The Indie Royale bundles are certainly amongst the more hit and miss out there. But their latest is a definite hit, simply by containing Hexcells. Have I mentioned Hexcells before? One might argue it’s also worth purchasing for some of the other games in there, like PixelJunk Shooter, Gun Monkeys, Megabyte Punch, Ride ‘Em Low and Stronghold HD.

The latest Indie Royale bundle is out now, spotlighting the recently released PC version of Q Games' PixelJunk Shooter alongside a collection of Steam-redeemable indie highlights.

Indie Royale's Vapor Trail bundle includes PixelJunk Shooter, Size Five Games' deathmatch platformer Gun Monkeys, Reptile's beat-'em-up Megabyte Punch, Libredia's lowrider racing game Ride 'Em Low, Firefly Studios' medieval warfare sim Stronghold HD, and Glassmoon's logic puzzler Hexcells.

All games include keys redeemable at Steam and Desura except for Hexcells, which awaits approval at Steam Greenlight. The bundle is available for a buyer-chosen, beat-the-average price (currently just under $5), and a bonus game will be added to the collection during the campaign's final days.

What happens when you pour water over lava? You get steam. I think when Q-Games’ Pixeljunk Shooter came out for the PS3 in 2009, where the player manipulates the levels using molten rock, water, and a magnetic fluid that I’m going to call “Polly”, they were dropping a hint that it would eventually end-up on Steam. I told no-one of this supposition, but now I wish I had. The gloopy game of fluid dynamics is landing on the PC in November, and I would have looked amazing.(more…)

Q-Games' twin-stick action-adventure game PixelJunk Shooter is coming to Windows, Mac and Linux on November 11 via Steam and other digital download services.

Originally released as a PlayStation 3 exclusive in 2009, PixelJunk Shooter challenges players to rescue stranded crewmates in a hostile alien environment, leveraging foreign elements to solve puzzles along the way. Development partner Double Eleven previously ported Q-Games' tower defense title PixelJunk Monsters to PC platforms in August. The next series entry, PixelJunk Inc, will hit Steam later this year.

The PC version of PixelJunk Shooter will launch at $8.99.

If you've been hesitating to pull the trigger on any PSN purchases, that hesitation is now paying off. Sony just announced temporary discounts on a bunch of downloadable PSN games and Minis. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for $15, anyone? How about PixelJunk Shooter for $5?

While Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood may hold the cover spot of the next issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine, the July 2010 issue will also feature a "lovefest feature" on PixelJunk Shooter 2, Q-Games' not-yet-announced-but-very-real PSN sequel, according to a Tweet from EIC Gary Steinman.

Considering the numerous hints of a sequel, we're unsurprised that the game's existence is confirmed by an uneventful preview of a preview. (It seems Sony is intent on making this a trend.) If Sony shows this off at its E3 press conference, just try to act shocked, okay?

There's no doubt about it -- Q-Games head Dylan Cuthbert is very much interested in making more content for the latest in the PixelJunk series of games, PixelJunk Shooter. When he spoke recently to G4TV, Cuthbert said, "for PixelJunk Shooter we still have a ton of ideas on the drawing board and the engine has lots of potential we want to use before moving onto our next idea." He also teased the possibility of a full-on sequel, front-loading his last statement with, "normally sequels are just a re-hashing of the ideas in the original."

Given the PixelJunk's all-over-the-place history with DLC and re-releases and Encore versions, we poked Cuthbert for clarification. When we asked which of the aforementioned options we might see for PixelJunk Shooter, Cuthbert told us: "It hasn't been decided yet, as it depends on how much content we end up making. Whatever we end up making, though, it will be even better than the first installment with loads of new stuff. (Obviously I know what some of that stuff is, but I can't say -- all I can say is that fans will be extremely pleased.)" So, there you have it, folks! We're gonna see ... umm ... something else from Shooter.

Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert doesn't like you, cheap gamer. When quizzed by Develop, the PixelJunk creator described one thing that disappointed him most about the industry: gamers that refuse to open up their wallets. "Gamers complaining about our games being too expensive at 10 dollars. I'm not sure this is an industry problem, but it seems ridiculous that people complain about that price point." Cuthbert seems particularly sensitive about this issue, noting the rampant piracy of PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe on PSP earlier this year. The naysayers seem few and far apart, though. PixelJunk Shooter went on to become the second best-selling game on PSN in December. Some members of the Joystiq community have even suggested the game is worth "more than $10." Obviously, the studio is doing well enough with its PSN endeavors, as Cuthbert confirms that "more PixelJunk is definitely in the pipeline." With PixelJunk Dungeons and presumably PixelJunk Shooter Encore in the works, the indie studio clearly has a lot to work on at the moment.

Okay, okay, everyone, settle down. Listen, we know there's been a lot of unrest in this, our first ever "How to Get Into the Top 20 Globally in World 1 Stage 1 for PixelJunk Shooter" class. You've been here for three weeks now without ever actually talking Shooter strategies and your whispers are starting to become deafening. "Why does Mr. McElroy take such long naps?" we hear you ask, or, "Why did I have to play $3,000 for this?" On this, our graduation day, we have two messages for you. 1. Watch the video after the break and do exactly that. And 2. The magic was inside you the whole time. On the eve of the launch of Q-Games' latest super-stylish opus, PixelJunk Shooter, the studio's president, Dylan Cuthbert, decided to drop a new trailer for the title on PlayStation.Blog. We've posted it above -- as you can clearly see, it contains all of the requisite elements to fulfill the game's moniker: There's pixelated enemies, a great deal of of shooting, and plenty of junk to aim the aforementioned shooting at. The blog post also contained good news for thrifty fans of the franchise -- on Dec. 22, Q-Games will bundle PixelJunk Eden, Monsters and Racers together into a single $19.99 bundle. Sounds like a pretty sweet package if you're hoping to receive a new PS3 from ol' Saint Nick this holiday season.

Shooter follows the legacy of previous PixelJunk games, by adding a modern twist to old-school gameplay. This may come as a surprise to many of you, but Twitter is actually good for something other than the distribution of DLC codes and pictures starlets take of themselves in bikinis. Every once in a great while, it's good for a tiny sliver of news, such as when Q-Games' Dylan Cuthbert tweets that the company's next title, Pixeljunk Shooter, is slated to arrive in Japan this December. Cuthbert then tweeted a picture of himself in a bikini. Yeah, it got weird.
