By now, many of you have thrown a punch in The Fight: Lights Out, returned a serve in Sports Champions’ table tennis, or scored a headshot in MAG. After spending some time with PlayStation Move themselves, some of the industry’s top critics have seen first-hand the power and precision of the PlayStation Move platform. As a result, Move has been recognized with one of the industry’s most coveted awards. We’re very excited to share with you that Popular Science has awarded PlayStation Move with their 2010 Best of What’s New award in the home entertainment category, an accolade we’re extremely proud of.

The editors of Popular Science selected Move as the only video game technology worthy of the honor this year, calling it the “most immersive gaming controller” on the market and “the first motion-capture game system accurate enough to attract the hardcore gamers who consider the Wii and Microsoft Kinect to be kids’ stuff”.

4689422080_87a2468c8b_m.jpg

But that isn’t the only honor PlayStation Move has earned as of late. Recently, Move was also named a CES Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering award winner in the electronic gaming hardware category. In addition, Move was awarded the National Parenting Center Seal of Approval in the video game category. Each of these honors demonstrates Move’s ability to provide a versatile experience and also speaks to the variety of software already available.

When we set out to develop Move, we knew it had to offer something for everyone. It had to improve and build upon the core gaming experience that PlayStation fans have come to expect from their PS3 system, but it also had to open a new dimension of entertainment to those who may have never considered themselves gamers. If these awards are any indication, I’d say we’ve succeeded at what we set out to do. With games like The Fight: Lights Out, Heavy Rain, Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition, SingStar Dance and Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 11, to name a few out this year, and an already exciting lineup of 2011 games – including Killzone 3, SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALS and LittleBigPlanet 2 – we remain committed to offering the most immersive motion gaming experience available.

Thanks for all your support.

With TRON Legacy bringing the uncanny valley to theaters nationwide on December 17th in IMAX 3D and Disney Digital 3D, the pressure’s on TRON: Evolution to serve up some bleeding-edge hardware of its own. Luckily, TRON: Evolution on the PS3 is locked and loaded state-of-the-art stereoscopic 3D as well as PlayStation Move support. We spoke with Game Director Darren Hedges for the full skinny on TRON: Evolution and grabbed first video of PlayStation Move controls in action for the epic lightcycle sequences in the campaign.

5189916937_2026907420_m.jpg5189917015_a3f81f9283_m.jpg

Tech details aside, Hedges explains how TRON: Evolution’s persistent character customization across all modes means your progress and upgrades (roughly 60 in all) in the single-player campaign will transfer to online multiplayer, and vice-versa. Hedges also details how the TRON: Evolution team worked closely with the film team on TRON: Legacy, sharing assets, motion-capture data, and 3D techniques. Rey’s new video is fascinating, so give it a watch and let us know what you think in the comments.

Yesterday, I shared with you a sneak peek of our latest ad featuring Kevin Butler and the soon-to-be-released Gran Turismo 5. I’m back again today to give you the first look at an exciting Kevin Butler holiday double feature—two new ads which will begin airing tomorrow.

With Black Friday just one week away, we are preparing to kick off the start of the traditional holiday shopping season. Retail stores will fill to capacity with tech-hungry shoppers looking for the year’s best bargains. While some can navigate the mass of home entertainment options with ease, others may find it overwhelming. We know that many of you who read the PlayStation.Blog already understand the incredible value and unmatched features of PS3. But some consumers are still educating themselves on different gift options and not everyone fully understands what an all-in-one home entertainment powerhouse the PS3 is, much to Kevin’s dismay.

In addition to including one of the best Blu-ray players on the market, and boasting a deep and varied line-up of exclusive must-have titles, PS3 also provides free access to PSN. This means you and your entire family can dig into thousands of your favorite movies and TV shows, enjoy some of your favorite sports, and benefit from an extensive selection of downloadable games. As Kevin points out, combining a world class game system with one of the “sweetest” Blu-ray players around is nothing more than a match made in entertainment heaven.

While these ads showcase the incredible value of both PS3 and PSN, that’s only one piece of what makes the PS3 the perfect gift. In addition to a list of blockbuster titles for PS3 that includes Gran Turismo 5, UNCHARTED 2: Game of the Year Edition and The Sly Collection you will also be able to add PlayStation Move to your cart. PlayStation Move has already shipped more than 1 million units in North and Latin America alone and is primed to bring the family together in the living room this holiday season. With a large selection of PlayStation Move games, from gritty favorites like The Fight: Lights Out to family friendly titles such as EyePet, SingStar Dance and Start the Party!, PlayStation Move is the only motion control solution on the market that provides a precise and engaging experience with games that everyone on your holiday list will enjoy playing together.

Whether you’re a last minute shopper or a Black Friday deal fanatic, we hope PS3 and PlayStation Move are on your list of must-haves this holiday season!

Best,

Peter

As expected, Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves, the title outed by Australia's ratings board, refers to a new LittleBigPlanet spinoff. Sony officially revealed the game today as a multiplayer-only game requiring one PlayStation Move wand and up to three DualShock controllers.

One player uses the Move to clear a path -- by blasting crates, flicking switches and triggering platforms -- allowing up to three other players to make their way through the ten prehistoric-themed levels platforming-style. The game title pretty much sums this one up: Sackboy in a prehistoric landscape, using the Move.

PlayStation Plus members will get to see Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves as early as December 7, for free -- as will an unspecified number of "LBP supporters." The game will be released to the general PSN population one week later for $6. It'll also be included as a bonus on the LittleBigPlanet 2 disc, which will be available on January 18.

Auditorium is one of those perfect little games that you load up when you need a break from the stresses and toils of the real world, allowing you to relax while moving soothing sound particles through even more soothing squares. That's why we're a little trepidatious about the recently announced changes that will be incorporated in the game's PSN iteration: There are twice as many levels and musical selections (we're cool with that), PlayStation Move support (we're okay with that) and, troublingly enough, 3D display support.

We suppose if you've invested in a PlayStation Move and 3D television, these additions will be quite welcome, entirely justifying the game's $9.99 price tag when it drops November 23. However, we're not sure how soothing the experience will be when the sound particles are flying right at your face whoooooOOOOAAAAA

Taking to the US PlayStation blog, EA Bright Light producer Justin Manning revealed the imminent release date for his studio's next game release, Create: November 16 (aka: next Tuesday!). We've also confirmed that Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii iterations of the game will arrive on the same day next week. Given the game's user created level sharing ability via PSN and PlayStation Move functionality, perhaps Create can fill the hole left in your heart by the LittleBigPlanet 2 delay? M ... maybe?

We know that Sackboy dominates whole worlds in LittleBigPlanet, but he's always stayed in the present, content to steal our dreams in modern times. We worry that may be about to change though, as the Australian Classification Board has rated "Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves" for release. Siliconera shrewdly theorizes this will be a Move-centric release, thanks to the title and Media Molecule's development partner for the project, Supermassive (the house behind Start the Party and Tumble).

We're happy to see Sackboy branching out, but why would Media Molecule release yet another game when LittleBigPlanet 2 is already all of the games? What sense does that make?

Microsoft is waging the Great Motion Gaming Wars of Holiday 2010 with a half-billion-dollar war chest -- we're talking Jimmy, Ellen and Oprah money right there. Sony, on the other hand, has taken a more subtle approach: Enter the good ol' fashioned "stats" sheet.

When we got our first beta build of The Fight: Lights Out, we were ecstatic to find that Danny Trejo was in it, starring as your trainer, Duke. You may not know the name, but you’ve probably seen this bad-ass in movies like Con Air, Machete, and From Dusk Til Dawn (where, as a vampire bartender, he was awesomely impaled with a cue stick).

So when we met him recently, it was a treat to find out that he’s not just some paid celebrity shill; he could pick up a pair of PlayStation Move controllers and wipe the floor with dudes in The Fight: Lights Out. And as a guy with some boxing experience – in prison no less – Danny had some fight tips to share with us.

The Fight: Lights Out is available tomorrow, exclusively for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Move. If you’re a fan of Mr. Trejo, stay tuned to our Twitter feed. Danny signed some posters for you PlayStation fans, and we’ll be giving them out soon.

CTA Digital continues its domination of all PlayStation Move accessories with the release of the PlayStation Move Racing Wheel with stand. As you can see above, the wheel comes with a slot across the center to store a Move wand, thus making you feel as if you're using a plastic wheel rather than one, you know, made out of air.

We kid, actually -- the grip can instead hold a DualShock 3 (with SIXAXIS!) controller, so if you want to use it for tilt steering rather than motion control, you can do that as well. The wheel also detaches from the stand if you'd rather just hold it by itself. And we don't know how cheap it is yet, since there's no MSRP listed. For more information (and a chuckle at the expense of some poor commercial actors -- "COOLER!"), head after the break for a promotional video.

On November 9th you will finally have your opportunity to infiltrate the dark under belly of the city streets and fight your way through merciless opponents that will stop at nothing to keep you from being the top bare-knuckle boxer in The Fight: Lights Out.

Hi everyone – it’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since the PlayStation 2 launched and 11 years since I first started here at Sony Computer Entertainment America. Over the last decade, I’ve had the privilege of working on some of PlayStation’s latest and greatest – the EyeToy being one of my first big projects when I joined the company in 1999.

5141661415_7c9db726fe.jpg

The EyeToy USB camera was the first of its kind to translate your body movements into game controls, map your face onto in-game characters and more. It was created to allow you to physically interact with games, such as Antigrav, EyeToy Play and Kinetic, using your body. The unencumbered feeling of no wires and feeling free (instead of connected to your television) was very important, as was the simplicity of the controls. Everyone, even non-gamers, felt like they could just jump in and play, which was great. We learned a lot from our experience creating EyeToy, and it has definitely played a significant role in the development of PlayStation Move. We’ve pulled together a quick look back at the technology that started it all in the video below.

EyeToy helped us understand that while people definitely enjoy physical interaction and movement, they also want precise control and a simple, fast, reliable way to trigger actions. We also found that some experiences just feel more natural when holding a tool, or a “prop.” Seven years later, we’ve introduced PlayStation Move, which we think is the ideal combination of both spatial and action/button input. We here at PlayStation are always looking for ways to enhance the gamers’ experience and we’re looking forward to the new experiences PlayStation Move will enable over the next 10 years.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Hi Everyone! With all of the great new movies, music, TV shows, games and game demos being distributed over the PlayStation Network, it became clear that we needed to offer PlayStation 3’s with larger hard drives to store all of the media for our most active users. Back in August we announced the availability of a new 160GB PS3 system for $299.99 (MSRP) as well as a 320GB PS3 system bundled with a PlayStation Move motion controller, PlayStation Eye and copy of Sports Champions for $399.99 (MSRP). Many of you asked if you can buy the 320GB PS3 system on its own and we’re very excited to announce that we will begin shipping the standalone 320GB systems today to your local retailers.

The digital distribution trend is undeniably gaining momentum, and we here at PlayStation are committed to providing you with the hardware you need to support as much downloadable media as possible. The 320GB PS3 system, which will retail for $349.99, has the largest storage capacity of any next-gen console and will continue to provide the same high-quality gaming that PlayStation fans have come to expect. For only $50 more, you get twice the storage capacity of the 160GB system.

With popular downloadable PlayStation Move games like Tumble already out and PSN exclusives like echochrome ii, Beat Sketcher, PAIN, and Dead Nation on the horizon, there are more options for downloadable content now than ever. But advantages of more storage on your PS3 doesn’t stop with the great games; blockbuster movies and hit TV shows are available for download on PSN and viewable in HD on the only all-in-one gaming and entertainment console that boasts a Blu-ray player. Enjoy!

Two months after Konami announced that it had picked up the PS3 publishing rights for No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise in Europe -- with added PlayStation Move controls -- the publisher has revealed plans to release the same HD port in North America.

Heroes' Paradise
is a high-definition version of Grasshopper Manufacture's Wii assassinate-em-up No More Heroes, with a few extra modes (including a cutscene viewer and a "Rebout" boss rush mode), new visuals and, for the North American and European releases, the choice between DualShock-based or Move controls. In addition, an announcement on the PlayStation Blog teases "additional boss characters that were not available in the original episode" for the PS3 version.

No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise will be released for PS3 in 2011 -- no plans for an Xbox 360 release outside of Japan have been announced. Of course, you could always go get the spectacular Wii version, which has been out since 2008, but if you've waited this long for an HD version, you may as well hold out.

Recently we had the PlayStation Blog team into our office for an in-depth demo of how the PlayStation Move motion controller works with Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition. Check out the video below to see how these new controls work.

For those who don’t know, when the PlayStation Move controller became available, Capcom released a free update for Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition owners that implements new control options into the game which provide a more immersive and intuitive experience. Now you can use the PlayStation Move controller to aim with ease as you take down the hoards of Majini that have taken over Kijuju.

Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition is available in stores now and in addition to the entire Resident Evil 5 experience, the Gold Edition includes two new episodes, four new costumes, an online Versus Mode, and a newly reworked Mercenaries Reunion mode. Sony may not have expected a huge Day One for PlayStation Move, but it seems to have done OK for itself during Month One: The company just announced that the motion controller has shipped 1 million units in the Americas since it launched on Sept. 17. SCEA boss Jack Tretton told MSNBC he expects demand to exceed supply until next February, saying "We had to go back and increase production twice, we're absolutely maxed out right now."

While the number's certainly impressive, it's perhaps tempered a bit when you consider that (1) the Move sold 500,000 more units in Europe (where the PlayStation brand is admittedly stronger) in roughly the same amount of time and (2) today's announcement doesn't equate to a million Move-equipped households in the Americas. Many have likely picked up two or more Moves, making it difficult to say just how large the install base is for future Move games at the moment.

You'll find Sony's full release just after the break.

It’s scientific fact: Adding pirates to anything increases its fun factor exponentially. It holds true for Time Crisis: Razing Storm, the new PlayStation Move arcade shooter collection that packs more play modes on one Blu-ray Disc than most games manage in three sequels – in this case, DeadStorm Pirates and Time Crisis 4. We caught up with Localization Producer Ted Tsung to learn more about what Japanese gamers call “Big 3 Gun Shooting.”

Let’s start with the titular Razing Storm, which replicates Namco’s trigger-happy shooter in its full arcade glory. Using the PlayStation Move, you and a partner tear terrorists to tatters with SMGs and riot shields and blast massive robot bosses with rocket launchers. This PS3-exclusive edition adds a new off-the-rails Story campaign where you can freely move using an analog stick FPS-style, as well as throw grenades, swap weapons, and engage in mission objectives. You’ll also find a new eight-player online deathmatch mode, as well as the pass-and-play Sentry mini-game where you take turns sniping escaping prisoners.

5101897332_95f2e22267.jpg

That’s just Razing Storm. Also included is the separate arcade game DeadStorm Pirates, which ups the awesome significantly with its blistering, carnival-ride pacing and campy Pirates of the Caribbean pastiche. The variety is impressive: One minute you’re propelling cannonballs at menacing ghost ships, the next you’re blasting bats on island rapids or frantically steering your ship away from the grasping arms of the Kraken. DeadStorm Pirates strongly emphasizes two-player cooperative play, and both players are encouraged to concentrate fire on tough armored enemies. Other times you’ll spin the ship’s wheel, using circular motions of the PlayStation Move, to dodge wrecked ships and over-sized octopi.

5101303397_92f24c84fa.jpg

An arcade-perfect version of Time Crisis 4 (Read more here) is the icing on this thousand-layer cake. As with The Shoot, the games in Time Crisis: Razing Storm are compatible with the PlayStation Move Shooting Attachment, though for Razing Storm you’ll want to use a two-handed grip so you can hit the Move button to deploy your shield. GunCon 3 is also fully supported, as is DualShock 3 if you’re brave.

What do you think of Time Crisis: Razing Storm? Which mode is your favorite? What controller scheme are you using? Leave your comments and questions below!

Today is an exciting day for arcade shooter fans, because PlayStation Move’s new shooter, The Shoot, is now on store shelves across North America! Also available today is the PlayStation Move Shooting Attachment ($19.99) which lets you hold the motion controller like a pistol for a more immersive experience when playing games like The Shoot.

5094247377_20be39eb57.jpg

To get you amped up for the games release, we’re posting a demo of The Shoot later today on PSN. Check out the fast-paced shooting action today by sampling the Outlawed level before you buy the game.

For those of you who aren’t up to speed, The Shoot is a new game for PlayStation Move that lets you become the ultimate action movie hero. In order to earn that title, you’ll have to impress the director who’s cast you in his latest blockbuster.

Hit the studio lot and get ready to blast through elaborate sets featuring massively destructible environments. On location at the Haunted House Party, Outlawed, Robot Rebellion, Deep Perils and The Mob sets, you’ll be able to shoot out subway tiles, blast through warehouse windows and even trigger special effect explosions by firing at barrels of TNT. Then get down to serious business and take aim to annihilate sinister villains ranging from aliens to robots to zombies.

Accuracy is key in The Shoot if you want to keep the director happy. Use the PlayStation Move motion controller’s precision to take down your targets on cue, and you’ll earn special moves to help you pull off extreme action sequences. Stay sharp, because being a star on the set of The Shoot is a hazardous job. During your takes, you’ll have to hit your targets while dodging attacks from enemies as they throw knives, fire off rounds and launch missiles.
