San Diego Comic-Con is one of our favorite shows to attend each year and we can’t wait for SDCC to start TOMORROW!

This year’s Comic-Con is a little special for us – we have a ton of UNCHARTED news to reveal, from a panel to many partnerships for all our fans asking for action figures, comic books, novels, statues, vinyls and more!

UNCHARTED 3 at the PlayStation Booth – Booth #4237
Are you having withdrawal from the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta? Or did you never get a chance to jump online and get hands on with UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer? Then head over to the PlayStation booth (#4237) where there are six stations running Three-Team Deathmatch for the ENTIRE run of Comic-Con 2011. If we’re feeling generous, we may give some folks a few shots at the Syria map of Co-op Adventure. Make sure to follow @Naughty_Dog on Twitter to stay up to date on UNCHARTED 3 at the PlayStation Booth each day at SDCC.

You’ll also want to head to the booth as we’re giving away a limited number of SDCC 2011 EXCLUSIVE t-shirts each day. Each t-shirt will come with an SDCC 2011 exclusive PlayStation Store voucher code redeemable for either a Multiplayer character torso item or a mystery weapon skin. You’ll get one of these randomly if you’re lucky enough to grab a t-shirt. Come back the following day if you strike out.

These awesome shirts feature a design by Erick Scarecrow of ESC Toys – scroll down to get more info on our partnership with Erick Scarecrow and ESC Toys.

UNCHARTED 3 Panel – Room 25ABC
Our panel at Comic-Con two years ago for UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves was a unilateral success – you won’t want to miss the one we’ve got lined up for this year. On Friday, July 22, at 4:00 PM, we’ll be kicking off the UNCHARTED 3 panel in room 25ABC. You’ll want to show up early to get a seat! The panel description is below.

Developing Interactive Entertainment: The Performance Capture Techniques of the UNCHARTED Franchise and Today’s Film Industry
Join UNCHARTED 3’s Creative Director Amy Hennig, Cinematics team members Josh Scherr and Taylor Kurosaki, and cast members Nolan North, Richard McGonagle, and Emily Rose to discuss the influence of theatrical techniques and styles from the history of film that have helped the team continually produce industry-leading and award-winning interactive entertainment.

5955119208_072bc23c53_m.jpg

We’re also giving away an exclusive blue variant of our SDCC 2011 t-shirt at the end of the panel. The UNCHARTED 3 panel is the ONLY place you can grab one of these t-shirts, so be sure to show up early to ensure you get into the room – capacity is limited to about 400 people according to the SDCC floorplan. Of course, each t-shirt will also come with either a Multiplayer character torso item that matches the shirt OR the corresponding mystery weapon skin.

DC Comics – Booth #1915
What better place than Comic-Con to talk about a comic book that takes place in the UNCHARTED universe? That’s right, we’ve been working with DC Comics to develop a comic book series featuring Nathan Drake.

UNCHARTED #1 launches Nathan Drake on a journey to the center of the earth on a quest to see the legendary “Amber Room.” As enemies from Sir Francis Drake’s past come for revenge on his descendant, Drake must use all the skills at his disposal to stay one step ahead of the game. UNCHARTED #1 is written by Joshua Williamson (SUPERMAN/BATMAN), with fantastic art by Francesco Francavilla (DETECTIVE COMICS) and featuring covers by the legendary Adam Hughes. The comic series is scheduled to debut just in time for the release of UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception in stores. Stay tuned for more details soon!

5954563183_26db30696a.jpg

It wouldn’t be Comic-Con if we couldn’t get you something exclusive from one of the artists working on the UNCHARTED comic book series – the one and only ADAM HUGHES will be signing a limited-edition UNCHARTED cover art poster on Friday and Sunday during SDCC 2011. The signings are first-come, first-serve and you can find Adam and his awesome UNCHARTED poster at the following locations and times:

Friday: AA4 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Sunday: AA3 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

ESC Toys
Our partnership with ESC Toys has been a long, long time in the making. As of this week, the UNCHARTED Nathan Drake limited edition vinyl figure is finally available for pre-order! The 7″ vinyl figure is a combination of vinyl and PVC materials along with minor articulation and is based on the stylized translation of Nathan Drake by Erick Scarecrow. There will be two colorways: the OG “original” colorway which is standard edition and the “Naughty Dog” colorway which is limited to 500pcs worldwide. The pot has been sweetened a little since each figure is packed with a PlayStation Store voucher code redeemable for exclusive UNCHARTED 3 downloadable content! All figures are scheduled to ship mid October 2011, if not earlier – You can follow @ESCToy on Twitter to stay up to date on the latest!

Mezco Toyz Nathan Drake Figure – Booth #3445

We’ve partnered with the award-winning Mezco Toyz to release a 6-inch scale figure of Nathan Drake based off of the iconic cover image from UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception. We worked closely with Mezco’s Design Team to create a figure that goes beyond a simple likeness but embodies the very “essence” of Drake. From his AK-74, holster, and bandolier, to his ring necklace, everything is perfectly game-accurate. The figure also comes with a sturdy, textured “sand” base to complete the display.

The Mezco Toys Nathan Drake Figure is scheduled to be available in the Fourth Quarter of 2011 – and will be available for purchase at MezcoToyz.com and finer retailers.

Random House / Del Rey – Booth # 1515
Announced nearly a year ago, the UNCHARTED team, Random House, and author Chris Golden have been working together to create an original novel set in the universe of the UNCHARTED games. The description of UNCHARTED: THE FOURTH LABYRINTH is below, along with a little info on author Chris Golden.

In UNCHARTED: THE FOURTH LABYRINTH, Nathan Drake will embark on an all-new, original, action-packed adventure. When Nathan’s partner, Sully, asks for his help in finding a friend’s murderer, Nathan begins to unravel a mystery that will uncover some even bigger secrets. Sully’s friend was close to discovering an ancient process of turning lead into gold – a secret that a shadowy international corporation would do anything to steal, and now Nathan and Sully may be their next targets! This thrilling adventure will take Nathan from the ruins of Crete to a secret crypt deep in the heart of China–and into a mysterious labyrinth that may be hiding the greatest secret of all!

5955119320_47191b4c69_m.jpg

Christopher Golden is the award-winning, bestselling author of such novels as The Ferryman, Strangewood, The Gathering Dark, and The Body of Evidence series of teen thrillers. Working with actress/writer/director Amber Benson, he co-created and co-wrote Ghosts of Albion, an animated supernatural drama for BBC online. Golden has also written or co-written a great many books and comic books related to the TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel,” as well as the scripts for two Buffy video games. His recent comic book work includes the creator-owned Nevermore and DC Comics’ Doctor Fate: The Curse. There are more than eight million copies of his books in print.

Sideshow Collectibles
We’ve been working with Sideshow Collectibles on the pretty sweet Nathan Drake statue for the Uncharted 3 Collector’s Edition box, but we’re not stopping there. We’re extremely proud to reveal that we’ve been working with Sideshow Collectibles on something special for our Uncharted community. With Comic-Con kicking off this week, you’ll start to hear more about that soon as well.

Square Enix Play Arts -Kai- Action Figure – Booth #3829
The Square Enix Play Arts -Kai- action figures caught our eye last year as we were roaming around the SDCC exhibit hall. Just one year later, it’s awesome to come back to SDCC being able to reveal we are working with the team to create a high quality collectible Nathan Drake figure!

The release date hasn’t been set, but we’ve been able to work with our partners at Square Enix to give you this sneak peek at the figure, which features 21 points of articulation.

5954562717_5285006f74.jpg

Note: The figure is still under evaluation by SCEA, but you can come by the Square Enix booth (#3829) and view the Nathan Drake figure as IN PERSON as it makes its public debut at San Diego Comic-Con 2011!

Now that the Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception online beta has run its course, the PlayStation Blog has released some very interesting statistics from the game's developer, Naughty Dog. Arne Meyer of Naughty Dog describes the statistics as "jaw-dropping," and considering this was the most-trafficked beta in PlayStation 3's history, that sounds pretty accurate...

Sadly, the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta came to an end earlier today, racking up over 1.53 MILLION unique players participating! This makes UNCHARTED 3 the LARGEST online beta to appear on the PS3. I cannot describe how awesome everyone in the Naughty Dog studio feels about hitting this milestone – we couldn’t have done it without you, our fans and community!

Below, we’ve collected some jaw-dropping stats from the Multiplayer Beta. You guys were busy!

-Total unique Beta players: 1.53 million people

-Total kills: 1.9 billion

-Total Cash collected: 1.4 TRILLION dollars (that’s greater than the gross domestic product of Spain, the eleventh highest GDP in the world!)

We’re keeping the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta feedback forums on NaughtyDog.com open over the weekend so you can post your closing thoughts. We’ll close the forums on Monday, reopen the normal Multiplayer discussion forum, and spend the next weeks poring over all your feedback to see what else we should look into. We’ve already made changes, fixes and tweaks during the Beta and before we put the finishing touches on UNCHARTED 3, we will make more tweaks entirely based on your collective feedback. Our multiplayer game design team thanks you!

If you still need your UNCHARTED 3 multiplayer fix and you’re headed to San Diego Comic-Con next week, you’re in luck! We are bringing a limited selection of the gametypes featured in the Beta to the PlayStation Booth located in the Exhibit Hall for all FIVE days! We’ve got an UNCHARTED 3 panel on Friday and a bunch of announcements to boot – we’ll have a proper blowout on all the news here on the PlayStation.Blog early next week.

If you’re not headed to San Diego Comic-Con, you’ll be able to scratch that multiplayer itch again in just a few months! In October, you’ll have the exclusive opportunity to jump into the FULL UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer experience by visiting your participating SUBWAY restaurant before the Blu-ray copies hit retail on November 1st. Check back on the PlayStation.Blog for more details as we get closer to October – if you want to get a jump start with your Multiplayer career, you won’t want to miss this!

Of course, don’t forget to pre-order if you haven’t already.

One last note about the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta Rewards – if you’re looking forward to getting your hard-earned rewards from hitting any or all of the requirements, PLEASE be sure to update your Account Settings to ALLOW “communications from PlayStation.” There’s a handy link on the Account Settings page on PlayStation.com to do this. Otherwise our pals at the PlayStation Network offices won’t be able to e-mail you and you won’t get your rewards!

You don’t want that to happen, do you?

I look forward to taking a few potshots at each and every one of you within the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer this October, if not sooner!

Sony lucked its way into one of the most effective methods of enticing users back to the PSN after all that unpleasantness. By offering PlayStation Plus access to all, the once-exclusive Uncharted 3 beta became open to anyone willing to accept their Welcome Back packages, and according to Sony, over "1.5 million unique players" have tried the beta out. The company announced this in its response to tonight's NPD sales data (which is forthcoming).

It should come as no surprise that unrestricted access to a free, early chunk of one of the PS3's biggest holiday titles would turn out to be popular.

Wow, this was a massive week for UNCHARTED 3! We kicked off the week on Monday by updating the available gametypes in the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta to provide more variety from the prior week.

Then, starting Tuesday, the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta was opened up for wide PSN access. The Beta is totally free and available from now until July 14th – there’s no excuse not to hop in and play at least a few matches!

One day after the Beta went fully public, we passed one million unique players in the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta. Not only that, but the player count is growing with each passing day! We couldn’t be prouder of our community coming out in such numbers to play in the Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Beta.

Next week is the FINAL week in the Beta – we’ll be shutting down the servers on Thursday, July 14th – so be sure to get your fill of UNCHARTED 3 before it goes away for a few months. This will also be your last week to hit the requirements to receive the rewards we’re offering that will be active for the retail version of UNCHARTED 3 — rewards such as UNCHARTED 3 PSN Beta Tester Avatar, Treasure Hunter’s Starter Pack, in-game cash on day one and more.

On Sunday, July 10th, we’ll be updating the available gametypes and maps in the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta according to the schedule we released. We’ll be adding the never-before-seen Yemen map and it will be your first opportunity to play Co-op Adventure!

Don’t forget to visit the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta feedback forum and leave us your thoughts on the Beta and any issues you may have encountered. We’re counting on you to help us make the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer experience the best it can be!

Plus, head to your local SUBWAY restaurant in October for an exclusive opportunity to get access to the FULL UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer experience BEFORE UNCHARTED 3 is released! We’ll give you full details here on the PlayStation.Blog closer to October.

Welcome to the second week of the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta!

We’re exceptionally excited as today is the day the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta goes public! By the end of today, anyone and everyone with access to the PlayStation Store should be able to view and download the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta – no codes required!

As we head into the second week of the UNCHARTED 3 Beta, we’re updating the available gametypes to the following:

July 4
to
July 9 Gametypes:
Team Deathmatch, Free For All, Team Objective, Hardcore, Co-op Hunter
Maps:
Airstrip, Chateau

You’ll notice Team Objective and Co-op Hunter as new additions for this week. I’ve been liking the Co-op Hunter gametype lately – the twist of adding in human players into what seems to be a Co-op mode is quite intriguing. You can catch some clips of Co-op Hunter in action in the video below, or on our YouTube channel:

Along with the update to the available gametypes, we’ve updated the video playlist for UNCHARTED TV to add one awesome fan created video. We’re always on the lookout for great fan created content – if you’ve got something in the works, drop us a line on the UNCHARTED 3 Fan Created Content forum on NaughtyDog.com.

You’ll also want to check out yesterday’s IGN article as they caught up with Robert Cogburn, our multiplayer game designer, to get a temperature check on the first week of the Beta – and what’s the deal with players leveling far beyond the level cap of 25 originally mentioned back when the Beta started. Robert also revealed the astounding 600,000 unique players that participated in the first week of the Beta – we’re looking forward to seeing that number grow quite a bit now that the Beta is available as a public download!

If you didn’t catch the patch notes last week and were wondering what was contained within the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta 1.01 patch, we’ve listed all of the updates below:

Relevant minor updates prior to 1.01

  • Temporarily removed Plunder gametype from matchmaking
  • Added in Free For All to replace Plunder
  • Temporarily disabled Facebook integration

Gameplay

  • Removed Yemen from map rotation in Free For All. Yemen will return during its regularly scheduled week.
  • Temporarily removed Cursed from Power Play rotation.

Technical

  • Fixed issue where a crash would occur when backing out of multiplayer.
  • Fixed frequent slowing of framerate that could lead to the Beta freezing.
  • Fixed a crash involving Emblems.

Don’t forget to leave your feedback on the Beta in the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer Beta Discussion forum – we want to hear your likes, your dislikes and any issues you have experienced. We’re counting on our community to be extremely vocal to help us shape the UNCHARTED 3 Multiplayer experience to be one of the best!

The staff at Naughty Dog don't stop working at two o'clock, they just start playing. A company-wide shootout happens every day, testing the multiplayer modes in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and funneling data into the never-ending tuning process that any online action game must endure. And when the scheduled war is over, participants can march over to game designer Robert Cogburn's desk, ready to lament the changes made to the firing rate of the sniper rifle. It was great, Rob, but now it sucks.

"When it comes to multiplayer, everyone's opinion is valid," Cogburn says. "I don't like the way this gun feels. Okay, tell me why. I love the way the gun felt. Alright, tell me why. To find that grey is such a black art, and I'm still working on it right now."

[Update: That didn't take long! We're all out of codes. If you didn't get one, don't despair! Remember, the beta will be open to the public on July 5 ... or just get that free PlayStation Plus membership and download the beta through there. See, it's not so bad.]

If you signed up for that free PlayStation Plus account (thanks, Welcome Back program!) or snagged a copy of inFamous 2, you may already be waist-deep in Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception multiplayer beta goodness. Oh, you were waiting for someone to hand you a free beta key, in exchange for very little to no effort on your part?

Well friend, we like the cut of your jib and, just because you were honest with us, we're going to repay your lethargy with a free beta code. Click that blue button below and be whisked away to our incredible key distribution experience. Okay, confession time: There's a second button you'll have to click there, then you'll need to write down the key that Sony generously provided, and take it to your PlayStation 3 where you'll punch it in on the top right of the PlayStation Store and, voila, Bob's your uncle.
