Killzone fans! We know you are eager to join the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta and the team at Guerrilla Games has been hard at work finalizing the content. The good news is that the beta is looking better than ever and we can’t wait for you to try for yourself. Unfortunately, we’re here to report that we will have a slight delay on the beta availability. The open beta was originally set to begin on Wednesday, February 2nd, but will now be available on Thursday, February 3rd at 10:00 AM Pacific Standard Time.

To make it up to you, we will be giving away 60 Killzone 3 Limited Helghast Editions (not sold in stores) to players who participate in the Open Beta this weekend. The Limited Helghast Edition contains all the same elements as the retail version of the Helghast Edition, but features a Helghast Helmet replica with illuminated LED eyes, simulating Helghasts’ glowing mask. What makes this truly “Limited” is that we’ve only made 1000 of them. Keep your eyes on the PlayStation.Blog to see how else we’ll be giving these away.

So, log on and play the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta from Friday, February 4th through Sunday, February 6th. We will be randomly selecting 20 participants each day who are playing in the Open Beta and notify winners via the email address associated with each entrant’s PSN account between February 10th, 2011 and February 18th, 2011. Check out the full rules below. Good luck this weekend!

KILLZONE 3 MULTIPLAYER OPEN BETA SWEEPSTAKES OFFICIAL RULES

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE DOES NOT IMPROVE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING.

By participating in the Killzone® 3 Multiplayer Open Beta Sweepstakes (the “Promotion”), each entrant (or his or her parent or legal guardian if the entrant is under the age of majority in his or her state of residence) unconditionally accepts and agrees to comply with and abide by these Official Rules and the decisions of Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (“Sponsor”), which shall be final and binding in all respects. Sponsor is responsible for the collection and scoring of entries and the overall administration of the Promotion. Entrants should look solely to Sponsor with any questions, comments or problems related to the Promotion.

1. ELIGIBILITY: Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta Sweepstakes (the “Promotion”) is open only to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry. Employees of Sponsor and its parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, and related companies, and agencies (collectively, the “Promotion Entities”) and immediate families (defined as parents, children, siblings and spouse and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and those living in the same household, whether or not related, are not eligible to enter or win. Void in all U.S. territories and possessions and overseas military installations and where prohibited or restricted by law.

2. TIMING: The Promotion begins February 4, 2011 at 9:00AM Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) and ends on February 6, 2011 at 8:00PM PST (the “Promotion Period”).

3. HOW TO ENTER: Internet access, a PlayStation®Network account and a PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system is required to enter this Promotion. To create an account go to the PlayStation®Network menu from a PS3™ XMB and choose “Sign up for PlayStation®Network”. Create an account by entering the required information. Once an account has been created, Entrants should log on to the PlayStation®Network and go to the PlayStation Store, sign in with your PlayStation Network ID and download and play the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta to your PS3™ system. Each time you play the Killzone 3 Mulitplayer Open Beta you are automatically entered into the drawing.

4. ENTRY CONDITIONS: Entrants may play the Killzone 3 Mulitplayer Open Beta as many times as they like during the Promotion Period but may only win once. Multiple entrants are not permitted to share the same email address. If there is a dispute regarding registration, the authorized account holder of the email address used to register will be deemed to be the entrant. The “authorized account holder” is the natural person assigned to an email address by an internet access provider, online service provider or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted address. Each potential winner may be required to show proof of being the authorized account holder.

5. PRIZE: Twenty (20) winning Entrants will be selected each day for a total of 60 winning Entrants in a random drawing from among all eligible entries received for each day during the Promotion Period to each receive a copy of the Killzone 3 Limited Helghast Edition game. Entries are good only for the day of entry and will not carry over to any remaining days. Approximate retail value is (“ARV”) $199.99. Please allow 6-8 weeks for prize delivery. Taxes on prize, if any, are solely the responsibility of the winner. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if a prize is unavailable. Sponsor may disqualify a winner and select an alternate winner if any prize is returned undeliverable. Prizes are non-transferable. Sponsor need not substitute a prize based on the winner’s request.

6. ODDS OF WINNING: The odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received.

7. WINNER SELECTION:

7.1. Winner Notification: Drawings for all three days will be held at approximately 12:00P.M. (noon) PST on February 10, 2011. Prize fulfillment is based on availability. Sponsor will notify each winning Entrant via the email address given when they signed up for their PSN account. Each potential winning Entrant must respond to Sponsor’s notification within 7 days to claim their prize. If a potential winning Entrant does not respond within this time period, Sponsor may select an alternate winning Entrant from a daily pool of 20 back-up entries and notify those potential winning Entrants per the process described above. Prizes will only be awarded to those back-up Entrants who have responded to Sponsor’s notification within 7 days to claim their prize. All prizes not claimed from the back-up Entrants will not be awarded.

7.2. Required Documentation: The potential winning entrant must complete an Affidavit of Eligibility and Release (“Affidavit”) in accordance with the instructions listed in the notification correspondence. Sponsor must receive the completed Affidavit within 7 days of the date stated on the notification correspondence or Sponsor may, in its sole discretion, disqualify entrant. Any entrant who fails or refuses to sign and return the required documentation within the time period as specified by Sponsor will be disqualified. If a potential winning entrant is considered a minor in the legal jurisdiction in which the entrant resides, then that entrant’s parent or legal guardian will be required to execute and return the Affidavit. Non-compliance with these Official Rules or failure to return all required documentation by the stated deadline or Sponsor’s inability to contact an entrant (using the contact information provided in his or her registration) within a reasonable time period, as determined by Sponsor’s sole discretion may result in disqualification and the forfeiture of the prize.

8. PUBLICITY: Except where prohibited, participation in the Promotion constitutes entrant’s consent to Sponsor’s and its agent’s use of the entrant’s name, likeness, photograph, voice, opinions and hometown and state for promotional purposes in any media, worldwide, without further payment or compensation.

9. GENERAL CONDITIONS: Potential winning entrants are subject to Sponsor’s verification. Sponsor’s decisions are final and binding in all matters related to the Promotion. Potential winners must comply with the Official Rules, and receipt of prizes is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements. Sponsor is not responsible for technical, hardware or software failures, malfunctions, lost or unavailable network connections or failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions or unforeseen schedule changes that may limit an entrant’s ability to participate in the Promotion, even if caused by Sponsor’s negligence. Sponsor has the sole discretion to modify, cancel or suspend this Promotion should viruses, bugs, unauthorized human intervention or other causes beyond Sponsor’s control affect the administration, security or proper play of the Promotion or Sponsor otherwise becomes incapable of running the Promotion as planned. Sponsor is not responsible for changes to entrant’s contact information. Sponsor has the sole discretion to disqualify entrants who violate these Official Rules, tamper with the operation of the Promotion or engage in any conduct that is detrimental or unfair to Sponsor, the Promotion or any other entrant.

10. RELEASE: As a condition of participating in the Promotion, entrants release the Promotion Entities from liability, for loss, harm, damage, injury, cost or expense whatsoever including property damage, personal injury and death that may occur in connection with, preparation for, travel to, or participation in the Promotion, or possession, acceptance or use of prizes or participation in any Promotion-related activities and claims based on publicity rights, copyright or trademark infringement, defamation or invasion of privacy and merchandise delivery.

11. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: Sponsor and its respective affiliates, subsidiaries, parent corporations, advertising and promotional agencies, and all of their officers, directors, shareholders, employees, and agents are not responsible for: any incorrect or inaccurate entry information; human errors; technical malfunctions; failures, omissions, interruptions, deletions, or defects of any telephone network, computer online system, computer equipment, servers, providers, or software, including any injury or damage to entrant’s or any other person’s computer relating to participation or inability to participate in the Promotion; inability to access the Site or upload information or data; theft, tampering, destruction, or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries; data that is processed late or incorrectly or is incomplete or lost due to telephone, computer, or electronic malfunction or traffic congestion on telephone lines or the Internet or any website (including the Site) or for any other reason whatsoever; printing or other errors; or any combination thereof. Proof of uploading information or data or entering information at the Site is not considered proof of delivery or receipt. Illegible, duplicate and incomplete entries will be disqualified. False, fraudulent, or deceptive entries or acts shall render entrants ineligible and all associated entries will be void.

12. COLLECTION OF INFORMATION: Information collected in connection with the Promotion will be collected in accordance with Sponsor’s Privacy Policy, available at http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/PrivacyPolicy. By participating in the Promotion, each entrant agrees to the terms of Sponsor’s Privacy Policy.

13. GOVERNING LAW: All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules or the rights and obligations of entrants or Sponsor in connection with this Promotion shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the State of California or any other jurisdiction) that would cause the application of any other state’s laws. Each of the parties hereby submits to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the Federal and State Courts in San Mateo, California and waives any claim that is not subject personally to the jurisdiction of said courts or that any such suit or other proceeding is brought in an inconvenient forum or improper venue.

14. WINNER LIST: To obtain a winner list by mail, send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to “Killzone® 3 Multiplayer Open Beta Helghast Edition Sweepstakes”, Attn: SCEA-PSN, 919 E. Hillsdale Blvd., Foster City, CA 94404. Sponsor will send requested winner lists within 4-6 weeks after all prizes are awarded. Requests for the winner list must be received by April 15, 2011.

There's a massive amount of gameplay in the Killzone 3 dev diary posted below, so fans of the series should definitely scope it out. However, fans of not seeing dudes get their faces, necks, eyes and chests absolutely ruined by knives might want to go look for slightly friendlier videos.

Spanning more than 70 minutes of cutscene footage, the Killzone 3 single player campaign boasts a breathtaking storyline brought to life by some of Hollywood’s finest talents. In this sneak peek at the Killzone 3: Behind The Scenes featurette, which is part of the Killzone 3 Helghast Edition extras, Guerrilla reveals how real-life actors were transformed into virtual characters.

Using state-of-the-art motion capture techniques, the actors’ performances were captured using reflective tracking markers worn on the face and body. Many of the props and characters they were acting off only existed inside the computer, however.

Actor Ray Winstone (Admiral Orlock), who cut his teeth on full-body performance capture in the 2007 movie adaptation of Beowulf, was undaunted by that prospect. ”It’s like going back to school in a way,” he said. “You play the scene, and you start to get your imagination back, you know?”

Co-star Malcolm McDowell (Chairman Stahl), whose video game appearances stretch back to the early nineties, was quite satisfied with the technology. “When I’m 85, I can be doing video games, because they can put a young man’s face over mine,” he joked. “And as long as I don’t do a gravelly voice, I’ll be alright!”

The full Behind The Scenes featurette is an exclusive part of the Killzone 3 Helghast Edition extras. Pre-order your copy today!

Killzone 3. The Jetpacks. The Brutal Melee. The PlayStation Move. The 3D!

Ever wanted to get your hands on the action? Killzone 3 may not be out until 02.22.11, but we’re giving you a chance to hop into the “Icy Incursion” level that takes place halfway through the campaign.

  • February 15th is the day that Killzone 3’s Single Player demo hits the PlayStation Store.
  • PlayStation Plus members will be able to download the demo on February 8th!

Strap on that jetpack and take flight through the arctic environments of Helghan.

5390625482_875315bf19.jpg

There will be two separate downloads available from the PlayStation Store: one in 2D and one in 3D. Both versions will take place on the “Icy Incursion” level. Don’t worry – downloading the 3D version and playing it on your 2D TV won’t break anything … you’ll just see a message saying “No 3D TV detected.” The 2D version has splitscreen coop as well, a feature not available in the 3D demo.

All PlayStation Plus subscribers who have automatic downloads enabled will receive the 2D single player demo of Guerrilla Games’ upcoming blockbuster. As a reminder, PlayStation Plus subscribers can turn on the Automatic Download feature under “System Settings” on the XMB. This feature will update your PS3 with firmware updates, patches to recently played games and other select videos or game demos.

These demos will be PlayStation Move enabled, giving gamers a chance to experience Killzone 3 with the most immersive controls. When you get your hands on the demo, be sure to try out one of my favorite new mechanics, the Brutal Melee attacks! Get close to your enemy and hit the melee button (or thrust your PlayStation Move motion controller at the screen).

The aiming and movement mechanics have been tightened since Killzone 2. Play around with it and let us know what you think!

Stay tuned to the blog as we give out more details on the upcoming multiplayer Open Beta. While you wait, bone up with this full list of weapons to get a day-one edge.

If you thought the multiplayer arsenal was deadly in Killzone 2, wait till you see what we’ve included with Killzone 3’s online multiplayer mode!

Our philosophy when it comes to weapons in Killzone 3 is that every weapon has its own unique role in Killzone intense battlefields. A sniper rifle is a sniper rifle, a shotgun is a shotgun and a giant armored exoskeleton is a giant armored exoskeleton. Whether you prefer the close-up carnage of a LS13 shotgun blast to the face, the clean, calculated kill of a VC32 sniper rifle or the agility and stealth of the M66 Machine Pistol, Killzone 3’s armory has the right tool for any job.

5385111906_3141bc09ef_o.jpg

M4 Revolver

Faction: ISA
Class: Side arms
Sights: Iron sights
The standard side arm for ISA soldiers, the M4 is a slow but powerful fallback weapon in case the primary weapon runs out of ammunition.

5385111960_f835c9467a_o.jpg

StA-18 Pistol

Faction: Helghast/Stahl Arms
Class: Side arms
Sights: Iron sights
The Helghast counterpart of the M4, the StA-18 sacrifices some power and accuracy for a higher rate of fire.

5385111970_3031b81bd8_m.jpg

M66 Machine Pistol

Faction: ISA
Class: Side arms
Sights: Holographic reflex sight
The preferred sidearm of ISA Shadow Marshals, the M66 has a very high rate of fire but not much accuracy unless fired from a crouched position.

5384509005_a614f6fc0a_m.jpg

VC8 Shotgun Pistol

Faction: Helghast/Visari Corp.
Class: Side arms
Sights: Iron sights
The VC8 offers good stopping power at short range, but quickly becomes less accurate over larger distances.

5384508963_a83423d057_m.jpg

StA-2 Battle Pistol

Faction: Helghast/Stahl Arms
Class: Side arms
Sights: Iron sights
As a sidearm the StA-2 is only really useful in close quarters battle, where its tremendous power can fell most targets in a single blast.

5385111546_7d43051e4f_m.jpg

M82 Assault Rifle

Faction: ISA
Class: Rifles
Sights: Holographic reflex sight
The M82 is such a solid all-round assault rifle that its basic design has hardly changed over its years of service. Its low recoil, high fire rate, good range and holographic scope make this the workhorse of the ISA.

5385111572_aee693d6f0_m.jpg

M82SE Assault Rifle (Suppressed)

Faction: ISA
Class: Rifles
Sights: Holographic reflex sight
The suppressed version of the M82 fires in bursts to reduce recoil even further. The added suppressor prevents the player from showing up on enemy radar.

5384508663_85483ee5df_m.jpg

StA-52 Assault Rifle

Faction: Helghast/Stahl Arms
Class: Rifles
Sights: Iron sights
The StA-52 assault rifle is the mainstay of the Helghast army. Although it lacks the accuracy of its ISA counterpart, the M82, it makes up for this with a higher rate of fire and larger ammo drum size.

5385111612_e442dd13a0_m.jpg

StA-52SE Assault Rifle (Suppressed)

Faction: Helghast/Stahl Arms
Class: Rifles
Sights: Iron sights
The suppressed version of the StA-52 assault rifle fires in bursts to minimize recoil. Although it reduces the fire rate, the suppressor keeps the player from showing up on enemy radar when firing.

5384508655_2b12013e27_m.jpg

StA-14 Rifle

Faction: Helghast/Stahl Arms
Class: Rifles
Sights: Reflex sight
Fitted with a reflex sight, this powerful low-recoil rifle is the best suited for mid- to long-range engagements. While it lacks the extreme accuracy of the VC32, it has a much higher fire rate.

5384508693_dd58115c74_m.jpg

VC32 Sniper Rifle

Faction: Helghast/Visari Corp.
Class: Rifles
Sights: Illuminated 2x and 5x zoom telescopic sight
Two different zoom levels allow the VC32 sniper rifle to be used in mid-range and long-range combat. For optimal accuracy, the weapon should be fired from a crouched position.

5385111646_bba7de966f_m.jpg

M32 Combat Knife

Faction: ISA
Class: Close quarter weapons
The M32 is the last resort of close quarters combatants. Suitable for both stabbing and slicing, it makes for a brutal melee attack.

5385111680_9965c21940_m.jpg

LS13 Shotgun

Faction: ISA
Class: close quarter firearms
Sights: Reflex sight
The LS13 is a pump action shotgun with devastating close-range damage. It’s not very accurate, however, and loses its effectiveness at anything other than close range.

5384508729_5f69934805_m.jpg

StA-11 Submachine Gun

Faction: Helghast/Stahl Arms
Class: Close quarter firearms
Sights: Iron sights
The StA-11 SMG boasts low recoil and a high fire rate, and does tremendous damage at close range. It is ideally suited for ‘run & gun’ type tactics.

5384508721_3ebd39c044_m.jpg

StA-11SE Submachine Gun (Supressed)

Faction: Helghast/Stahl Arms
Class: Close quarter firearms
Sights: Iron sights
The suppressed StA-11 SMG keeps the player from showing up on enemy radar while firing. The state of the art suppression mechanism does not sacrifice fire rate or accuracy.

5385111696_cf7aa26302_m.jpg

LS57 Submachine Gun

Faction: ISA
Class: close quarter firearms
Based off the M82 design, the LS57 SMG suffers from more recoil than the StA-11, but makes up for this in range and firepower.

5384508781_539165ffee_m.jpg

M224-1A Light Machine Gun

Faction: ISA
Class: Machine guns
Sights: Iron sights
The M224-1A is an LMG with large magazine capacity and plenty of range. It’s an excellent suppressive weapon, but has a comparably low fire rate.

5385111710_028ddc552a_m.jpg

StA-3 Light Machine Gun

Faction: Helghast/Stahl Arms
Class: Machine guns
The StA-3 is an LMG with a sizeable ammo drum and a tremendous fire rate. It is unmatched in its suppressive capabilities, especially when fired from a crouched position.

5385111734_fd6e2dee8a_m.jpg

StA-62 Minigun

Faction: Helghast
Class: Machine guns
Originally intended for stationary defense, the immensely powerful StA-62 can be dismounted and carried around, although the weight of the weapon slows down the operator.

5385111748_629311ee02_m.jpg

VC9 Rocket Launcher

Faction: Helghast/Visari Corps
Class: Rocket launchers
The VC9 is ideal for taking down enemy vehicles and entrenchments. Although it lacks the homing capabilities of the W.A.S.P. Launcher, it has a relatively fast reload rate.

5384508807_aeac9e8f88_m.jpg

StA-X3 W.A.S.P. Launcher

Faction: Helghast
Class: Rocket launchers
Like the StA-62, the StA-X3 can be dismounted and carried. The weapon fires a volley of homing missiles in primary fire mode, and a targeted ‘bunker buster’ strike in alternate fire mode.

5385111816_903a919075_m.jpg

StA-X6 Jetpack

Faction: Helghast/Stahl Arms
Class: Vehicles
The StA-X6 comes equipped with a belt-fed submachine gun based on the StA-11 design. The range of the weapon has been upgraded to allow the wearer to fire from great heights.

5385111800_db5c23d257_m.jpg

LS209 Exoskeleton

Faction: ISA
Class: Vehicles
Slow and clunky but extremely well-armored, the ISA Exoskeleton is equipped with a heavy machine gun and a rocket launcher. It does have a weak spot that can affect the operator, however.

5385111772_d8b570eb0a_m.jpg

M194 Fragmentation Grenade

Faction: ISA
Class: Explosives
The M194 is a standard- issue fragmentation grenade with a digitally enhanced fuse igniter. It is ideal for sweeping rooms or clearing out enemy entrenchments.

5384508909_5af9ff9ed1_m.jpg

PXM199 Proximity Mine

Faction: Both
Class: Explosives
The proximity mine tracks the proximity of enemies and explodes when one enters within a two meter radius. Unless the target is extremely well-armored, this is usually enough to neutralize any enemy.

5384508895_e3b4799ee5_m.jpg

VC116 Sentry Turret

Faction: Helghast/ Visari Corp.
Class: Special
The VC116 is an automated defense turret that can be deployed by Helghast Engineers. It has excellent detection range, but only average firepower and accuracy.

5384508949_0ccaf562e7_m.jpg

LS116 Sentry Turret

Faction: ISA
Class: Special
The LS116 is the ISA equivalent of the VC116 Sentry Turret. It has an equal detection range, and matches its counterpart in firepower and accuracy as well.

Killzone 3 is bringing its particular brand of first-person shooting (the "killing in a zone" brand, we presume?) to retailers in North America and Europe on February 22 and 23, respectively. Unfortunately for those of you who reside in the zone of killing known as Europe, the upcoming "beta" gives North American players the same one-day lead, according to the regional arms of the PlayStation Blog family.

For 12 days beginning February 2 in North America, all PlayStation 3 owners will be able to download the "open beta" (read: demo) and treat themselves to stereoscopic 3D, Move support, and access to just one map, titled "Frozen Dam." Inside that one map, you'll at least be able to try out all three online multiplayer modes - 16-player "Guerrilla Warfare," 24-player "Warzone," and 16-player "Operations" - in addition to the bot-based, offline mode cleverly titled "Botzone." Because it's Killzone ... with bots.

But look on the bright, less-killy side, Europe: When North America's open beta access cuts off on February 14, you'll still have one more full day of jetpack-enabled fun. While you wait, take a look at the latest multiplayer video after the break, showing off killstreaks in the game.

Hello PlayStation Nation! Killzone 3 launch is now just 30 short days away, but for those of you who just can’t stand to wait any longer, we’ve got some good news: The Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta will be available for download on the PlayStation Network on Wednesday, February 2nd.

This Open Beta will be available for free to all North American PS3 users and will run from Feb 2nd-14th, giving you the perfect chance to get hands-on with Killzone 3′s brutal online warfare and try out the revamped precision controls. You will also have the option to play using the PlayStation Move and stereoscopic 3D.

The Open Beta will offers exclusive early access to the MP05 ‘Frozen Dam’ multiplayer level from Killzone 3, including all three online multiplayer modes: Guerrilla Warfare, Warzone and Operations, along with the offline multiplayer mode, Botzone.

“Frozen Dam” is a sprawling asymmetrical map set in an old dam facility, the playing field in MP05 has been carefully tailored to fit each of the multiplayer modes. Here are the four multiplayer modes included with the Open Beta:

Guerrilla Warfare (16 players)
Guerrilla Warfare is a standalone multiplayer mode similar to classic Team Deathmatch: You and your teammates must try to kill as many of the opposing team as you can before the timer runs out. In this mode, only the downstream monitor houses and repair bay are accessible, giving the map a very frantic pace.

Warzone (24 players)
If you’ve played Killzone 2, you may already be familiar with Warzone. It’s a round-based multiplayer campaign that consists of five randomly ordered mini-missions. In this mode, the power house and penstocks directly under the dam are accessible as well, so there’s more room to come up with different strategies and approaches to your goal.

Operations (16 players)
Operations is a new multiplayer campaign which aims to deliver a more cinematic, story-based gameplay experience, similar to that of Killzone 3′s single-player mode. It consists of a sequence of linear mini-missions, in which the ISA must try to secure the docks and destroy the dam, while the Helghast must try to protect the dam facility.

Botzone (one player and up to 15 bots)
Botzone is an offline multiplayer mode ideal for those looking to get to grips with the controls, the weapons or the map layout before going up against live players. Each of the aforementioned multiplayer modes can be played offline, against CPU-controlled opponents.

And of course, the open beta is just a taste of what you’ll get in Killzone 3′s multiplayer experience. For more details on Killzone 3′s multiplayer maps, check out the full briefing on Killzone.com.

We’ll unveil more details on the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta soon (along with some other surprises). So stay tuned!

Yo, readers: Sony heard you like shooting, so it put a shooter in your shooter so you can shoot while you're shooting. More specifically, the publisher has announced that both regular and Helghast Edition copies of Killzone 3 will include vouchers which give early access to the SOCOM 4 multiplayer beta.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the beta will arrive at the same time as Killzone 3's launch -- Zipper Interactive's Chris Roper explained on PlayStation Blog, "To find out when the SOCOM 4 multiplayer beta begins, be sure to check back at SOCOM.com once you pick up your copy of Killzone 3, hitting shelves on February 22nd." Perfect; so we'll have some time to get really used to Killzone 3's control scheme before switching over to SOCOM 4's presumably wildly different control scheme. We anticipate that we'll be eating quite a few of our own accidentally-thrown frag grenades.

The "3" in "Killzone 3" might as well stand for the quantity of cinematics in Guerilla's latest shooter -- three times the amount employed by Killzone 2. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) said in its bestowing of an "18" (mature) rating on the game that its cutscenes total 70 minutes. Its predecesor, by comparison, contained 25 minutes worth of story sequences, according to the BBFC.

Let's see: We know that characters voiced by Malcolm McDowell and Ray Winstone will be chewing up the scenery for a good chunk of that hour and 10 minutes; the rest will therefore be composed of shouting space marines and other guys who are also shouting but have red "eyes." Someone get Michael Bay on the phone!

You may remember last year when we first introduced the 7-Eleven/God of War III program at 7-Eleven stores around the U.S. We received a great response, and we’re back today with an exciting update for you. As I’m sure some of you may have seen, Slurpee has teamed up once again with PlayStation to give the Slurpee treatment to two of this year’s most anticipated titles: LittleBigPlanet 2 and Killzone 3.

So, we just found out that Killzone 3 has a story. How that's going to work without ruining all of the senseless shooting is beyond us, but at least it sounds interesting. Plus, Malcolm McDowell and Ray Winstone are going to voice two Helghast leaders vying for power. We hope you can shoot them.
