I’ve always been a fan of the gag where a TV show or what have you spends ages building to something, only to air an absurdly quick segment and then roll the credits at blink-and-you’ll-miss-them-and-now-my-TV’s-a-time-space-vortex speed. I see what they’re doing there, even when I can’t physically see what they doing there. With Skyrim’s Dawnguard DLC, though, I think Bethesda just created the game announcement equivalent. After weeks of rumor-mongering, hinting, and teasing, the developer announced… an announcement. We now have a name, that dashingly glowy-eyed face, and an assurance that it’s “coming this summer to Xbox 360″ (which means one month after that for everyone else) and we can look forward to “more details at E3.”

Bethesda Game Studios has been dropping hints about the first downloadable content for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and now we have the first details, even if it’s not very much. Here’s what we do know.

It’s called Dawnguard, and it’s coming to Xbox 360 first this summer--as was the case with Fallout 3, too. Anything else will have to wait a few weeks, as Bethseda is teasing an official unveiling at E3.

Don’t be surprised if Dawnguard shows up at Microsoft’s press conference before E3 kicks off.

Skyrim will receive its first DLC pack Dawnguard... um, at some point in the future. Bethesda announced the name of the pack today, simply teasing the pack will be this summer on Xbox 360, with more info at E3. The expansion announcement comes over six months since the lands of the north were opened to adventurers, and former adventurers who took an arrow... well, you know.

The Dawnguard announcement comes a week after files in the latest Skyrim patch heralded the DLC's approach.

Also available today is the free Kinect update for Xbox 360 that adds over 200 different voice commands to English-accented Dragon-speaking regions.

Tomorrow Bethesda hatches its scheme to coax your inner Dragonborn into speaking - well, Dragonborn with a second-language credit in English, anyway. The free Kinect update adds over 200 different voice recognition commands to English-speaking regions; there are a bunch of new things to memorize, so Bethesda made a handy glossary for you to load up on your iPad or print out. The .pdf files can be accessed by clicking here.

Simply boot up Skyrim and install the mandatory Xbox 360 update tomorrow. After spending some time with it ourselves earlier this month, we liked how it bypassed a lot of menu work. The Bethesda Blog says the German, Italian, Spanish and French versions are all "in final testing" and that we should hear more regarding those territories soon.

A Bethesda forum member went exploring in the files from the latest Skyrim patch, and found several references to "Snow Elves," including a "Snow Elf Prince," who has dialogue (we assume it's all about Purple Snow). There are also files referring to crossbows, and a whole folder called "DLC01."

The assumption, of course, is that this is content that will be present in future downloadable content, which has been conspicuously absent from the super-popular game to date. RipTen speculates, based on some previous in-game lore, that spears might also be present in the unannounced material. We checked in with Bethesda, who told us it had "no comment" on the matter. Sadly, it wasn't even a "snow comment" pun.

As much as I love Skyrim, there are some tedious parts of the game that could use a good streamlining.

The monotony of having to go through menus to deal with inventory and skills is something, in particular, we could all do without. Enter: Kinect. The free update coming to Skyrim on Xbox 360 next week goes more for function than flash, and after spending some time issuing voice commands, I can unequivocally say it's much-welcomed functionality.

As divisive as Kinect can be, it's still been seeing its way into a wide breadth of Xbox 360 experiences, ranging from casual family fare to core games like Mass Effect 3. Now, one of the biggest hits of last year is seeing its own form of Kinect implementation as Kinect support is coming to Skyri...

When Skyrim's Kinect functionality arrives some time during "the week of April 23," it'll come in five different languages (English, Italian, Spanish, German, and French). Bethesda revealed said details to CNN in an exclusive interview, wherein the concept was referred to as "Project Adam" and outed as having begun "shortly after the game's release in November."

Despite the addition of Kinect to Skyrim in a voice-based way, Bethesda VP of marketing and PR Pete Hines said replacing any combat with physical actions in front of a Kinect sensor wouldn't make a lot of sense. "Doing combat and swinging your sword and all that stuff without a controller would dramatically change the game. We're trying to enhance the experience as we designed it with some additional functionality." We can't help but agree, Mr. Hines.

Take a look at the upcoming Kinect support for Skyrim in the video just above.

My neighbors will probably not appreciate the Kinect update for Skyrim.

When The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim executive producer Todd Howard showed off an internal studio experiment with Kinect at DICE earlier this year, it seemed too cool to not happen. Fortunately, it is!

Bethseda Games Studios announced a title update is coming to Skyrim later this month with more than 200 voice commands.

The voice commands will let players manage save and load, dragon shouts, hotkey equipping, follower commands, and managing menus (items, magic, map, barter, container, favorites, skills).

Will anyone actually use this stuff? Who knows! I probably won't.

The studio also teased downloadable content for Skyrim, but didn’t release any details, except to say it “hopes” to announce it “soon” and will add what you expect: quests, locations, features, and “more.”

I wonder if they’ll actually do something with the partially built landmass that suggests a connection to Morrowind...

Bethesda Softworks announced this morning that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is getting Kinect support for "more than 200 voice commands" at some point this month via a title update. The developer promises that said voice commands will apply to a variety of verbs across the world of Skyrim, from Dragon Shouts (Fus Roh Dah!) to follower commands, and a mess of other voice-activated actions.

The Kinect functionality for Skyrim is the latest product of Bethesda's internal Skyrim game jam, following on the heels of the 1.5 update which featured the kill cams from said game jam. There's an adorable video showing off how it'll all work that we've embedded just above.

Update: A Bethesda rep told Joystiq that the update is exclusive to the Xbox 360, despite Kinect existing on PC.
