Update: Just a scant eight hours later, Nintendo has clarified its promise of " an additional library of select 3D movies" for the 3DS. The clarification in short? "Nah."

"The press release announcing the new Netflix service for Nintendo 3DS also references the system's upcoming short-form video service," Big N said in a written statement. "Nintendo 3DS owners soon will be able to enjoy free, specially selected video content that includes 3D movie trailers, comedy clips and music videos." This is, of course, the short form video service we learned of in March.

Just to be clear, by "an additional library of select movies," Nintendo meant "the new Bruno Mars video and the trailer for Big Momma Goes to the Big House."

We haven't struck through all the previous text after the jump -- because that would be almost as annoying as, say, not knowing what the word "movie" means -- but just know it's a non-story.

You know Netflix. You know 3DS. But can you conceive of what the two would look like ... together? You almost certainly can. But now that we've introduced that seed of doubt, the possibility that you may be wrong, can you resist checking the above video for yourself to reestablish your faith in your deductive powers?

We suspect that you can not.

Buried deep within an announcement of the release of the 3DS Netflix app, Nintendo revealed that 3D movies will soon be available for the handheld. "Users will soon have access to an additional library of select movies that can be viewed in 3D without the need for special glasses," the announcement says. It's not entirely clear from the wording of the release whether this will be part of the Netflix service or a separate app -- but the whole press release was about Netflix.

During GDC, Nintendo announced its intent to release 3D movie trailers for 3DS, which it did last month for Green Lantern, with a video downloadable from the eShop. In addition, both Japan and Europe have "Nintendo Video" services that display 3D television content -- but not movies.

We've contacted Nintendo for more details on this announcement; in the meantime, we'll be crossing our fingers (and eyes) for more 3D stuff to watch soon.

Ever since Nintendo's 3DS launched back in March, we've been hanging on by a thread, counting down the minutes until this week's eShop update. And no, it's not just because Extreme Hangman 2 is finally dropping on DSiWare: apparently Netflix's streaming video application will be as well. Finally a chance to bring Agent Cooper on the go and make those smug short-form video users in Europe and Japan quit their braggin'!

Nintendo revealed as much with an early announcement of its weekly eShop, DSi, and Wii Shop updates, also detailing several games that will be available for purchase across the Wii, DSi, and 3DS. We're particularly fond of the Virtual Console Game & Watch Gallery coming to 3DS, but fans of super old-school sports games may be more excited to hear about Baseball being this week's other retro re-release.

Tomorrow, Nintendo of Japan will launch its 3DS "Nintendo Video" service, following the debut of that service in Europe. Confusingly, this is the second 3DS video service, with its own dedicated app, in Japan. There's also SpotPass TV, which started late last month.

What's the difference? SpotPass TV is original content produced by Fuji TV and Nippon TV, all in 3D, and delivered daily; Nintendo Video, according to Andriasang, offers periodic releases of 2D and 3D content "recommended" by Nintendo.

It's quite likely that two teams were working on two services, and Nintendo just released them both. Still, with the eShop finally merging the "shopping" and "ranking" functions for downloadable games, it's odd to see another offering split into two apps along arbitrary lines.

As is the trend for Nintendo now, this service is coming to Japan and Europe well before any news of an American release. It could show up here with the eShop update this Thursday, with content specific to the North American region ... or never.

We know that the prospect of capturing and exploiting demon's is a tough nut to wrap your mind around, but we're still amused by how perplexed everyone is in the Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked trailer posted above. Yeah, guys: There are demons. Get over it, already.

Tomita Technologies has filed a patent suit against Nintendo, alleging that the 3DS's stereoscopic display infringes upon Tomita's patent for "technology relating to displaying stereoscopic images on-screen for viewing with the naked eye, i.e., without utilizing glasses or other devices.," filed in 2003 and granted in 2008.

Nintendo is no stranger to these patent suits, with previous complaints claiming Nintendo infringed upon others' patents with Wii Fit, the GameCube and Classic Controllers, controller ports, and motion controls (Nintendo settled in that case).

We don't claim to be legal experts, but something seems off about this particular case from the outset: the screens are made by Sharp, not Nintendo.

Last year, Level-5 announced a 3DS version of its mobile game Kyaba Joppi, in which you play an employee of a hostess club, and interact with guests including famous anime characters. The developer announced a name change in the latest issue of Famitsu, which provides evidence of the (heavy-handed) intention to expand this version: it's called "Girls' RPG Cinderellife" now.

CEO Akihiro Hino told Famitsu that the original version is the most popular game on Level-5's mobile service ROID, "so I wanted to make it into a full RPG experience. If all the individual components work together, I think there's a chance it could become a big hit."

Cinderellife stars a country girl who comes to "Neo-Ginza" to hit it big. The game follows her career at a hostess club called The Castle; gameplay involves talking to the guests, having them order overpriced food from the club's menu, and leveling up based on your performance. The fact that you're probably thinking about how creepy hostess clubs sound right now (and not without justification) is why we don't expect to see this particular Level-5 creation outside of Japn.

Well, the 3DS had a good run. Of all the NES games to spend time and money remaking in 3D, Nintendo has chosen its worst first-party game as the third 3D Classics release. That's right, Urban Champion follows Excitebike and Xevious in the 3D Classics line, coming to the eShop in Japan July 13, for ¥600 ($7.40).

The 3D perspective change effect actually looks really cool, and there's local wireless multiplayer -- two new aspects that temporarily distract from the crumminess of Nintendo's 1984 fighter.

The same day, an unaltered retro game will also come to 3DS in Japan via Virtual Console: Adventure Island 2.
