#stayingalive You know what's so appealing about this new Tomb Raider? The vulnerability. So many games turn you into a superhero that it's refreshing to see one where breaking bones and bleeding look as dangerous as it should be. More »

#impressions No Tomb Raider reboot has been as substantial, none could be as meaningful. In delivering to gamers a young, inexperienced Lara Croft, Crystal Dynamics doesn't seek to just reboot the series, but to make it's heroine into something we as gamers connect with emotionally. More »

Lara Croft has never been much more than a giant pair of boobs that pushes boulders and shoots endangered animals. While her Tomb Raider series is one of the longest-running and most popular franchises in gaming, it was time for a change after nine similar outings. I've seen where developer Crystal Dynamics is taking this iconic character, and I feel as excited about Tomb Raider now as I was when I played Lara's first adventure 15 years ago...

Square Enix has released this teaser trailer for the new Tomb Raider reboot on YouTube (after showing it on Spike earlier tonight), and boy is it purty. As promised by the game's reveal back in December of last year, the fully CGI trailer features a younger, (dare we say) more naive Lara Croft, given some slightly more savage and primitive tools by the end than we've ever seen before.

Sure, there's a Sully-esque old guy in there, but man, that setpiece at the end of the trailer more than makes up for any similarity to any other grave-exploring titles you may also be fond of. Stay tuned -- we'll have lots more information about this game for you as we head on into E3 next week.

Alright. Okay. I’m not sure there’s any conceivable way that Crystal Dynamics’ forthcoming reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise could be half as arresting and gorgeous as this trailer. Tell you what, though. I’m looking forward to seeing them try.(more…)

Lady Lara Croft clearly has her strengths, but she's also not without her weaknesses. Take, for instance, her inability to recognize value. She sees a priceless antique pot in a temple not breached by man for centuries, and what's her reaction? She smashes it to see if there are bullets inside. Lara: They sell them at Wal-Mart. Just bring more.

You don't have to be a Lara, though. When you spot the Tomb Raider Trilogy on PS3 for $30 at Amazon, you know you could buy it and enjoy it, or perhaps give it to a friend. In fact, just about any interaction would be more appropriate than doing a backflip and blasting it with dual pistols. But you wouldn't make that mistake, would you?

Eidos has opened its vault of classic Tomb Raider games for a new PS3 collection -- it has raided the tomb, if you prefer. The "Tomb Raider Trilogy" seen on retail websites last month has been described on the PlayStation Blog as a PS3-exclusive compilation of Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider games. It's due on March 22 at the seemingly standard PS3 trilogy collection price of $39.99.

According to the announcement, Tomb Raider Legend and Tomb Raider Anniversary are presented in "remastered HD versions" -- odd, considering they already supported HD for Xbox 360 and PC. Tomb Raider Underworld was already a PS3 game, so it's just along for the ride.

In addition to these three games, the Trilogy includes the slightest dusting of bonus content, in the form of an exclusive static theme, two PlayStation Home avatars, and some behind-the-scenes videos.
