Fresh news out of Comic-Con for zombie hunters and presidential-daughter-babysitting-simulator enthusiasts alike: the previously announced HD remakes of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X will be shambling and moaning onto US shores this September.

RE4HD lands on September 20, with Code Veronica X HD's charmingly incomprehensible plot following a week later on September 27. That's a few weeks after the far superior Japanese launch, not that we're bitter or anything. Both titles will be available at your local brick & mortar, through the PlayStation Network and as Xbox Live Games On Demand titles.

Much like the Achievements for Code Veronica X HD, the Achievements for Resident Evil 4 HD mostly revolve around story progression, save for two we're sure are going to give you a tough time. The "What are they worth?" and "The S stands for stylish!!" Achievements can be unlocked only after you acquire all bottlecaps and costumes, respectively.

Succeeding in that doubly tough endeavor will get you 250 Gamerscore (out of the possible 1,000). And if there's something more important than imaginary points tied to one platform, we don't wanna hear about it.

You've probably played Resident Evil: Code Veronica before. You might have played it on the Dreamcast, or the PS2. Heck, even the GameCube got in on the action. Those versions of the game, however, were all built on inferior technology and, this fall, Code Veronica X HD will raise the bar to a completely new level.

No, we're not talking about high definition visuals, we're talking about Achievements. Thanks to its status as a Games on Demand title, the Xbox 360 download of Code Veronica will receive the benefit of a full 1000 gamerscore. Most of the cheevos are story-driven, so it should be an easy bag of points.

Now, if only modern technology could do something about Steve...

Without looking, we'd like for you to tell us where all of your various and sundry Resident Evil games are located right now. Your copy of Resident Evil 4 is out of its box, lying face-up on the entertainment center? Code Veronica is in a box in the attic? Resident Evil 2 is in the oven? You clearly need a better way of keeping tabs on them -- like, for instance, having nearly all of the franchise's main entries enclosed in Capcom's recently announced 15th Anniversary Box.

The bundle, which will be available in Japan through e-Capcom this September, contains the three PSOne Resident Evils, Revival Selection (the HD remastering of RE4 and Code Veronica) and soundtracks for the two games in the Revival Selection.

Resident Evil 5 is not included in the package, but the Box does include a spacer in which to keep your copy. Voila! No more scratched, misplaced or broiled discs.

You've seen screens comparing the original Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica to their HD-ified remakes, but we've got something better today: moving pictures. Make with the clicking above to see some side-by-side comparisons in real-time.

If you're interested in the HD versions of Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica X included in the Resident Evil: Revival Selection, you'll be able to acquire them in an exceptionally convenient manner: through Xbox Live Arcade and PSN.

Capcom just announced that the two ports will be released as downloads in North America this fall -- as separate games, as opposed to the bundled release Capcom is planning for Japan. Check out more screens of the HD version of Resident Evil 4 in our gallery. Or just check out the logos for both games. Seriously. Look at those logos.

The official website for Capcom's Resident Evil: Revival Selection has launched, debuting a handful of screens showing how its constituent games (Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica) will look on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Check out these few screenshots in the gallery below, or hit up the official site for more info on the collection.

The difference isn't super clear, except in the comparison shot posted above -- though we can't help but wonder if the left, standard resolution side of that image is a poor representation of the original game. It's been a while since we played Resident Evil 4, but we don't remember ever yelling, "Oh, man, shoot that big gray thing with your ... gun? Is that a gun? It kind of looks like a cigar, and I don't think that's going to be very helpful in this particular scenario."

PFFFFSSSS!
Sorry, but that's the closest onomatopoeia we could come up with for the sound of confetti coming out of a giant cannon. What's the occasion? Why, it's the 1 millionth port of Resident Evil 4! It's a big honor, and it goes to Biohazard (Resident Evil): Revival Selection, a set of high-definition updates of RE 4 and Code Veronica, that Famitsu says is headed to 360 and PS3. According to Andriasang, the full title may be "Resident Evil Revival Selection HD Remastered Version," and fair warning: If we have to type that out in full every time, we'll never cover this game again.

The updates, which have only been announced for Japan at the moment, will feature RE 4's bonus Ada Wong scenario, "Separate Ways."

Dirk the Daring was unavailable as of press time to comment on the possibility of these upstarts shattering his record. That said, if any STARS agents come up missing, we'll make Singe's belly the first spot we check.

We're going to file this one under the "half rumor" category...
