Yes, the majority of you will probably be playing Halo 4 or Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on Xbox Live this week. This we know. But just in case you're looking for something else, Major Nelson has a whole list of new content on Xbox Live this week. Perhaps, for example, the new version of Atari's Warlords, available for 800 Microsoft Points. Or one of three new Kinect Sports games, for 240 points each, or an XBLA version of Targem Games' Planets Under Attack, for a full 1200 points.

There's a sale on, too: Carcassone, Catan, Magic: The Gathering, Magic 2012, Super Puzzle Fighter HD, and the two Puzzle Quest titles are all half off, for just 400 Microsoft Points each, and Ubisoft's I Am Alive is 33% off, down to 800 Microsoft Points. A downloadable course pack for Tiger 13 is as 50% off, and that's not all. Later on this week, Major Nelson says Microsoft will be hosting an "Xbox Live is 10" sale, which will include discounts on some content, as well as giveaways to some Xbox Live members "who have been with us the longest."

We mean, sure, it'll mostly be Halo 4 and Black Ops 2. But just in case, there's some good deals there, too.

Warlords, one of Atari’s original and celebrated arcade titles, is launching in updated form for the PlayStation Network today! We have a never-before-seen, exclusive launch trailer to show PlayStation.Blog readers right now. Enjoy!

I’m sure there are readers out there who’ve spent many hours in the arcades playing Warlords and other Atari games back in the 80s. With this new PSN version, we wanted to capture all the fast-paced, multiplayer fun that made the original a hit in its day. But as you’ll see, Warlords has been completely overhauled with a new identity for modern consoles, yet we really felt it important to keep it as true to the original as possible. As Nolan Bushnell used to say, Atari games are “simple to play, difficult to master.” I think you’ll find that to be the case with Warlords.

The core concept of the game remains the same as the original – defend your fortress while attacking others. You can play either cooperatively or competitively, defending your fort from attacks with up to three other players. Winning requires speed and strategy, as you’ll be forced to defend your stronghold by blocking fireballs with your shield while hurling your own fireballs towards your enemies and managing your troops, called Snoots. There are also offensive power-ups that you’ll need to overcome your challengers and take down their fortress walls.

The power-ups that you collect play a significant role in gaining the upper hand during battle: Castle Crusher immediately blows out a portion of your enemy’s walls; Slowed Shield reduces the opposing player’s shield speed temporarily; Extender increases your own shield’s size; and White Knight Shield potects your little Snoots from attack when the Black Knight’s troops show up.

In addition, there are multiple game modes to help keep the experience fresh over extended play, including single-player quick matches and campaign modes that are 1v1, 2v2 and free-for-all among four players in both online and local play mode. Fireballs can also be adjusted from 1-5 for each match. There’s also a “Classic” mode without Snoots, power-ups or the Black Knight.

The key to winning is in how you strategically use your Snoots to overcome opposing players. The Snoots are a versatile lot, and can provide additional support to fight your enemies, collect important power-ups, capture control points, banish the Black Knight, heal your walls, and destroy your enemy’s castle walls. With smart use of your Snoots, the game will quickly tilt in your favor.

In the end, we hope that old gamers of the original classic and new gamers alike are happy with what we’ve created. Visit PlayStation Store this afternoon to download the game when, and be sure to leave us some feedback. We’d love to know what you think!

We considered ourselves pretty good at the Atari 2600 version of Warlords, but that boast required only proficiency at swinging a paddle around to hit a ball into our opponents' corners. So we questioned the necessity for a "how to play" video for the update, until we watched it and remembered this update is ... an update.

This thing's got actual strategy in it! You have to lead a "Rally Snoot" character to a control point -- a control point! -- and then have him wait for another to arrive in order to capture it. You can boost the shields around your castle, and even aim shots. In other words, there's stuff do do other than frantically moving a paddle around to deflect a single giant pixel.

Warlords is another take on a long-iterated idea first released in 1980. Known for its frantic 4-player action, the original game jumped from Arcade to Atari to Amiga to Xbox Live and now returns with a fresh coat of paint...

The constituent elements in the latest batch of screenshots for Atari's Warlords remake are just what you'd expect: Castles, tiny soldiers and more fireballs than could possibly be numbered by anyone, even if they're using some kind of sophisticated fireball-counting apparatus.

There's already an HD version of Atari's classic Warlords on XBLA, but one remake isn't enough to fully explore the possibilities of Warlords' four-player competitive Breakout concept. Atari is giving the vintage combat game a more significant upgrade for an XBLA/PSN version, due this summer.

While the "Evolved" version found in the previous XBLA release was just HD window dressing for the same game, this adds new elements -- like troops, who will gather powerups and fight each other on the screen even as you're trying to bounce fireballs into enemy castle walls. So it's kind of a strategy game now. It also includes multiple local and online multiplayer moves.

Honestly, if we're going to see one game remade frequently, we're happy it's this one. Now if only our modern consoles had paddle controllers.
