Mobile RPG Final Fantasy Agito will be localized, Square Enix recently revealed. Speaking with USGamer at the Tokyo Game Show, Square Enix's Hajime Tabata said the game "will definitely be localized." He quickly clarified that while the game will be translated to other languages, that doesn't guarantee its release in North America. A trademark for Final Fantasy Agito was recently filed in Europe, so some hope for a full localization exists.

Final Fantasy Agito will launch as a free-to-play iOS and Android game in Japan this Winter. The game is set in the world realized by Final Fantasy Type-0, a Japan-exclusive PSP game, and offers equipment obtained via microtransactions.

Final Fantasy XV looks to be a different-style entry for the series. That was originally the point when the game was still Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Even designer Tetsuya Nomura acknowledges that "Final Fantasy XV is the first action RPG in the series' numbered titles," but that doesn't mean it's not Final Fantasy.Read more...

Final Fantasy Agito's extensive stay in development hell is coming to an end this winter in Japan, but Square Enix recently filed a trademark for "Final Fantasy Agito" in Europe as well. The application is currently "under examination," but considering how trademarks sometimes into real things, Agito might have a chance at reaching European mobiles. You can see the trademark for yourself by searching for "Final Fantasy Agito" at the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market's website.

The game's recent teaser trailer offers a glimpse at characters and battles within the universe of the Japan-exclusive Final Fantasy Type-0. Agito will be free-to-play once it finally summons itself to iOS and Android devices in Japan.

This teaser trailer for Final Fantasy Agito doesn't give much away, so best to refresh what we do know about the mobile RPG: Agito is free-to-play, coming to iOS and Android this winter in Japan, and is set in the world of Japan-only PSP entry FF Type-0.

One thing this trailer reiterates, though, is the lack of news on Agito coming west. Type-0 famously stayed Japan-exclusive, so we have our doubts Agito will cross the ocean. On the other hand, major mobile FF games do tend to get localized, so perhaps there's hope.

Square Enix detailed its upcoming mobile RPG Final Fantasy Agito in this week's issue of Famitsu magazine, revealing that it will be released as a free-to-play app for iOS and Android in Japan this winter.

Set in the world of the Japan-exclusive PSP game Final Fantasy Type-0, Final Fantasy Agito casts players in the role of a customizable main character who can be outfitted with items purchased via microtransactions. Agito's storyline will feature multiple branching paths, and alternate story routes can be explored after each playthrough.

Famitsu reports that playtime will be divided between "solo play" and "team play" phases. Players will tackle missions based around individual characters in the game's solo component, while Agito's cast will assemble to battle bosses during team play segments.

A North American release for Final Fantasy Agito has not been announced.

This is a Deja Review: A quick, unscored look at the new features and relative agelessness of a remade, revived or re-released game. More than a decade before Disney Infinity hatched its brilliant scheme to squeeze all of the House of Mouse's properties under one roof, Square Enix took a try in its own inimitable fashion. The result was Kingdom Hearts - a bizarre marriage of Disney magic and Square's Final Fantasy characters, with a liberal dose of director Tetsuya Nomura's new designs thrown in for good measure. The series has gained fans at the intersections of both properties, and a healthy base of players who truly care about the trials of protagonist Sora and his associated Keyblade wielders.

I enjoyed the first Kingdom Hearts, which had an elegant simplicity that felt like a fairy tale who's-who as reinterpreted by Japanese fantasy tropes. While the fusion of third-person action and RPG mechanics was hit-or-miss, it worked well enough to carry me through the game and several of its sequels. I'll confess, though, that as the series has worn on, my interest has waned. If any criticism has dogged Kingdom Hearts most justifiably, it's that its internal myth-building has grown too complex and impenetrable for the casual fan. As the long wait for Kingdom Hearts 3 continues, Square Enix must have decided it's a good time for us all to take a step back and get our (Donald) ducks in a row. Hence, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix: a compilation of the three early stories in the KH chronology, detailing just about everything you need to know before the seemingly inevitable Kingdom Hearts 2 compilation paves the way for a proper sequel.

This winter Square Enix will debut Deadman's Cross, a free-to-play, mobile sequel to the recently-released Guardian Cross.

While Guardian Cross features fantasy characters and a top-down perspective, Deadman's Cross is set in the midst of the zombie apocalypse. Dubbed "Deadmen," these shambling corpses have taken over the world, and its up to you to hunt them down using a rifle, a deck of cards and a new first-person perspective. Killing Deadmen will add them to your deck allowing you to use them in future battles, though if Guardian Cross is any indicator, players will also be able to bolster their decks through the game's wide selection of microtransactions.

Deadman's Cross is slated for release on both Android and iOS platforms at some point this winter. Square Enix has promised a trailer for the game at this year's Tokyo Game Show and we expect more comprehensive details on Deadman's Cross to emerge at that point.

Square Enix will make amends to Final Fantasy loyalists who experienced difficulty logging in to its relaunched PC and PS3 MMO Final Fantasy 14 Online: A Realm Reborn with a free week of playtime, GameSpot reports.

In an announcement on Final Fantasy 14's community website The Lodestone, Square Enix explained that player demand for A Realm Reborn "significantly exceeded our initial estimates," pushing server load beyond maximum capacity. Login and character creation restrictions were introduced afterward, leaving many players unable to log in for days after the game's launch.

The free week of play will begin after a ten-hour maintenance period beginning at 5 PM (PDT) on September 3. During the downtime, Square Enix notes that it will increase the number of available worlds and concurrent server logins, while reducing stress on the Duty Finder servers.

"Because login and character creation restrictions have hindered our ability to provide quality service, all Final Fantasy 14 service accounts will receive an additional seven days of free play time," Square Enix said. "Furthermore, users who have yet to enter their registration codes will receive an additional seven-day trial should they register before 11:59 p.m. (PDT) on September 9, 2013."
