As we get closer to the launch of Darksiders II, we will be revealing a few special features within the game here on Darksiders.com. Today we would like to introduce the functionality of the Tome system.

The Tomes are Darksiders II in-game emailing system. You can send your friends messages, and also attach up to 4 pieces of armor or weapons to each mail to trade or share items. When you attach an item to a message, it’s removed from your game and delivered to theirs.

We’ve just released the first all-gameplay trailer for Darksiders II, which sees the most feared of the horseman of the apocalypse, Death, going up against some of the creatures from the game. The Ancient. The Corrupted. The Holy. The Damned… Death comes for all.

The trailer shows off several key characters from the game, but we wanted to provide additional context as the game marches towards its August 14th release date.

Death
Like his fellow Horsemen, Death is of a race known as Nephilim – among the most powerful beings in the Universe. When mankind received the prize of Eden, Absalom – leader of the Nephilim – led his armies against Heaven and Hell in an attempt to steal it back. For this crime, the Charred Council condemned the Nephilim to destruction. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse were granted a reprieve from this fate on the condition they aid the Council’s victory over their kin. The Horsemen accepted, but it was Death who bore the greatest burden of guilt for the near extinction of his race. Donning his iconic mask to represent his role as executioner on the day he slaughtered his brethren, he has not removed it since.

Dust
Death’s trusty sidekick is a bird of unknown origins, neither living nor dead. Dust will aid Death as he navigates the treacherous dungeons and explores the expansive overworld of Darksiders II.

Despair
Despair is Death’s loyal steed. Unlike the first Darksiders’ Ruin, players will have access to their mount near the beginning of the game. This will give them the power early on to use Despair’s combat abilities in open spaces, and to travel faster between different areas in the overworld.

Crowfather
Dark and mysterious, the Crowfather is a keeper of secrets. Like all things pertaining to the Crowfather, his race and origin are a mystery—though some believe him to be Nephilim as the Horsemen are. The Crowfather is sagely, lacking in patience and humour, but possessed of an ancient wisdom and knowledge of things forgotten… or best forgotten. Though he resembles an old weathered crone, the Crowfather’s mastery of arcane arts makes him a powerful force. His crow minions are fiercely protective, giving their very lives to strengthen his magic, or to defend against any threat.

Maker Elder
The oldest of the Old Ones, the Elder is withdrawn and contemplative. He moves and speaks slowly, with great wisdom and a sense of inner peace. As time progresses, his tone begins to reflect great sorrow. He has seen the end of all things, and knows that the march toward this inescapable fate has already begun. Death’s appearance in their world is unexpected, however, and the Elder sees it as an omen — or at the very least, an unexpected wrinkle that may change the course of fate.

Darksiders II comes to PlayStation 3 on August 14th in the US.

At a recent event in Dublin I got the chance to play the first few hours of the apocalyptic action-adventure, Darksiders II. It’s not really important that it was in Dublin, but it adds flavour. You can now imagine the Liffey drifting slowly by as I got all wrapped up in the first few moments of Death’s adventure. An adventure I realised was rather derivative, but also that there’s nothing wrong with that.

I don't know what it says about the current state of video game marketing that an all-gameplay trailer feels somehow refreshing. Oh well, at least it's a cool trailer.

Whatever gripes a lowly hack like Jim Rossignol might have thrown at the original Darksiders game, there was no denying that it was spectacular and handsome. That hasn’t changed for the next game, the cleverly titled Darksiders II, which casts its web of hypnotic fantasy violence our way in a two minute slice of (mostly) in-game footage, below. I really do like a) the classically demonic demon, and b) that giant stone bastard at the end. Yeah, that’s the stuff.(more…)

Darksiders II is the next major release from THQ, and one that will need to perform well for THQ.

Though THQ is far from in the clear, one headache has been removed: the threat of being delisted on the NASDAQ stock market.

The publisher announced this morning it had maintained $1.00 per share price during last 10 business days, meaning it’s no longer on NASDAQ’s watch list. "Phew," said THQ management. Probably.

THQ made some moves lately, including a 1-to-10 reverse stock split, that helped make this happen.

The Street has an informative article on why a NASDAQ delisting is bad for all parties involved, including the one case where it could be a good thing: the company make that decision on its own.

“Still, as a shareholder, having your company delisted can have severe effects on your portfolio. Obviously, most companies that are delisted were in dire straits to begin with, but the act of delisting can actually force their stock prices to decrease further.

While the intrinsic value of the stock hasn't changed since the day before the stock was delisted, the very fact that it was ejected from its exchange is enough to make the market factors push its price even further below water. That stock that you once paid your hard-earned cash for is likely pretty close to worthless now.”

The weight on Darksiders II’s shoulders to perform well next month is even greater now.

The idea of feeding lesser blades to your blades to make your blades more deadly is kind of awesome.

#darksiders I'd sure love to play a kickass game based on Skeletor. That may not be an option right now, but fortunately there's Vigil's upcoming Darksiders II, whose protagonist Death looks a fair bit like He-Man's blue-hooded nemesis. More »
