who once called himself a hero was really a betrayer. Powerful and cunning, Enkomi unlocked the secrets of his labyrinth prison and made his escape. Rising above his mistreatment, he has harnessed the beast, utilizing its brutish strength.

Become Enkomi the Minotaur and unleash the power of the bull by demonstrating his ground-pounding, supernatural strength. Available this Wednesday in the Lockwood Publishing store.

Granzella Fossil Digging & Wedding Ceremony – The Fossil Excavation game is releasing this Wednesday in Granzella’s popular Southern Island Retreat game space. The fossils are located in the rock wall, which can be reached by the scaffolding. Players must dig without breaking the scaffolding’s ropes. Excavate the fossils without falling and you will be rewarded handsomely. Fall and you’ll be the subject of ridicule amongst the entire Home community. No pressure.

Also releasing this week is Granzella’s Wedding Ceremony game. Look for the venue overlooking the sea on the edge of the Southern Island Hideaway’s cliffs. Here, players can choose to enter into Home-y matrimony. Take your vows and then take a bow as you and your sweety are awarded rings to signify your undying love. Doesn’t it just make you feel all warm and fuzzy?

The Tester 3 – Don’t forget to head to the Activity Board this Wednesday to take the newest Tester 3 Quest and unlock a special reward for watching the latest episode in the PlayStation Home Theater.

One more thing: Back by popular demand, we’ll be hosting the wildly-popular Disposable Film Fest again this year in PlayStation Home. Mark your calendars for March 22nd and stay tuned to this Blog for more details!
