LittleBigPlanet PS Vita: Team Picks

This week, we have two new LittleBigPlanet PS Vita: Team Picks. They’re both a couple of great levels that you should download today!

The first one is Another Flora by ZecoCOcoZza. If you wonder why silhouette levels are so popular, play this level. There are few silhouette levels on LittleBigPlanet PS Vita as good as Another Flora.

The title of the second TeamPick pretty much tells you all you need to know. You play as a flying purple monster and eat skydivers to earn points. Sounds quite simple, and it is, but it is also a lot of fun!

LittleBigPlanet 2: Mm Picks

Heading over to LittleBigPlanet 2, we have a great selection of new Mm Picks for you, which include a fantastic running and gunning arcade game, a new platform adventure that sees Sackboy clambering through lots and lots of pipes, and finally, we have a simply addictive balancing game that will truly test your patience.

GunRun sees you taken on the role of a gunner as he continually runs across the screen shooting at a constant barrage of upcoming bad guys to survive for as long as you can and score big against all other challenges.

Like Stardust has Sackboy going through pipes on his latest platforming jaunt. Be careful though! You will have to work hard to ensure that the pipes you’re climbing through are heading to a place that you actually want to go to.

Your final challenge this week is the simply addictive Balance! It’s just Sackboy, a pair of Grabinators, a lot of boxes and a simple walk… How hard could that possibly be?

Jump over to LBP.me and queue up these new LittleBigPlanet 2: Mm Picks!

For those of you eagerly salivating over new adventures for Sackboy on the PS Vita … well, you need drool no longer! We are delighted to announce a brand new game add-on for LittleBigPlanet PS Vita; the Marvel – Arcade Pack!

8591081638_4f7ea78cd8_z.jpg

The Marvel – Arcade Pack contains three fantastic new games, each of which will challenge you in very different ways. In Hero Rush, you’ll team up with three of your favourite Marvel heroes — such as Iron Man, Spider-Man, or Thor — and try to survive for as long as you can. Shoot for high score heroics by avoiding plasma beams, rockets, and all sorts of obstacular trickery. Of course, obstacular isn’t a real word, but you should never let a dictionary get in the way of your Marvel heroics!

In the mind-bending puzzler Avengers: Ultimate Escape guide several Marvel heroes, including Hulk, Captain America and many more, through a deadly maze. The cool thing about this game is that the challenges you face will be completely different depending on the hero you choose!

And last, but by no means least, we have S.H.I.E.L.D. – Interceptor! Take control of the Quinjet and blast your way through wave after wave of the invading Chitauri hordes. Don’t forget to pick up coins along the way to unlock new weapons in The Vault..

Of course, it wouldn’t be a LittleBigPlanet level pack without a whole host of new create assets to play with and bring your own creations to life! By collecting coins in the arcade games, you can unlock over a hundred new stickers, dozens of decorations, sound effects, and three new interactive music tracks.

The Marvel Arcade Pack will be available on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 for $4.99, exclusively for LittleBigPlanet PS Vita. Be there, or we’ll send Hulk round to convince you!

What the Critics are Saying

LittleBigPlanet PS Vita is already a smash success with critics. It’s currently sitting at the top of the charts on Metacritic and the reviews have been sacktastic!

G4TV – 4.5/5
“LittleBigPlanet PS Vita takes the solid platforming from the PlayStation 3 releases and pairs [it] wonderfully with the Vita’s touch controls. The ease of level creation and beautiful visuals make LittleBigPlanet PS Vita the best LBP title to date.”

GameSpot– 8.5/10
“The Vita version of LittleBigPlanet is the best yet, and makes great use of touch and tilt controls to boot.”

PCMag (Editor’s Choice) – 4.5/5
“This is easily the best version of LittleBigPlanet yet, with more creation tools than ever. It looks just as good as it did on the PS3, and the extensive options promise no end of levels and even full games from the community.”

New York Post – A
“This is a joyful, creative game… if you don’t smile when you’re playing, something’s broken in your brain.”

Now, it’s time for the community to speak. We can’t wait to hear what you think of the title, but more importantly, we can’t wait to see what you create! Hi everyone – production on LittleBigPlanet PlayStation Vita was completed earlier than expected, and due to the excitement from our retail partners, some have decided to put it on shelves as soon as the product was received. You’ll still be able to fully enjoy all the offline features of the game until that time, but the servers will not go live until September 18th. We apologize for any confusion this may cause and will keep you posted on any further updates.

It’s time. Time to reveal the LittleBigPlanet PS Vita release date! The game will be available in North America on Tuesday, September 25th. That’s right, in just a few short weeks you’ll experience Sackboy’s next adventure, set on the mysterious traveling planet of Carnevalia.

We’ve put together a featurette video for the game, which you can watch up at the top of this post. The video will tell you a little bit more about LittleBigPlanet Vita’s story.

Thanks to PS Vita’s unique features, you’ll be able to play completely new game experiences and share your levels with the world wherever you are and whenever you feel like it. You can take pictures of anything you see while you’re out and about, and use them to decorate Sackboy or customize your level. It’s never been easier to make your cat or dog the hero of your level!

By the way, it’s not too late to pre-order the game and get some bonus BioShock or Knights of Old costumes.

Starting today, LittleBigPlanet fans will be able to pre-order the upcoming PS Vita installment of the game, and those who do will get themselves a snazzy set of bonus costumes as a big thank you! The bonus costumes include the iconic Big Daddy and Little Sister from BioShock, as well as new Knights of Old costumes to dress up your Sackboy or Sackgirl as a knight, damsel in distress, black knight, or a fearsome dragon. The details of this offer will vary depending on which country you live in or where you pre-order from, but here are some pictures of the costumes to whet your appetite.

Pretty cool, right? What’s especially neat is that the particular colors of these pre-order Knights of Old costumes will remain exclusive forever!

In other news, as you might have heard E3 took place last week in sunny Los Angeles. We had a great time showing off LittleBigPlanet PS Vita to everyone who came by and got an amazing response. Here’s what a few media outlets had to say.

Editor’s Choice – Polygon (winner)
Best Vita Game – IGN (nomination)
Best Platforming Game – IGN (nomination)
Best Sony Exclusive – Digital Trends (nomination)
Best Handheld Game – Digital Trends (nomination)
Best Portable Game – Destructoid (nomination)

Polygon said: “Creating is just… more fun than it has been, effectively turning fingerpainting into a method of drawing tangible platforms and objects in the environment.”

IGN was really impressed by the Memoriser, which is just one of the many new features of the game: “[LittleBigPlanet PS Vita] could be the gateway to infinite PlayStation Vita games. It’ll create an App Store for the Vita where all the games are free and can be uploaded and downloaded via 3G.”

At the top of this page, you can check out the new trailer for the game we showed off at E3. You can also watch our live demo with the PlayStation.Blog team here. Finally, here’s a video of a demo we gave the Los Angeles Times at the convention.

It may be hard to believe, but when we see titles behind closed doors, things don't always go the way they're supposed to. When I sat in on a short demo for LittleBigPlanet on the PlayStation Vita earlier this afternoon here in Cologne, Germany, things certainly didn't go as planned. There were mino...

I've played several gimmicky PS Vita games, but LittleBigPlanet takes advantage of the system's abilities without crossing that line. I don't want to throw grenades in Resistance by tapping a touch screen, nor do I want to climb in an Uncharted game by touching the front screen. But because LittleBi...

I've been waiting to play the game that makes me fall in love with the PlayStation Vita's bells and whistles. Sound Shapes is awesome -- a really unique idea -- but I feel like it could be done on any platform. I love Nathan Drake and am thrilled to have Uncharted: Golden Abyss, but most of the segm...
