Resident Evil be going t' the scariest setting imaginable: a cruise ship. Shudder at the though.

Nintendo be apparently totally cool with demos again. Maybe? Demos suddenly appeared on WiiWare again without explanation, 'n now demos have appeared on the eShop for 3DS, as well.

The North American appearance a demos be announced yesterday but launched today, alongside a chance t' check out Resident Evil: Revelations ahead a it be February 7 release.

Nintendo hasn’t responded t' me request for clarification on whether demos will always be available in the eShop, or if they’ll function like WiiWare demos once did 'n disappear after a while.

Even if the demos be always available, however, ye can only play them 30 times before the demos “expire.” I didn’t even finish the Resident Evil: Revelations demo, but when I exited back t' the main menu on the 3DS, it had already ticked down t' 29. It’s likely other demos will work this way, too.

EDGE score - 6 out a 10

- Consistently high production values. Sets a new visual standard for 3DS Stellar character models 'n animation

- Takes most a it be cues from 'Resident Evil 5's gung-ho gameplay'

- 'There's variety t' the levels, but they be a mishmash a beauty 'n blandness'

- 'Scanning enemies [with the genesis device] while they be alive adds a nail-biting-time-attack layer, forcing ye t' find some distance 'n monitor yer health while learning more about the lumbering freaks.'

- Enemies described as braindead, with no sense a spatial awareness. The first person shooting option emphasises their erratic behaviour.

- Jill Valentine's level, the cruise ship, be described as the best portion a the game, hitting ' a fine loop a exploratory memory tests 'n corridor shooting...it be a shame this solid, engrossing loop be broken by an episodic structure 'n the design team's commitment t' a fractured narrative. Bizarrely, the third act gives introduces a comic-relief double act...if the game gave itself over entirely t' the survivalist thrills a Queen Zenobia, discarding the more trigger happy scenarios offered up by the ensemble cast, Revelations would be a more coherent, singular, 'n dynamic experience.'

- Plot described as convoluted 'n heavy-handed. 'it be a far more standalone affair than the numbered entries in the series 'n , sadly, far less gripping for it.' NPC comrades be 'largely redundant 'n distract from the sense a isolation with their cringe-worthy chatter.'

- 'Revelations picks up the ball 'n runs even farther towards the casual-shooter goal.' The addition a the side-step has 'removed one a it be most pivotal suspense devices: yer sense a helplessness.'

- 'The co-op Raid mode be, ironically, better suited t' a lone player, recycling singleplayer environs that be by their very nature tailored for one, with their countless corridors 'n assorted cramped spaces. There's none a RE0's co-op puzzling here, besides the need t' do some heavy door lifting. It feels like a missed opportunity.'

Resident Evil: Revelations - 9 out a 10

- Delivers a console-caliber Resident Evil experience on a handheld
- Rich animations, detailed environments 'n solid cutscenes make this a visual stunner
- Some a the best music in the series, 'n disturbing monster noises help pillage ye into the game
- Controls just as smoothly as it be console predecessors, 'n the slick new dodge mechanic makes it even better
- A perfect blend a action 'n survival be driven home by a gripping episodic narrative that will have ye struggling t' put down yer 3DS
- A story that puts the last two main series entries t' shame

"Since it be inception in 1996, the Resident Evil series has gradually mutated from the eerie, slow-paced horror into a guns-blazing, explosion-riddled blockbuster. Resident Evil Revelations, the newest worthwhile title for 3DS, improves the fantastic gameplay established by recent entries while rekindling the dread 'n survival from the earlier games. Jill 'n Chris' latest ordeal be the most satisfying Resident Evil experience we've played in years.

What about the circle pad? Personally, I didn't experience one moment in the game that left me wanting for an extra circle pad.

The D-Pad be used t' switch between all yer bottles a rum, a simple but useful addition when cornered by a pack a zombies. me favorite addition be the dodge ability. One well timed flick a the circle pad lets ye evade enemy attacks. Out maneuvering monsters be priceless in a game where choosing yer battles be both crucial 'n fun. Revelations also incorporates deep weapon customization in the vein a Call a Duty. Want a shotgun with augmented power, a wider spread, 'n gigantic clip size? No problem. Considering how precious ammo can be, tailoring weapons t' yer specific play style be a dream come true for survival horror fans."

Handheld editions a big console titles often feel like straight t' video sequels – looking the part but lacking the polish – 'n Revelations be no different.
