Combat Wings: The Great Battles of WWII Message Board

City Interactive announced Dogfight 1942 this morning, bringing arcade-style aerial combat wings to XBLA, PSN and Steam later this year. The publisher plans to release a demo of the game prior to takeoff.

The game is the digital version of Combat Wings: The Great Battles of World War II, which was formerly intended to be a retail product. The name change must have been done recently, since just a few weeks ago the XBLA marketplace leaked the game with a different title.

The Xbox Marketplace currently has a placeholder for Combat Wings, but there is some curiosity over the listing. XBLAFans first took note of the addition, but it's unclear if this XBLA game is a spin-off of the formerly retail product, Combat Wings: The Great Battles of World War II, or a downloadable replacement after the game missed its March launch.

City Interactive recently stated on its Facebook wall that the retail game had not been canceled, but was going digital instead. We were able to get in contact with the US representatives for the Polish publisher, but they needed to check with base camp before providing further clarification. We'll let you know as soon as we hear more.
