I snuck out to the NYC launch event for Super Mario 3D Land earlier today, which involved turning Times Square into a real-life Mario Bros. level! I did an hour live-stream, which has been recorded and posted below. Includes a special guest appearance by none other than Gary from Nintendo Week!

A portion of a VGB review...

To keep it short and simple, Super Mario 3D Land is a BLAST. Everyone who owns a 3DS will want to have this game in their collection. Is it a system seller? I don’t think so necessarily, but it is certainly one of, if not THE, best reason to own a 3DS.

A portion of a Eurogamer review...

You could wish for 3D Land to be a little more challenging in places, then, but you couldn't wish for it to be any denser, any more imaginative, or any more daring. Most importantly, you couldn't wish for it to be any more playful.

A portion of a CVG review...

Conflicted throughout, but still an undeniable 3DS achievement. Wait for it to get its act together and the game soars. Well, flutters.

#gutcheck Eight months after the 3DS' North American debut, Mario at last debuts on the handheld in Super Mario 3D Land. Nintendo is keen for a big hit to energize interest in the device, and they've put their best plumber on the job. Should you hire his services too? More »

There's nothing quite like the excitement of a new Mario game, is there? Nintendo fans have many franchises to follow, but Mario and his gang sit very high up on the list, if not taking the top spot. A system launch without a Mario game just doesn't feel right, and that's once again what happened with the 3DS. The reason many people pick up a platform just wasn't there, which is why millions have been holding off.

Now that day is just around the corner. Mario is gracing the 3DS for the first time with a brand-new adventure in a very classic style. This is the game that many are hedging their 3DS purchase on, but is it worth the wait? Does it show us the power of the 3DS? Is it a true system-seller?

Come on, now...you know Mario's main adventures always mean quality! Of course, this title is no different.
