I was waiting for a XL bundle, but now I'm not sure there's a point to having both a Wii U and a 3DS. Similar games will be on both.

I'm sure about everything.

3rd August, 2012 – Things are really heating up this summer as Mario Kart 7 on Nintendo 3DS fever looks set to sweep the Nation. Nintendo is on a mission to launch Britain’s biggest family gaming tournament as they search to find Britain’s Fastest Family with Mario Kart 7, the fun, family racing game. The regional heats kick off this weekend!

Whoever is crowned Britain’s Fastest Family will become the proud owners of a stunning new Honda Jazz Si* – not to mention a limited edition Mario Kart 7 trophy and a host of other incredible prizes. With all this to race for it is time to get practicing!

The Mario Kart 7 Britain’s Fastest Family Tournament is running across England, Scotland and Wales – offering all Mario Kart 7 fans the opportunity to compete to get the fastest race times. Regional heats will take place at thirty selected HMV store games departments during August, including in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff and Glasgow (* see full list below), but only the fastest from each regional will make the cut and gain a seat at the grand finale in October to be in with a chance to claim the car, title, trophy and incredible prizes.

HMV Head of Technology & Games, Ewan Pinder, comments: “The power of games can best be seen when you bring them to life and create some retail theatre around them in your stores so that customers can see and experience just how wonderful they are. So we’re really excited to be partnering with Nintendo to showcase Mario Kart 7 as part of their Britain’s Fastest Family Tournament.”

Nintendo UK events and partnerships manager, Natasha Chatur, added: “We are really excited to be going on the road with our biggest family gaming tournament this summer. The Mario Kart games are loved by fans across all generations and it is fantastic to see families come together to compete to become Britain’s Fastest Family. We look forward to working with HMV to bring the Mario Kart franchise to life this summer and offer our fans up and down the country a chance to engage and compete as a family.”

Family ties will be tested to the max as the competition is to be made up exclusively of family teams. Young and old family racers alike will join forces to see off the intense competition via a mix of blistering speed and ruthless strategy. Expect no-holds-barred racing as Mario Kart 7 offers the ability to glide over the track as well as speed on the sea floor as you race underwater, all in glorious 3D.

Comedian and huge Mario Kart fan, Rufus Hound has created exclusive videos to help everybody get ready for Mario Kart 7 Britain’s Fastest Family Tournament ahead of the regional heats coming to your town. Rufus’ top tips on how to perfect your racing technique can be found here www.nintendo.co.uk/britainsfastestfamily or accessed via the Nintendo 3DS YouTube channel

You may want to redeem those coins you've accrued through Club Nintendo, because the reward values are changing as of July 1. Completing registration surveys for the Nintendo DSi or Nintendo DSi XL will yield only 100 coins, as opposed to the previously established 160 coins.

Software rewards are also getting a shake-up, though only select titles will see a decrease. Completing registration surveys for some 3D Classics and other downloadable titles will grant fewer coins; however, a lot of first-party 3DS games like Mario Kart 7 and some third-party ones, such as Resident Evil Revelations, are seeing increases. Wii and DS/DSi games are sadly seeing a reduction pretty much across the board. Better put in your Animal Crossing: City Folk code before time runs out!

Just incase you wanted to know the official details...

Mario Kart 7
Update Ver. 1.1

This is an update for the Mario Kart 7 game. This download does not contain the full version of the title. In order to use this update, you must have the full version of Mario Kart 7, which is sold separately.

Downloading this update will resolve shortcut exploits in the following online multiplayer mode courses:
- Wuhu Loop
- Maka Wuhu
- Bowser Castle 1

Starting 5/16/2012, this update will be required for online multiplayer mode. You can still play single-player or local multiplayer without installing the update.

Once the download is complete, the update will be installed automatically. The update will be visible under System Settings > Data Management > Nintendo 3DS > Add-On Content. There will be no gift icon displayed on the HOME Menu after the download is complete. When Mario Kart 7 is launched, "Ver. 1.1" will appear above the multiplayer icon if the update was successful. Deleting the update will require you to download it again to play multiplayer online.

Thanks to AmoredFrog for the heads up!

#review We're a little late reviewing Hori's official Mario Kart 7 Wheel peripheral, but I'm somewhat glad we are, thanks to some of the non-racing games I played with it on a whim. If this was just a piece of plastic meant for one game, the wheel is a $13 novelty at best, a luxury at worst, and not something where any recommendation really means much. Playing other games, however, shows the wheel has more value than that. More »

No longer will exotic StreetPasses be the sole reason for you to loiter around the airport. In between the acquisition of traveling Miis, you can now pass the time with some free Wi-Fi.

Similar to its deal in North America, Boingo has set up free Wi-Fi hotspots that will allow 3DS users to automatically connect when in range at London Heathrow, Southampton, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Gatwick and Stansted airports ... unless you plan on checking out some PDF files or watching a Flash cartoon online, that is. We don't know about you guys but that's, like, 90 percent of what we do on the internet over here in America.

The other ten percent of the time? Google image searches of Atsushi Inaba, of course. Best hair in the biz!

The top two spots in Japan's 2011 list of best-selling games are taken by a pair of Nintendo 3DS games: Mario Kart 7, with more than 1.6 million sold, and Super Mario 3D Land with more than 1.08 million sold. In third is Capcom's Monster Hunter Tri-G for 3DS, followed by 27 more titles for 3DS, DS PSP, Wii and PS3. These include From Software's Dark Souls and Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIII-2.

Part of the Nintendo Daily review:

The graphics in MK7 are great. The game runs at a smooth frame rate and never lags, not even in online multiplayer. The characters aren’t as detailed as the models in Super Mario 3D Land, but they look as good, if not a little better, than the ones in Mario Kart Wii. The tracks themselves look the best. Driving through the mushroom kingdom in 3D is breathtaking; with leaves, star dust, and snow particles drifting right out at you as you play.
