It's a pretty neat application, not only because it saves you the trouble of asking each of your real-life cohorts what their code is individually, but because it provides you with a surprising catalog of everyone you know that owns the system. Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns will launch in North America this summer simultaneously on the DS and 3DS. A 3DS Harvest Moon was previously revealed, but we weren't aware of the dual platform launch.

The latest Harvest Moon plot revolves around two towns torn apart by a rivalry over food. As a new farmer, players will have to choose between the crop-lovin' Eastern-styled town of Konohana or the meat-meat-meat, European-styled Bluebell. In time, players will bring a truce between the towns -- likely by developing an industrial farming complex that buys out both towns and places all the local farmers into indentured servitude.

Now this sounds familiar. Majesco just announced that it's publishing an augmented-reality game for a Nintendo handheld, to be released around Halloween, that allows you to search for ghostly phenomena in your environment using the system's camera.

No, it's not the DSi game Ghostwire, whose developer is still seeking a publisher after splitting with Majesco. The new game is The Hidden, created by 1st Playable Productions, and coming this October to 3DS.

The Hidden puts the player in the role of a member of the Ghostly Entity Investigation and Strike Team (G.E.I.S.T.), hunting around the real world to find spectral creatures, and then "using a full arsenal of high tech tools and upgradeable weapons, including the Plasmatic Disruptor, Ectoplasm Sensor and Spectral Shield" to defeat them.

Namco Bandai sent out new screenshots of the two new games in Pac-Man & Galaga Dimensions: "Pac-Man Tilt" and "Galaga 3D Impact." We've placed the screens in separate galleries in case, for some reason, you have trouble distinguishing Pac-Man from Galaga.

The 3DS collection, which also includes the original Pac-Man and Galaga arcade games, along with Championship Edition and Galaga Legions, will be released this summer in North America. If you’re looking for some StreetPass activity, it looks like you should have set out for Wondercon 2011! As you can see, there were plenty of people to cross paths with. Glad to see new 3DS owners taking to the StreetPass fun!

For those of you who find glasses-free 3D unnatural, Nyko (doesn't actually) have a solution: 3D glasses for use with the 3DS. Featuring "Lens-less is More" technology, the $100 frames accurately bring the 3D movie experience home -- at least the part of the experience that involves wearing giant, stupid glasses.

The April Fools' Day joke on the Nyko website acted as a lead-in for a Facebook contest, in which fans were asked to send in pictures of their own useless 3D glasses. The prize was a free Charge Base/Power Pak+ package -- a product which, unlike these glasses, has been proven by a reliable authority to have a function.

Oh, Gaijin Games -- you truly are a cruel mistress. Not only have you teased us once again with the Bit.Trip franchise's arrival on the 3DS by emailing us the red-and-blue Commander Video posted below, but you've done so on the day where absolutely nothing is believable. This is Bit.Trip.Sadistic.

Following its announcement of the 3DS's record US launch, Nintendo has revealed that the device was pocketed by roughly 113,000 UK buyers this past weekend, and by about 303,000 eager adopters across all of the European Union; and this despite the delay of the much-anticipated launch title Super Celery Man: 4D3D3DS.

According to Nintendo, the 3DS is now the fastest-selling handheld the company has ever released in the UK. As Nintendo was keen to point out, the 3DS even beat "the number achieved by Nintendo's market-leading home console Wii" in the region. Apparently, the third dimension resonates deeper with consumers than waggle tech. Who knew!

But even with all these record-breaking launches around the world, the 3DS seems unlikely to reach Nintendo's stated goal of 4 million units shipped by the end of March (which is to say, "by yesterday").

It's been kind of a bummer day, hasn't it? Studio closures? Game cancellations? No thanks. Nyko was first out of the gate with a product designed to ameliorate the 3DS's infamous battery life issue. The Power Pak + is a replacement battery that Nyko claims will double the runtime of the 3D handheld.

Nyko sent Joystiq one of the packs, along with the optional Charge Base cradle (the Power Pak + uses the normal AC adapter, but is incompatible with the dock that ships with the 3DS) and I decided to put that claim to the test, and evaluate the device in a non-battery-life capacity as well.
