#terarising Remember back in our big role-playing games of E3 2011 article, when I called out Bluehole Studios' TERA Online for its fast-paced combat and larger-than-life enemies? Here's a video that explains what I was talking about. More »

Couldn't make it out to LA for E3? Don't sweat it -- the LA Times has posted a pretty neat time-lapse video from the first day of the show. For that authentic feel, we'd suggest drenching your clothes in sweat and spraying yourself with some funky odor first before hitting the play button.

American Wii owners who've looked lustfully at some acclaimed Japanese Wii games will have to lust some more. During a wide-ranging interview with Kotaku, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said he had "nothing to announce" regarding whether role-playing games Xenoblade and The Last Story as well as action game Pandora's Tower would be coming to North America. They could, the could not. He had no news on that. Sorry, folks. We'll have much more from Fils-Aime in the coming days. More »

Telltale Games was staying fairly tight-lipped about its upcoming episodic release based on the Walking Dead TV series and graphic novel. What we do know is that the game won't retell the TV and comic's story of lawman Rick Grimes and his quest to reunite with his family in the wake of the zombie apocalypse.

The game will follow Lee Everett, a criminal loosed from his police escort after it runs into an erstwhile zombie. Everett will unite with a seven-year-old girl named Clementine who Telltale says will provide a sort of moral compass for the convict.

As Rick Grimes tries to make his way into Atlanta, Lee and Clementine are trying to make their way out, which means they'll cross paths with established series characters like Lilly and Glenn.

We know, we know, it's not a lot to go on. But as fans who weren't exactly thrilled at the prospect of watching Rick track down his wife and son yet again, Telltale's approach definitely seems like the right direction.

#controllers Mike got to use Power A's slightly shrinkified controllers back in January—the PS3 and Xbox models are fine, but it's the 20 percent smaller, totally rubberized Wii remote that's a surprise dynamo. And it lasts longer than before, with AA batteries replacing last year's AAA. More »

It didn't make it onto Nintendo's stage presentation, or really any kind of announcement, but many of you have probably already solved the puzzle of whether Nintendo is localizing Professor Layton and the Last Specter for DS. Imagine us pointing our finger dramatically when we say ... it is!

Nintendo quietly released a trailer and screens for the localized fourth entry, the first of a new trilogy set before the three games that have already come out. The media does not include anything about the "London Life" RPG, a Brownie Brown-developed Layton RPG unlocked at the end of the Japanese release of this game. But let's be optimistic and assume Nintendo hasn't removed that great-looking bonus.

Animal Crossing is one of those Nintendo series, like Pokemon, that progresses glacially. If anything is a little different from a previous game, it's a big deal -- and, frankly, puts us on edge a little. Just because we're really used to spending a lot of time in there.

For the new 3DS edition, Nintendo went in and taught the lil' avatars to swim. You can now go into the water! And even more earth-shattering(ly adorable), you can hang out on a bench with your animal neighbors. Check out what's new in town with our gallery, and with the video after the break. Ah, don't ever change (too much at once), Animal Crossing.

Code guru, hobbyist rocket scientist and co-founder of iD Software John D. Carmack has been tracked down at E3 by CVG, and they were rewarded by a rather excellent twenty minute interview. How’s your keyboard? Old? Stinky? Are there so many crumbs under the keys that you can barely type, and when you can it sounds like somebody eating biscuits?

Well, Razer’s just announced a new range of PC peripherals branded around upcoming MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic, and… well, it’s not like I can tell you whether they’re any good. They’ve only just been announced. But they’re certainly the most ludicrous bits of kit I’ve seen in a while, so top marks there. You’ll find the trailer after the jump. Yes, a trailer. For a keyboard.(more…)

Earlier in the week I managed to have a chat with Bohemia boss Marek Spanel and one of the games he talked about was this: Take On Helicopters. It’s a civilian helicopter sim set at first in Seattle, and then on a more global stage. The game uses the Arma 3 engine, and a fresh take on the dev’s helicopter handling and controls. It will be an in-depth sim, but should be a little more accessible than you might expect, too. It’s about commercial competition, and managing a helicopter firm in tough times. For a game that features limited explosions or man-shootings, it’s looking fairly interesting.

My interview with Marek – which discusses this, Carrier Command, and Arma 3, will appear on Monday. You can check out the Take On Helicopters E3 teaser – which inevitably just features shots of a helicopter – below.(more…)

I’ll tell you what looks good. King Arthur 2 looks good. The sequel to 2009′s fantasy “role-playing wargame” (see our review here), King Arthur 2 sounds like it’ll be that most noble of gaming sequels- taking everything that we liked about the first game, and gently tightening it up and making it that much bigger. None of this trying to appeal to a broader audience or revolutionise things. Just taking that great idea, and making it even stronger. And, in this case, adding a crapload of dragons. I’m talking about dragons blocking out the sun. You’ve got to see this.(more…)

Trackmania 2′s E3 Canyon trailer (below) is even more insane than the last one. Ludicrous sense of speed, ludicrous cartoon physics, ludicrous spewing of cars over vertiginous chasms, ludicrous ludicrousness. If this is genuinely representative of the kind of game we can expect from Nadeo’s latest, then I will be a happy racer. Go take a look.(more…)

In the grim darkness of the future, there is only Warhammer 40k MMORPG Dark Millenium Online. No, seriously- I’m not sure that there’s another game we’ve been posting about this E3 week with a release date as far off as 2013. Curiously, this (brief) trailer brands the game as a “Massively Multiplayer Online Action Experience”, and when I had a brief chat with the developers at Gamescom last year I do remember them talking about how they were developing some revolutionary new kind of combat. Hmm. Will this be the first massively multiplayer 3rd person shooter? Only time will tell. So, so much time.(more…)
