#thelegendofzelda Flipping through the Hyrule Historia book makes you realize that Nintendo's Legend of Zelda series isn't just a bunch of games. It's a mythology, one filled with personas that change their shapes, personalities and abilities in each new telling. More »

#thelegendofzelda For the last year or so, the Hyrule Historia seemed like a piece of the powerful and legendary TriForce. Fans of Nintendo's mega-popular series knew the Japan-only book existed. But English-speaking Zelda acolytes had to go through out-of-the-way means— like maybe-not-legal scans and fan translations—to get at its knowledge. Not anymore. More »

#thelegendofzelda Girl, ukelele, and The Legend of Zelda: a winning formula if I ever saw one. Here is a video of YouTuber HelloIamDanica, singing about why she should be Link's 'princess of destiny.' It's cute and charming—or, at least I chuckled when she says things like "even Ganon can't keep me away." More »

#showus Few video game series have music as iconic as The Legend of Zelda. Over sixteen years and more than a dozen games, Koji Kondo's memorable themes have been transposed, re-arranged, and re-imagined countless times. More »

#cosplay Zelda is more than a damsel in distress. She's more the namesake of The Legend of Zelda games. For fans, the magic-wielding princess is one of the most iconic Nintendo characters. Hence, all this cosplay! More »

#thelegendofzelda The Legend of Zelda cartoon from the late 1980s gave us a seemingly immortal joke with its "Well! Excuuuuuuse me, Princess!" catchphrase but it didn't feel a lot like the games it was based on. More »

#thelegendofzelda We've already shown an exclusive sneak peek of the English translation of the Hyrule Historia, which is due out next year. Now, Kotaku gives you a full look at the 35-page manga that's included in the Zelda hardcover. Drawn by Akira Himekawa—the collective nom de plume for artists A. Honda and S. Nagano—the story happens inside the mythology set up in last year's Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword game. More »

#zelda Taking the fragile wooden medium of many of the series' crappy first shields and mixing it with the design of later, badass Hylian shields, Brazilian craftsman Paulo Vinícius D. Horstma has made this beautiful piece of replica Zelda gear. More »

#thelegendofzelda Artistic interpretations of Nintendo's most popular fantasy swordsman run the gamut from burly and broad-shouldered to effing pissed to utterly horrifying. But these stripped-down paintings by Dave Palumbo represent a more grounded, pulp fantasy take on the Hero of Hyrule. More »

#skrillex Yeah, I know. Skrillex game channels The Legend of Zelda. Seems like it might be bad, or at least, haphazard. But as it turns out, Skrillex Quest, a new browser game, is really pretty cool. It comes as something less of a surprise considering that it comes from Jason Oda, the same guy who brought us that amazing Perfect Strangers game. More »

#secondquest Some people felt like Skyward Sword soared. Others felt like the latest entry in Nintendo's Legend of Zelda series was saddled with annoying issues. Even current steward Eiji Aonuma feels like changes may need to happen to the long-running franchise. While the impact of these mixed feelings on the next Zelda game is a long ways off, some good may come out of the response to Skyward Sword in the form of a very promising graphic novel. More »

#zelda Artist Lenqi imagines a classic Persian take on The Legend of Zelda. It deserves a round of applause. Not just for shaking up the setting (which to be fair, has in recent years gone both "pirate" and "cowboy"), but for how well it fits. I'm getting visions of a Zelda game with the visuals from 2008's Prince of Persia, and it's making me feel kinda funny. More »

#thelegendofzelda Serious Legend of Zelda fans in the West have treated Hyrule Historia something like a venerated text—and one in a language many of them couldn't read. Today, Dark Horse Comics announced that it at long last would be bringing an English-language version of the Zelda encyclopedia to North America, the UK and Australia. More »
