You certainly can’t knock Zeno Clash and Rock of Ages developer ACE Team for a lack of ambition. Their previous titles’ massive scope and rampant, otherworldly weirdness demonstrated that in spades. So how do you follow that? Why, by jutting off in an entirely different direction, of course. Abyss Odyssey is a procedurally generated, Street Fighter and Super Smash Bros-inspired roguelike-like (but not quite) um… thing. ACE Team’s first set of words about it didn’t quite do it justice, which is why we’ve given them a couple thousand more to work with. Go below to get a better sense of how Abyss Odyssey will work, which utterly mad art style inspired this one (the grand ACE Team tradition), why they’re not doing Steam Early Access, and whether or not they think procedural generation will hurt their knack for insane world-building.

Bundle Stars' latest cheap game pack is the FPS Warriors 2 bundle, which features eight games for $3.98. The game bundle site says the FPS Warriors 2 collection saves players a whopping $80 on total standard price of the games, each available for PC via Steam.

The following eight shooters are included in the bundle: Nuclear Dawn, Hard Reset Extended Edition, Painkiller Overdose, Painkiller: Black Edition, AirBuccaneers, Zeno Clash 2, Zeno Clash, and Chaser. If the four-dollar price tag isn't convincing enough, players have plenty of time to buy in, as the bundle is good for the next 28 days. Bundle Stars is also currently selling the Brutal and Kingdoms bundles for the next few weeks.

Zeno Clash 2 has issued a free update today adding a pair of fresh challenge modes: Framerate and Coliseum.

Framerate mode pits players against waves of wireframe enemies who spawn based on your computer's performance and must be vanquished to maintain a consistent frame rate. Coliseum drops players into a battle against against 50 waves of increasingly difficult enemies, with no limits on the number of allies players can employ. In addition to the new modes, you'll notice Zeno Clash 2 also supports Steam Trading Cards now.

In what was most certainly an unplanned coincidence, all versions of Zeno Clash are on sale through Steam until August 1. You can grab the standard edition for $8 or the original game for $2.

Father-Mother lovers rejoice, Zeno Clash 2 is finally first-person punching its way to Xbox Live Arcade next week. After being available on PC since late April, the game will arrive on Microsoft's download platform on June 12, smack in the middle of E3.

We won't be playing Zeno Clash 2, but we'll still be first-person shoving our way through crowds to bring you the latest news.

Zeno Clash 2 is the sequel I always wished would come to fruition, but never dared hope for. I mean, if you look at the Call of Duties or even Grand Theft Autos of the world, there’s no real intrigue amongst all the announcement glitz and glamour. We already know roughly what we’re in for. But the original Zeno Clash opened this swirling, cream-colored Pandora’s Box of possibility, only to slam it shut – nearly taking our fingertips in the process – after a mere few hours. It was so weird and alien and gleefully unafraid to just do its own thing. But in the modern gaming world, that also often translates to “it’ll sell 12 copies and confuse even typically adventurous gamers and live on only in the hearts of its most fervent disciples.” Not usually the stuff sequels are made of. Against all odds, however, Zeno Clash did quite well for itself, and Zeno Clash 2 was born. But is the first-person brawling oddity all it’s thwacked (and biffed and zotted) up to be? Here’s wot I think.

Zeno Clash 2 is Now Available on Steam!

Ghat's story is far from over: Zeno Clash 2 picks up where the deliciously brazen first game left off. After 4 years of development, the sequel to the surreal first-person brawler brings more variety in combat and levels, and even more bizarre storytelling into the beguiling world of Zenozoik. Join forces with your former foe Rimat and battle against scores of angry denizens, preventing their dastardly machinations from being realized.

Zeno Clash 2 will most likely contain many remarkable sights but the latest video, showing six minutes of the game’s opening section, isn’t particularly potent. There’s mention of larger areas, more freedom of movement and side quests, but it looks more like the beginning of a Let’s Play series than a trailer. Maybe that makes it the polar opposite of a live action trailer, in which case I should be cheering it on. One conversation aside, it still seems to be a game about punching bizarre creatures in the snout/beak/nose/orifice/warface/palette-mouth/eye-trunk/dogbody/cataract/flesh-beard/scrotum-lid/chin-plume. Only five days until release.

Word from Atlus is that Zeno Clash 2 will arrive at the end of the month. The sequel to the world’s craziest fantasy face-punching game will be an open-world sort of thing, which is a fact that makes me quite happy. For more clarification on what it takes to bring me cheer, check out the trailer below, or this interview.(more…)

Zeno Clash 2, the sequel to Ace Team's bizarre blend of fantasy and pugilism, is ready to launch on April 30 for $20 through Steam. PSN and Xbox Live Arcade versions are also on the way, but Atlus has not confirmed their release dates.

Following the launch of the original Zeno Clash in 2009, Ace Team began work on the sequel and launched the Xbox Live Arcade port the following year. Zeno Clash 2 picks up where the first game left off, adding a co-op campaign for paired-up punchers. It's currently up for pre-order at 10 percent off on Steam.

This trailer, which features PC beta footage, shows the sequel to Zeno Clash is sticking hard and true (and painful-looking) to its first-person brawler roots. It also marks the opening of the game's new website. The game itself pummels Xbox Live, PSN, and Steam this spring.

#zenoclash Let's admit, the first Zeno Clash was fairly bonkers—but, by the looks of things, the sequel raises the bar on the insanity quite a bit. You get to suplex hairy dudes, punch bird people, and talk to some guy with a palette for a mouth. Just like in other first person beat-em-ups! But seriously, go watch the trailer, it's great. Zeno Clash 2 is set to finally arrive on PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and PCs via Steam in the spring of this year. After around four years of devlopment, Carlos Bordeu, co-founder of developer ACE Team. posted the window on the game's official forums. Bordeu said that Spring 2013 is as close as he can pin down a release date for the long-awaited sequel to 2009 brawler/shooter Zeno Clash.

If that gets you itching for a look at the game, ACE Team has you covered with six new screenshots to scrutinize.

There’s going to be Zeno Clash sequel in 2013! Trailer below, showing Father-Mother and Ghat leaping from a huge building, with Golem watching. Then there’s huge landscapes, a giant arm sticking out of the ground, and plenty of weird-looking cities. Ace Team explain that it’s going to be a much bigger deal this time: “The world of Zenozoik comes alive like never before, an open world waiting to be explored, rendered with breathtaking splendor. As Ghat, players can fully and freely explore every natural and architectural wonder his world has to offer.” There’s a website with absolutely no more detail over here, but we can hopefully expect more of the game’s melee combat, and plenty of inspiring strangeness.

Hooray for E3 announcements, eh readers?(more…)
