If you never had the misfortune to play it, know that the PC port of Resident Evil 4 was one of Capcom's (and Ubisoft's) darkest moments. So shoddy was the coding that it turned one of the greatest games of all time into a poorly-optimised, bug-riddled joke.Read more...

Or, at least, like a PC game from 2007 should have look. Sadly the 2007 PC port of what’s widely considered Resident Evil’s finest hour was a half-hearted, shonky, perfunctory thing, and today’s announcement of an ‘Ultimate HD’ version should really be interpreted as an apology that’s seven years too late rather than a cause for celebration. Capcom’s new version promises a solid 60 frames per second, ‘a complete visual overhaul’ and the bestest graphics ever for a game originally released in 2005, and which has since been ported to every platform in the world ever and probably a few which don’t exist yet too. Have a look below. It looks decent enough for sure, but yeah, it ain’t hiding its 2007iness.(more…)

Intrepid modder DooMero has mashed together Resident Evil 4's "Mercenaries" mode with the original Doom, creating a hybrid game experience that expertly combines elements from the two games. You only need watch this video of the 4.0 version of the mod to understand.

Zen Studio's ballista, boulder and sheep flinging game, Castlestorm, is currently $4.99 (50 percent off) as part of Xbox Live's deals of the week. Included in this week's super serious savings are the Serious Sam series, also 75 percent off.

Next week's deals are also worth putting some milk money aside for. Capcom's Devil May Cry, DmC, Lost Planet 3, Resident Evil Revelations and Resident Evil 4 are 33-50 percent off. That means Resident Evil 4 (the can't-miss entry in the series) is only $10. What are ya buyin'?

Update: Well, looks like Castlestorm is only 50 percent off now. Hopefully you grabbed it earlier. Adjusted text.

#residentevil Resident Evil 4 was released as a GameCube exclusive. And when Capcom ported the game to the PlayStation 2, Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami is quoted as saying he would "cut [his] own head off". That infamous quote was probably a mistranslation. But there's a reason why Mikami was so antagonistic towards Sony. What's more, there's a reason why the game didn't end up first on the original Xbox, instead. More »

It seems like Resident Evil films come out more frequently than Resident Evil games these days, unless I’m ignorant of an Ada Wong visual novel spin-off series that’s only playable on digital watches. Capcom don’t seem concerned about matching the output of projected vomit though, at least not as far as PC ports are concerned, with Senior VP Christian Svensson stating on the company’s official forum that the Resident Evil 6 port will be taken seriously. “When they get treated as trivial, you end up with Resident Evil 4 PC”, he added. The full quote, explaining why no date for the release can be given yet, is below.

You know what the world needed? Another port of Resident Evil 4. Seriously though, up until now Android users have been left out in the plagas-infested cold when it comes to Leon and Ashley's romp through rural Spain, which is a pretty sad thought when you consider that RE4 is available on everything from the iPhone to the Zeebo.

There is good news for the ultra-specific Resident Evil enthusiast, however, provided that they live in Korea and have an LTE-enabled Android device by LG. Yes, RE4 is finally coming to Google's little robot, but only on LG's LTE U+ Market ecosystem, which happens to exist exclusively in Korea. The port, which is likely itself a port of the iOS version, could eventually make its way to other Android devices, similar to how Street Fighter IV HD's limited-exclusivity situation keeps it on LG devices until May. For now though, the title is only available in Korea for ₩5,000, or $4.41.

[Thanks, Waylan!]
