The Call of Duty Elite app has been updated on iOS and Android to support this week's monolithic debut, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. You can use the app to check your career stats and recent match performances, edit your classes, and search for and apply to Clans - pretty much the same stuff you can do with the app via Modern Warfare 3.

You can also use it to stream Call of Duty Elite TV, access multiplayer guides, and track challenges. The iOS app is universal and compatible with all iDevices running iOS 5.0 or greater; however, the app does not have iPhone 5 screen support.

COD ELITE To Reach PC After All, Apparently

Good news – after yesterday’s surprise that Call Of Duty ELITE developers, Beachhead, had implied there was a good chance we’d not see a PC version of the multiplayer tools, the team have taken back to the Twitters (cheers, Chris) to put right what once went wrong. Last night they explained that they “misspoke”.

“We misspoke. [See? - Ed] Our goal has always been to provide a free PC offering for ELITE. Stay tuned for an update as timing is still being determined.”

It’s still perhaps not all that impressive, since it was supposed to accompany a game released eight days ago, and there’s still not even a vague deadline for when they think they’ll have it sorted. But at least those who bought MW3 on the understanding that it would work with ELITE, will have something to look forward to. So come on, ignore the braying of those who haven’t even tried it, are you enjoying MW3′s multiplayer on PC?

It’s looking like Call Of Duty ELITE may never arrive on PC at all, according to Eurogamer. After it was announced earlier this month that the multiplayer-embellishing feature would be absent from the PC release, along with lots of promises that this was to ensure it was tip-top quality and completely safe, it’s now looking possible we’ll never get to use it.

Elite, the social network/video-making/DLC-flogging wrapper for Call of Duty due to launch with Contemporary Fighting Techniques 3 later this month, won’t be turning up on PC at the same time as the game itself. Why? It’s because you’re so insecure. And so you should be, with that nose. Oh, sorry, I’ve got it wrong – it’s because the devs think the PC’s insecure. That’s not an insult, calm down. They’re just worried about cheaters hacking the system: the precious statistics must be protected!(more…)

"Connect" allows players to network with one another in a number of different ways, and provides a social network for players to communicate. "Compete" lets players set up their own brackets and tournaments, or compete for prizes in Activision-sponsored official events. Usually, we think of making first-person shooter videos as the domain of dorm dwellers with too much time and not enough party invitations or, well, that chocolate milk kid. But, as you know, Activision has talked about bringing some actual adults into the field with Call of Duty Elite video content. Now we've gotten our first peek at that roster of "Hollywood talent," which includes Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and directors Ridley Scott (as in Blade Runner) and Tony Scott. Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg revealed the names while speaking at the Pacific Crest Global Technology Leadership Forum.

As reported by USA Today, Hirshberg said, "Just like any other passion that people spend a lot of their free time doing, Call of Duty players share a common language and a common experience and we think we can create some entertainment content that they will love and talk about and share."

We're assuming USA Today accidentally left "on YouTube" off at the end there.

Call of Duty Elite, the social networking/clan-organising thingy for COD multiplayer, got a whole lot of backs up when it was unveiled the other week – the prevailing, Chinese-whispered sense being that we’d be expected to fork out to get the full CoD multiplayer experience. With the waters very much muddied, Activision seem to be in fire-fighting mode – now explicitly stating just what will be free. Activision also reckon that “we believe that the free elements of Call of Duty Elite will be superior to any free service currently on the market.”

Oh, and they just called you a hater.(more…)
