Nintendo has revealed new details about the storyline and single-player game play in Kid Icarus™: Uprising, which will launch exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS™ system on March 23. More than 25 years after the launch of the original Kid Icarus game for NES™, Kid Icarus: Uprising brings the action and adventure of this beloved series to new heights.

Introduction: The game's story begins with the return of the dark goddess Medusa and her Underworld Army. With the help of Palutena, goddess of light and guardian of the human race, the heroic angel Pit must combat the forces of darkness as he battles Medusa and her minions by air and by land.

Fiend's Cauldron: The Fiend's Cauldron is an incredible new system that allows players to customize their play experience by adjusting the intensity level. Intensity ranges from 0.0 – 9.0 for each individual Chapter. As the intensity increases, players will be able to earn more Hearts and more powerful weapon drops from defeated enemies. Hearts also can be used to purchase new weapons. The standard intensity setting is 2.0, but players can precisely adjust it by increments of 0.1. In order to increase the intensity, players must bet by placing an increasing number of Hearts into the Fiend's Cauldron. If the player is defeated during the Chapter, some Hearts will be lost and the intensity will be lowered.

Weapons: A wide variety of collectible weapons offers an extraordinary amount of replay value. With nine different categories of weapons, ranging from Bows to Claws, players can learn the unique characteristics of each weapon and determine which is best suited for each battle and their style of play.

Vehicles: During certain parts of his adventure, Pit will have access to special vehicles such as the Exo Tank. Pit can use the tank's powerful drift ability to boost over jumps or defeat enemies with the tank's ramming horn.

Stand: Kid Icarus: Uprising uses a control scheme designed to fit the game's unique blend of flight, shooting and melee combat, and offers tremendous precision and depth for dedicated players. The left hand uses the Circle Pad while the right hand uses the stylus. Every copy of the game will come with a free stand that holds the Nintendo 3DS at an angle above any flat surface, providing players with a new kind of gaming experience.

Circle Pad Pro: Kid Icarus: Uprising is compatible with the Circle Pad Pro accessory, offering an alternate control scheme for left-handed players. With the Circle Pad Pro, players hold the stylus in their left hand and use the Circle Pad with their right hand.
Additionally, consumers who pre-order at select retailers will receive a bonus download code for the 3D Classics: Kid Icarus™ game, a re-mastered 3D version of the NES original. The download code will be delivered with the purchase of Kid Icarus: Uprising. A deposit may be required for pre-order. Kid Icarus: Uprising will carry a suggested retail price of $39.99 in the United States.

More details about Kid Icarus: Uprising will be revealed prior to its March 23 launch. For more information, please visit http://kidicarusuprising.nintendo.com.

#kidicarus I...just...you know...sigh. Whatever. Stuff like this won't stop anyone from buying Kid Icarus on 3DS. But stuff like this does make me wonder who the hell is getting paid to make pointless decisions like this. More »

We've said that Kid Icarus Uprising hurt to play from the first time we ever got our hands on it, and Nintendo apparently agrees because they are releasing a stand to rest your 3DS on while you play...

Take Aim at a Timeless Adventure
Some 25 years after the original Kid Icarus™ game for NES™ captured the hearts and imaginations of gamers worldwide, Kid Icarus: Uprising brings the action and adventure of this beloved series to new heights – and new visual dimensions – on the Nintendo 3DS™ system. The dark goddess Medusa and her Underworld Army have returned, and they’ve got their sights set on the heroic angel Pit. With the aid of Palutena, goddess of light and guardian of the human race, Pit must fend off this malevolent threat. The richly immersive graphics of the Nintendo 3DS system offer incredible depth as Pit battles enemies by air and by land.

FEATURES:

Designed by Masashiro Sakurai – creator of Kirby™ and Super Smash Bros.™ – Kid Icarus: Uprising is an epic, action-packed odyssey that unfolds with stunning 3D visuals. The game also includes fully-voiced levels and an amazing soundtrack.

Each Chapter delivers nonstop action and is broken up into two sections: Air Battle and Land Battle. In Air Battle the action unfolds like a dynamic guided shooter. When Pit is facing enemies in Land Battle, the game play handles more like a third-person shooter.

Collect different weapons and learn the unique characteristics of each weapon type as you determine which weapon is best suited for each battle.

Experience an innovative take on multiplayer battles in Light vs. Dark, as two teams battle on land whittling away at the other team’s health meter each time a team member is defeated. The team battle then changes to a man-hunt once one team’s meter is emptied. The opposing team must target the other team’s lone angel to win the match.

The game includes AR Card compatibility. Using the built-in 3D camera on the Nintendo 3DS system, the game recognizes countless specially designed AR Cards, with animated game characters popping up in 3D on the game screen and even battling each other when two cards face off.

The game’s simple, intuitive play control has players hold the system in their left hand, while the right hand uses the stylus on the touch screen for targeting. The controls are simple enough to be grasped quickly, but offer layers of depth and strategy for advanced maneuvers.

Kid Icarus: Uprising was one of the first games announced for 3DS, and soon it'll finally be here.

Left-handed players can now look forward to playing Kid Icarus: Uprising properly, as The Official Nintendo Magazine UK reports the game will leverage Circle Pad Pro to aid the left-handed.

Circle Pad Pro add-on hasn’t launched outside of Japan yet, but the general use for the accessory, which gives 3DS two analog sticks, has been to more organically map camera or aiming controls.

Nintendo had not shown much interest in throwing its own weight behind Circle Pad Pro, suggesting it was a bone thrown towards third-parties. That Circle Pad Pro won’t be sold anywhere but Nintendo.com and GameStop lends more credence to the theory.

Kid Icarus: Uprising director Masahiro Sakurai claims he didn’t know about Circle Pad Pro until its announcement, which is why its use is limited. Even with more time, that might not have changed.

“[That] would end up being just the same as controls on other platforms and I think the quick aiming possible with the touch panel suits the game best,” said Sakurai.

Circle Pad Pro launches over here on February 7, aka my birthday, and Kid Icarus: Uprising hits March 23.

#nintendo Nintendo's Circle Pad Pro attachment for the 3DS seemed, when it was first revealed, to be something of a panic move, made in response to the handheld's then-poor sales and the positive reception received by the competing PlayStation Vita (much of which centred around its two wonderful thumbsticks). Flip Industries has bridged the gap between Kid Icarus' upcoming 3DS sequel and its classic 8-bit charm with Super Kid Icarus, a 16-bit remake of the title originally released on ye olde NES.

This Kid Icarus would have blown minds on the SNES, but now it's pretty, fun (pretty fun) and free to play in your browser. Flip Industries has also added cheats to make the more difficult areas less frustrating -- unless you're a purist or you enjoy a challenge.

#kidicarus Now that you know when you'll be able to get the upcoming Kid Icarus game, you might want to re-acquaint yourself with how Pit's latest adventure is going to look. This new trailer shows off aerial and ground combat, a few new weapons and a boss battle or two. And what certainly looks like the evil doppelganger version of series hero Pit—previously seen in Super Smash Bros. Brawl—makes an appearance in the final moments of this trailer. You'll be able to get your hands on Kid Icarus: Uprising on March 23rd. More »

The Japanese Nintendo site for Kid Icarus: Uprising has updated its weapons section. If you can read it, help yourself, otherwise, click over to check out some art and teensy screens of the arsenal. One of my faves has to be the one pictured above, which translates to something like 'huge black tower'. I'd consider using that as a ban hammer anyday.

Thanks for the tip, Shadzter!
