Citing Kickstarter as a "harsh mistress," Pixelbionic has cancelled their pitch for MotorGun, their tune-up to the sparsely populated car-combat genre.

Pixelbionic pulled in $63,120 of the requested $650,000 within the first eight days of MotorGun's pitch. Twisted Metal Game Director David Jaffe joined developers that worked on Interstate 76, Interstate 82 and Battlezone to serve as MotorGun's Creative Director.

MotorGun's initial premise was a post-apocalyptic shootout between three visually distinct factions. It focused on welding car customization, team-focused multiplayer, and community features onto the established gameplay of the car-combat genre.

Pixelbionic has asked fans to "help shape the next phase of this wild adventure" on their forums while they "reformulate" the project.

To celebrate the one year anniversary of Twisted Metal on the PS3, the entire series is discounted on PSN for the next week. It all starts with the PS3 entry, which has had its price shot, run over and exploded down to a manageable $29.99 for the next week.

PS One Classics Twisted Metal and Twisted Metal 2 are both on sale for $4.99 each; Twisted Metal Black, the PS2 entry in the series, is on sale for $7.99 - you may recall it was included in first edition copies of 2012's Twisted Metal gratis. If purchasing piecemeal isn't your idea of a good deal, you can get everything together in the Twisted Birthday Bundle for $39.99.

Last year's Twisted Metal made its PSN debut in October for $40 - if you missed out on Eat Sleep Play's entry in the long-running series, be sure to read our review.

Hey all! I wanted to drop by PlayStation.Blog to help celebrate the one-year anniversary of Twisted Metal for PS3!

“What?!?” I hear you say, “The game’s already been out for a year?!?” Indeed it has! Crazy how time flies, huh?

Seems like only yesterday some of y’all were telling me I was an idiot for focusing the new game on three characters versus a larger cast like we did in the earlier TM games. Ah, good times, good times.

But seriously, on behalf of myself and the amazing Twisted Metal teams from Eat Sleep Play and Sony, please allow me to say thanks to all of the Twisted Metal fans who showed up to support this latest explosion of carnage and meaty gameplay.

While our online community is by no means the biggest in gaming, it’s so exciting to see that it’s very much alive and kicking. It’s easy to find games, and new players are hitting the scene each and every week. We’ve gone through a number of post-launch tuning passes, and other than a handful of annoying glitches we just can’t address (remote bomb transportation, anyone?), we feel the multiplayer in this new Twisted Metal (both online and 2-4 player local splitscreen) is the best it’s ever been!

So jump online this week a-…huh? What’s that you are saying now?!? You haven’t even tried the new Twisted Metal yet?!? And you! Yeah, the one wearing the Battletoads sweatshirt standing in the back trying to ‘blend in’. You say you’ve never tried anyTwisted Metal game?!? Well land sakes alive, you’ve done come to the right Twisted Metal PS3 Anniversary post! Check this out:

Starting later today, February 12th and running for only one week, PSN is running the following Twisted Metal sale:

  • Get Twisted Metal PS3 for only $29.99! That’s right, the latest and greatest Twisted Metal for PS3 is on sale for one week only at a super low-price that’s even crazier than Sweet Tooth!
  • Get Twisted Metal (PSone Classic) for just $4.99. Yep, the one that started it all is now for sale digitally, for the first time ever!
  • Get Twisted Metal 2 (PSone Classic) for $4.99 as well! For many, TM2 is the best in the series. If you dig splitscreen competitive gaming, this is the one to pick up!
  • Twisted Metal Black (PS2 Classic) hits for $7.99 and yes, it does contain all of the gruesome, sick, twisted, and disturbing movie endings! For those not in the know, Twisted Metal Black is the game that took the comic book, T-rated universe of the PSone-era games and steered it into the dark, sinister universe that we all know and love today.
  • And if you’ve got a real sweet tooth for car combat, pick up all of the above via a little something we like to call the Twisted Birthday Bundle, for just $39.99! Man, that’s a lot of depraved (but deep) vehicle combat for very little cash!

So there you have it. I hope you agree: PSN is throwing Sweet Tooth and the gang one hell of a birthday party! I hope you’ll be there to help celebrate some of the best car combat the biz has to offer (if I may say so myself!) And I hope to see you online with Twisted Metal PS3! It’ll be fun to kill you!

Oh and don’t forget: go to TwistedMetal.com to create your very own custom vehicle skins to take into your online battles and to download from the countless skins the community has already created and uploaded!

Stay Twisted y’all! And thanks so much – as always – for all of the amazing support you’ve given the series over the years!

Twisted Metal is heading to PSN October 30, as announced in a recent PlayStation blog podcast. The game will also see a drop in price, as it will be available on the service for $40.

Creative Director David Jaffe said the game was "not a dud, not a hit" back in August. Jaffe left Twisted Metal developer Eat Sleep Play after the game's launch in March. If $40 still has you feeling uncertain, our review of the game might help you decide where to put your wallet.

With Sony's latest Twisted Metal game now firmly shoved onto retail shelves with minimal fanfare and even less marketing, now seems like the perfect time to just go ahead and squeeze a movie out of the franchise, what with awareness of the series currently existing. After all, considering that David Jaffe has moved on to other things while his former studio, Eat Sleep Play, has decided to focus on social games, it doesn't seem altogether likely we'll be getting another game in this series any time soon. This is probably the highest level of "brand awareness" for all things Twisted Metal that we'll see for quite some time.

Just add some clown make-up and give him an ice cream truck, and we're good to go, right?

So, seemingly aware of this relatively narrow window of sudden relevance, Sony Pictures, alongside the Arad brothers (who are the central figures behind all of the Spider-Man movies released over the last several years, including the upcoming reboot), went ahead and made a deal with one of half of the writing/directing duo behind such glorious films as the Jason Statham-fronted Crank movies, as well as the soon-to-be-released Marvel sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, to helm a Twisted Metal film project.

Brian Taylor, the half of the pair not named Mark Neveldine, will reportedly be getting seven figures to write and direct the film, which will follow the plot of the game, such as it is. There will be a vehicular combat-oriented tournament, and it will feature characters like Sweet Tooth, Doll Face, and the enigmatic Calypso. Deadline's report even goes on to describe the concept of Twisted Metal as a "Faustian bargain" in which violent men risk their lives for great reward, which is officially the most philosophical bent anyone has taken in describing something that includes a clown with a flaming skull who drives a weaponized ice cream truck.

Why Mark Neveldine isn't part of this deal--the pair have, thus far, only written and directed films together--no one seems quite certain, except to say that the two do have other projects lined up together. Still, even one half of that pair ought to bring a comfortable level of insanity to such a project, not to mention a decided expertise in the subject matter. After all, Taylor already spent the last several months working with Nicolas Cage's own flaming skull on Spirit of Vengeance, and clearly understands the nature of what it means to be a "gamer," what with having essentially made the film equivalent of Grand Theft Auto on methamphetamines in Crank, and created the teenage-boy-controls-Gerard-Butler-and-makes-him-shoot-dudes-in-the-face thriller Gamer. I mean, it's right there in the title.

Sony has reportedly signed a deal with writer and director Brian Taylor (the auteur behind both Crank movies, the Jonah Hex screenplay, and the most recent Ghost Rider flick) to make a movie based on the Twisted Metal car combat games. Avi and Ari Arad (who formerly worked with Marvel on the Spider-Man series, among other projects) are said to be producing the movie, should it come to fruition.

If the deal pans out, the screenplay would follow the story of the games, pitting a series of vehicular combatants, including the iconic Doll Face and Sweet Tooth, against each other in a tournament to win a wish from the devilish Calypso. We don't have a lot of attachment to the game's "story," so we already expect Taylor to take all of the liberties he wants. We do have one fan request, though: Can we get a David Jaffe cameo? Please?

As you know, the epic return of Twisted Metal is less than a week away and we’re going launch it with a bang … literally. Ever since the announcement at E3 2010, we’ve been fighting over who gets to keep the real Sweet Tooth truck, and we had an idea … let’s shoot at it till it blows up! So that’s exactly what we’re gonna do.

We happened to get our hands on a couple M249-SAWs (for the layman: fully automatic machine guns) and enough ammo and explosives to wipe out a small nation. Put those things together and we’re gonna make the truck go boom (for the layman: we’re blowing Sweet Tooth’s ice cream truck off the face off the earth). But here’s the kicker: it’s not gonna be us who are shooting it. It’s gonna be you!

6850030211_f7fae59793_z.jpg

That’s right, we’ve hooked these guns up to a satellite so you can control them remotely from your computer. Yes, you read that correctly. You can shoot a real gun with real bullets at a real truck from your computer, in a crazy, two-day, shoot-till-the-truck-goes-up-in-a-gigantic-ball-of-flames-style internet spectacular. It’s all happening at shootmytruck.com via live stream.

So go to shootmytruck.com right now to sign up for a chance to shoot. I can’t think of a better way to spend Valentine’s Day than shooting up a truck from your computer and then going out and buying Twisted Metal. Get your trigger fingers ready, America. It’s shooting time.

Today’s lesson focuses on risk vs. reward in the high-stakes world of vehicular combat. Experienced Twisted Metal players have long known that the highest-damage attacks require quite a bit of risk, and this 2012 revival is no exception. Whether you’re swooping in close to deliver a point-blank Shotgun blast or charging up the devastating Swarmer missile, Twisted Metal’s sprawling arsenal requires a firm, steady hand.

Watch today’s new video to learn how to best manage high-risk special attacks such as Roadkill’s devastating Blood Missile Barrage and Reaper’s Flamesaw — two of the most lethal weapons in the game. Then use this knowledge to give you a headstart on multiplayer combat this February 14th when Twisted Metal finally lands on PS3!
