It bothers me that I am so uptight about the Assassin’s Creed games. They look utterly fabulous, they’re all lovely and open and alive, and then that ridiculous memory-world techno-gibberish claptrap drags me right back out of them. Why did they do it? Why not use that amazing tech to make a perfectly good historical action game? I should grit my teeth and get past it, but I just can’t. Every time I encounter that nonsense I just want to slap someone.

See if you can spot the point at which I did a big sigh in this (otherwise spectacular) Assassin’s Creed: Revelations footage.(more…)

Hello PlayStation Assassins!

With the Electronic Entertainment Expo (or E3, for those in the know) wrapping up this week, we thought it might be nice to give you a quick round-up of the video content we’ve released for Assassin’s Creed Revelations. During the show, we’ve revealed a great many secrets surrounding ACR, detailing a wide variety of new gameplay features as well as delving deeper into the storyline of this essential piece of Ezio’s final adventure. We even had several multiplayer “pods” set up, both at our Ubisoft booth as well as at the Sony PlayStation booth, to enmesh show attendees in our innovative multiplayer (and show off a handful of the planned improvements we’re working on). So, without further ado, take a look below to see what Assassin’s Creed Revelations has in store!

This gorgeous trailer outlines the basic premise of Assassin’s Creed Revelations. During the trailer, we see Ezio travelling a great distance in order to reach Masyaf in the hopes of uncovering the secrets of Altair. When Ezio arrives, he is confronted by Templars… and the rest is in the video!

This video is the identical single-player walkthough that E3 attendees were able to see at the show! Demonstrating many new features in Assassin’s Creed Revelations, including upgraded Eagle Vision, Ezio’s new hook blade and the Greek Fire cannon, this walkthrough is intended to give you a tiny taste of the excitement and game mechanics you can expect from the game!

Following the traumatic events of Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Desmond has a lot to figure out… so much, in fact, that he must take a journey deep into his subconscious. We’d like to say more, but it wouldn’t be much of a Teaser if we gave up all the secrets.

See you all again soon Assassins!
Gabe

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood's addition of multiplayer was a unique and refreshing way to kill strangers online. But matches were plagued by foolish souls who'd take the cheap route by running directly to their target and executing them for a minor collection of points. The buffoons wouldn't use the full extent of stealthy prowess and would ruin matches outright. Assassin's Creed Revelations aims to change that by coaxing players with small bonuses to play smarter...

There were so many RPS news posts yesterday! What was going on in my absence? This is like coming into work as a mechanic and finding repaired cars not just in the car park, but on the roof, in the basement, balanced on top of lamp posts.

To business. I have lots of great headlines that might benefit this ICE-cool new trailer for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (“Some More Mr. Knife Guy”, “Cool Runnings”), but I can’t use any of them because the game’s title is too long. That’s going to be a theme today, isn’t it? Ah well.(more…)

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations has information to spill. As we rejoin Ezio Auditore, running around Constantinople, this November it’ll be time to kick some Templar arse. And so far, Ubisoft are saying that includes the PC, although history suggests there’s the possibility that could change. What we know so far, some brand new screenshots, and a the first teaser trailer, are below.

After introducing a unique new multiplayer component in the last Assassin's Creed entry, developer Ubisoft Montreal has plans to make the mode more meaningful in the next AC title, Assassin's Creed: Revelations. In a recent Game Informer piece, four of the game's multiplayer characters -- the vanguard, the guardian, the bombardier, and the sentinel -- are introduced, each with specific ties to the game's main single-player story.

The guardian is a member of the Templars, calling himself the "Guardian of Truth," and plays an unknown role in the forthcoming game. The sentinel is more fleshed out, with Ubisoft revealing to GI that he is a former Assassins Guild member who defected after the Ottoman Empire and the Assassins reached a truce; he'll be seeking revenge at some point during the main campaign. The last two remaining characters -- the bombardier and the vanguard -- are similarly of Templar loyalty, lured in by money and power.

How all of these folks factor into Ezio's final adventure remains to be seen, but each will show up in both the main campaign as part of the story and in multiplayer as playable characters. If Brotherhood is any indication, though, we'll see another half dozen characters added to the mix sometime before launch this November.

Poor old Ubisoft has taken a few money-knocks, admit its latest financial results, which involved a $74.1m / £45.5m loss for the last fiscal year. This has, sadly, led to the cancellation of several unnamed games – everyone’s praying it’s not Beyond Good & Evil 2, but it’ll probably be a while until we find out what definitely faced the axe. However, a piece of good news for RPS-types is that the reorganisation (which is a word that sounds like it’s positive but actually means lay-offs, closures and cancellations) resulting from these bad times has lead to Ubi looking more confidently at the PC as a gaming platform…(more…)
