This is a slightly odd thing. Two Tribes, creators of Toki Tori and publisher/port creator for puzzle game EDGE, are “rebooting”. In this case, “rebooting” means that all the old staff were let go last year and the development company has been closed down. In its place, a new company has been started, which will operate under the same publisher owned by the same people.(more…)

Two Tribes' puzzle platformer Toki Tori is waddling its way to PS3 on December 17. The PS3 port, which is a recreation of the original game by Playlogic, will include PlayStation Move compatibility, a new exclusive game mode with 16 levels, updated graphics and stereoscopic 3D support.

Toki Tori has been quite successful for Two Tribes, the developer has announced in the press release past the break. Across its multitude of platforms, Toki Tori has been downloaded over 1.8 million times.

In Toki Tori, players guide a newly-hatched chick named Toki Tori. A mysterious force has abducted the eggs of Toki Tori's unborn siblings and whisked them away to a strange castle, so Toki Tori sets out to rescue them - just like any good big brother would.

It's slightly harder to recommend for those who've already played the WiiWare version, or those who were really hoping to make some levels themselves, but we would suggest that it's an enjoyable puzzle option with an attractive initial price and, even when that's expired, is still good value.

Toki Tori HD is a fun puzzle game that gives the yellow bird a chance to shine once again with a new audience that might not know the Wiiware release existed.

Toki Tori is the first of three Two Tribes classics to arrive on Wii U eShop. Next up will be 3D puzzler RUSH and retro platformer EDGE.

While the classic gameplay has remained intact, Toki Tori has been adapted to make use of the Wii U Gamepad, allowing for off-TV play and optional touch controls.

The gameplay in Toki Tori is a blend of two genres. While it looks like a platform game, it's a puzzle game at heart. To progress through the game, the player must pick up each egg in a level using a set number of tools. Players will have to look and plan ahead carefully while using items such as the Telewarp, Freeze-o-Matic and InstantRock™. Additional tools are gradually introduced as the player progresses through the game's 80+ levels covering five unique worlds.

Off-TV gameplay supported
Both touch screen and traditional controls
A wide variety of items and weapons
Over 80 levels spread over 5 worlds
For all ages - accessible and hard levels available

Toki Tori is a great and fun puzzle game that pushed the GBC to its limits. Colorful graphics, great music, big sprites and tight gameplay make this a must own for all puzzle fans. It took a while for the game to finally be released on the 3DS Virtual Console, but the wait was worth it.

Maybe you don't think you like Final Fantasy all that much. You should still try Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy, a suggestion made easier by the arrival of a demo on the 3DS eShop today. And while you're there, you can pick up Two Tribes' original Game Boy Color version of Toki Tori.

Toki Tori is a game many players missed the first time around, but you've now got a second chance to experience the original game on 3DS Virtual Console. With 40 increasingly challenging main stages and several optional hard stages, you're likely be entertained for a good amount of time before finally clearing it.

Last April, Valve launched a guerrilla marketing effort for Portal 2 and promotion on select indie titles. This week Valve remembers its ARG campaign with the Potato Sack Reunion sale, which knocks half off the price of 13 individual indie titles.

Games include Super Meat Boy, The Ball, Cogs, Amnesia: The Dark Descent and many more. You can either buy each individually for half-off, or grab the whole bundle for $20.

Two Tribes is working on a sequel to its adorable Game Boy Color (and later WiiWare, PC, iPhone, etc.) puzzle platformer, Toki Tori, ten years after the first game. Toki Tori 2 is scheduled to be released on PC and Mac in spring of 2012, with "subsequent releases on downloadable stores from Apple, Nintendo and more" to follow.

If you're interested in playing the game before that release window (and before it's done), you can write to tokitori2[at]twotribes.com for a chance to get one of 200 copies of the "Steam development version." If you don't make it into that group, you'll just have to follow the development blog or (appropriately) Twitter for your baby chick updates.
