Despite repeated, impassioned cries from our web-based pulpit, Arc System Works is sticking with the full name "BlazBlue Continuum Shift 2" for the European release on 3DS and PlayStation Portable this November. Blast!

The game's November 4 launch date was announced by the Japanese dev house and its European publishing partner, PQube, this morning, alongside a slew of new media. But considering the game came out last May in North America, there's a possibility you've already had your fill of video-based gameplay. You might have missed it yesterday, since it wasn't during the normal Nintendo downloadable game release day, but The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition is free to download right now on DSiWare (which is, of course, also accessible with the 3DS). If you've got friends to play with, it's a fun, bite-sized Zelda experience; if you don't, it's basically a really weird Zelda game where you don't get to keep your items.

Another Nintendo classic is available on 3DS today: Super Mario Land 2, which introduces Wario for the first time -- long before he starts his software company. And on WiiWare, escapeVektor: Chapter 1 combines Qix-style outline completion with a storyline about being trapped in a computer.

Nintendo also notes that new 3D trailers for Super Mario 3D Land, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Mario Kart 7, Luigi's Mansion 2, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, and Mario Tennis will be available on 3DS "soon," so watch all those Blue Man Group videos now to make sure you have time for these.

What, those 10 free NES games aren't tiding you over? Well Nintendo's got another present for you, 3DS owners, with today's free release of The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition. Oh, and this one benefits you too, DSi owners. In addition to the multiplayer-only content, of which the game was exclusively composed on the Game Boy Advance, Four Swords Adventures on the 3DS comes with a brand new single-player section.

Nintendo's weekly eShop update usually takes place on Thursdays in North America, so it's unclear whether the full update will arrive early today or if Four Swords will launch all by its lonesome (though the latter seems more likely as of now). As the game will only be available for a limited time (from today until Feb. 20, 2012), we can't help but wonder why you're not already downloading it. Get to it! It's free!

Another "3D Classic" is added to the 3DS lineup today -- and, thus, another entry in the small group of 3DS-exclusive downloadable games. 3D Classics: Twinbee is an update of Konami's vintage vertical-scrolling shooter. Expect bright colors and cute music, but not, for some reason, a widescreen presentation.

Conversely, WiiWare has a very 3D-oriented game displayed in 2D. It's a neat-looking platformer, Aya and the Cubes of Light, in which you explore all six sides of free-floating, cubic levels.

GameFly is putting on a strong face as it prepares for its greatest competitor to the game rental space to date: Netflix. Well, the behemoth's disc distribution division is called Qwikster now -- a change that's taking folks some time to wrap their brains around -- but the fact remains: Netflix's distribution network is an efficient beast. It is a key aspect GameFly has struggled with over the years.

"GameFly has expanded steadily over the past nine years by focusing exclusively on video gamers. We are the only retailer offering games physically and digitally for both rental and purchase," GameFly responded in a statement when asked about Qwikster. "Gamers can try before they buy, choosing from new releases and classic titles that span the last decade. GameFly has more than 8000 games for 10 console and handheld systems to choose from, and over 1500 Windows/Mac games are available for download."

GameFly is preparing for the digitally distributed future with acquisitions like Direct2Drive, which will allow the company to add "Unlimited PC Play" for free to its service offerings this holiday.

"GameFly is the leading video game rental service, and we have continued to grow even as
Blockbuster and Redbox increased their investment in console games."

Qwikster has yet to show how serious it is about the game space, nor has it given an idea about the price for its games 'n' flix service -- wait, that's probably not the best term to use.

#thelegendofzelda At the end of my visit with Nintendo this week, we were given some DSiXLs and set loose on The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition. (Good god, that title is a mouthful.) For those who haven't heard, it's an upgraded take on the classic GBA game, which was itself a portable version of Four Swords Adventures for GameCube. It will be available as free DsiWare for both the DSi and 3DS, and will cross-compatible between the two systems. Like the original, it's a four-player game, but it will also be playable solo. Monster Hunter Tri G, the updated 3DS adaptation that caused a collective "what" by inspiring the 3DS Slidepad, is on display at Capcom's TGS booth (but not playable with the peripheral).
