Both Starwhal: Just the Tip and Windborne recently landed on Steam's Early Access service yesterday. Windborne, a sandbox adventure game from Counter Stike: GO and Defense Grid 2 developer Hidden Path Entertainment, is 20 percent off ($23.99) on the service until February 24.

Starwhal, the narwhal fencing game set in outer space, earned $24,450 CAD ($22,294 USD) on Kickstarter in late December. The game comes from indie developer Breakfall, who will bring the game to PC, Mac, Linux, Wii U and PS4. Breakfall is hoping to carry Starwhal over to Ouya and Xbox One as well. As for Hidden Path, the developer is also partnering with Harmonix to create the recently-revealed Chroma, a free-to-play rhythmic FPS. [Image: Hidden Path Entertainment]

Drox Operative is Now Available on Steam!
Drox Operative is a starship action RPG with warring alien races, fierce space battles, a dynamic, evolving galaxy, and co-op multiplayer for Windows and Mac.

Eons ago the Drox ruled the galaxy through their mighty Operatives. These elite starship captains were trained to accomplish the impossible at whatever cost necessary. Whether employing stealth or brute force, they were always deadly. Using these Operatives, the Drox built a starlane system for quick travel amongst the stars, colonized and conquered millions of planets, and ruled the galaxy with an iron grip for over 100,000 years. Eventually realizing their Operatives were a threat, they attempted to assassinate all of them. They failed. The following Galactic Civil War was devastating.

Thousands of years later, the Drox are extinct, but the secretive Drox Operative guild lives on. They have learned their lesson though: loyalty to any one race is foolish. They now work for whoever can pay. And pay they do! Empires might span hundreds of planets and thousands of ships, but when a critical task arises, they still turn to an Operative.

In the new space race, the major races are scouting, colonizing, and expanding, trying to take over the galaxy by diplomacy, technology, war, or any other means their scheming minds can contemplate.

As a Drox Operative it's NOT your job to manage all of those annoying people, build thousands of buildings, play nice with your enemies, or balance the budget. It IS your job to pick the winning side and maybe even help them conquer the galaxy if you're being nice, more importantly though is to rake in as many credits as possible, well that and build the coolest, deadliest ship in the known universe. Not many screw with an Operative captaining a Dreadnaught!

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is newly available on the realm of Steam, and the MMO is going for half-price at $15/£10/12.49 euros until February 25. That discount also applies to the Collector's Edition, which adds various in-game bonuses; it's reduced to $25/£17.49/20 euros. As with all versions, new accounts receive a 30 day trial of free game time.

The second edition of Square Enix's flagship MMO (re)launched on Windows PC and PS3 in August 2013, and went on to accumulate more than 1.5 million registered accounts within two months. Expect those figures to rise considerably when it comes to the PS4 on April 11 on the back of two beta phases, the first of those launching alongside the system's arrival in Japan on Friday, February 22. GunZ 2: The Second Duel is Now Available on Steam Early Access and is free to play!

Rediscovery of action shooting! We present to you GunZ 2: the Second Duel. GunZ 2 is an online action shooting game. GunZ 2 provides a whole new user experience that players have never seen from other games.

HB Studios' socially-driven golf simulator The Golf Club will launch for PC through Steam. The developer announced the news on its blog and says that after a closed beta on PC, The Golf Club will be made available as an Early Access game.

The Golf Club, launching on PS4, Xbox One and PC this spring, features a social hub where players can share the game's procedurally-generated golf courses. Included editing tools will allow players to tweak those courses, and they can even create and share custom tournaments through the social hub.

Tower of Guns, a first-person shooter with randomized levels and roguelike elements, is due out for PC on March 4 via Steam, GOG and the game's website, at a 33 percent discount ($10). Developer Joe Mirabello formerly worked on the Amalur MMO at 38 Studios, before that company collapsed. When we talked with him last year, he described Tower of Guns as a mashup of Doom 2 and The Binding of Isaac, and "as far away from a secretive, big-budget MMO as you can get."

Tower of Guns allows players to customize 18 different guns with 12 wild mods to create combos such as a rocket launcher that sprays a bunch of rockets with each trigger pull, or a gun that shoots a purple bubble to trap and explode enemies, as shown in the newest trailer. Ground Pounders is Now Available on Steam Early Access!

Ground Pounders is a hex-based, turn-based strategy wargame. Inspired by classic strategy games like Panzer General, and steeped in the lore of the Sword of the Stars universe, Ground Pounders offers a new generation of gamers an updated taste of turn-based strategic warfare. Best of all, you can play it cross platform between desktop machine and mobile devices.

Ground Pounders lets players control an army from one of three factions. Each army is comprised of dozens of different unit types. You will lead your ground pounders across a variety of worlds, increase their experience levels and abilities over the course of three campaigns, and use them to unlock special action cards that can add special effects to single-player games, or to up the stakes in your cross-platform multi-player battles.

Oh, Valve. I’d like it so very much if we lived in the world you seem to wishfully inhabit. Power to the people! It’s a wonderfully idealistic goal, but there’s just one problem with it: the Internet mutates far too many people into hideous trolls, and they use their powers to make the world a viler, more putrid place. I’m not as against democratization of game development/sales as, say, John, but I do think there need to be serious checks in place to prevent rampant misuse and willful idiocy. It is, then, good to see Valve sort of moving in that direction with Steam Tags. Doubtless, Steam needs to beef up discoverability for its increasingly labyrinthine library, but easily abused tags initially turned the feature into a giant joke. Valve’s solution? A community driven report function, naturally.
