#farcry Far Cry 3 features a varied and highly enjoyable arsenal—you'll use all the first-person shooter staples, from silenced sniper rifles to grenade launchers to my favorite, the silent Rambo bow. But as cool as these deadly tools are, the way the game describes them all is just as cool. More »

The only thing better than creating something and sharing it with the world is tearing it all down. In Far Cry 3, you can create both multiplayer maps and single-player sandbox environments, populated with your choice of wildlife and landmarks.

#farcry Among the many things I like about the wonderful Far Cry 3, one of the most remarkable is how polished it all is. This is an ambitious, massive game, so it's all the more noteworthy that everything works so well. More »

#farcry Far Cry 3 is a really, really good game. One of the year's best, I'd wager. I've had so much fun with it that I'm playing it again, just for the heck of it, and shooting for 100% completion. More »

#review Here's what happened: I was soaring above a gorgeous tropical island in a hang-glider when I heard gunfire below. Waaaay down on the road below, a gang of friendly islanders was going toe-to-toe with a band of ruthless pirates. I banked around and dropped in low, landing just inside the treeline. I pulled out my high-tech bow, then crept up to and took down one of the pirates with an arrow before another spotted me. Shouting and gunfire erupted from all sides. More »

Assassin's Creed 3 is available on Steam for PC today in the Americas, as reluctantly, eventually promised by Ubisoft. Assassin's Creed 3 runs $50 for the standard edition, $80 for the deluxe edition and $30 for the Season Pass.

For those still on the fence about Assassin's Creed 3 on PC, check out our review of the Xbox 360 version, which calls it "just good enough to make you wish it was better." Or, maybe take your chances tomorrow, when we hear the Steam Autumn Sale is scheduled to begin.

Far Cry 3 is made up of a series of lush tropical islands, one of which is the epicenter for all things multiplayer. Did nobody think what all these explosions and gunfire would do to the beautiful island? Somewhere right now, Al Gore is shedding a single tear.

Far Cry 3's online multiplayer will not have dedicated servers at launch, a Ubisoft representative has stated on the company's forums. Although Far Cry has always leaned toward the single-player experience, it's a bummer for those who thought things may have changed since Far Cry 2.

Reddit members were the ones to find the quote, hiding in the corners of a Ubi forum, where a community manager noted, "The online experience does not support dedicated servers."

Far Cry 3 is set to launch on console and PC on December 4 in North America. If you're confused about what bizarro world you're currently living on that a Ubi game would launch on PC and console at the same time, it probably has a little something to do with the delay from months ago.

If you've managed to sneak up on a bug or glitch in Assassin's Creed 3, there's a good chance it'll be addressed "by the end of next week." A planned Xbox 360 and PS3 patch rivaling the game's hefty day-one patch will address both multiplayer and single-player issues - for example, one particularly nasty multiplayer issue on the map Fort Wolcott where players would become stuck in the warm-up screen will be no more. Targeting a player with throwing knives will prevent them from contesting kills, which should hopefully cut down on cheap escapes.

On the single-player side, just about every campaign mission will see an update. Missing NPCs, objects and audio will be patched in all around, and several mission-breaking bugs will be squashed, including a few that would get you stuck in an infinite loop of respawn and death.

There are quite a few big problems Ubisoft will cut down with this patch. The descriptions on many of these fixes stray into spoiler territory, so read up on the full list past the break below at your own risk.

Far Cry 3‘s Rook Islands contain bears, leopards, crocodiles, and what appear to be komodo dragons. And those things can dynamically hunt the other animals – and humans – on the island. Ubi have put a video which attempts to show off some of these dynamic features, which you can see below. There’s a lot of things on fire, of course, and many dudes are exploded. But will all these things add up to an interesting open world? Bears + explosives is an equation that I am very interested in examining with a critical eye. Perhaps writing down the resulting functions on a blackboard. Yes, I’m going to be reviewing this over the weekend, so I’ll be able to tell you all about lizards versus pirates next week. Review on the 21st.

(It’s got to be better than Far Cry 2, right?) The game is out November 29th in Europe and December 4th in North America. Haha.(more…)

Ubisoft has found its star for a film based on the popular stealth series, Splinter Cell. Tom Hardy will trade his Bane mask from The Dark Knight Rises for the glowing goggles worn by the game's gruff protagonist, Sam Fisher.

According to a report on Variety, Ubisoft has yet to lock down a studio, though it has engaged with Paramount and Warner Bros. in preliminary talks. The script also has yet to be finalized - it's coming from Eric Warren Singer, who wrote 2009 thriller The International.

If it all goes through, Hardy will join Michael Fassbender, who is taking lead on an Assassin's Creed film with New Regency, in Ubisoft's forthcoming film lineup.

Meanwhile, the next game in the Splinter Cell series, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, is slated to launch in Spring 2013.

One of the greater tragedies of the modern age (mainly of gaming, I suppose, but also just in general) is that we’ve seen neither hide nor hair of Beyond Good and Evil 2 since a fairly insubstantial leak earlier this year. And before that, it was pretty much all radio silence. That’s painfully upsetting, because the original was a flawed yet fascinating romp through a world of conspiracy and pig people. It’s a cobweb-coated corner of the gaming universe to which I’d gladly return, but so far, no dice. But why? Why isn’t Ubisoft currently devoting all of its energies to making games just for meeeeee?

It's time for the yearly confirmation that, yes, Ubisoft is still working on Beyond Good & Evil 2. The sequel first surfaced in 2008, and since then Ubisoft has treated it like an obnoxious stepchild, providing vague updates on development, and usually only when a rumor forces a statement.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot tells Polygon that the team, headed by Michel Ancel, is still passionate about Beyond Good & Evil 2, but other games, such as Rayman Legends, have slowed its development.

"What's very important is that Michel Ancel is kind of doing too many things at the same time," Guillemot says. "He was working on Rayman Origins last year, and he's working a lot on Rayman Legends this year. So, you know, when he does that, he kind of puts too much of his time on the other projects that he has. So the fact is that working on Legends is slowing the process on Beyond Good & Evil 2."

Rayman Legends was recently delayed to Q1 2013 on the Wii U. Perhaps once Legends launches, Ancel and Ubisoft will get to work, for real, on Beyond Good and & Evil 2. And maybe they'll even tell someone about it.Beyond Good & Evil 2 put on the back burner to let Rayman boil over

The following info comes from Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot...

On Beyond Good and Evil 2

So, you know, when he does that, he kind of puts too much of his time on the other projects that he has. So the fact is, that working on Legends is slowing the process on Beyond Good and Evil 2.

It's really a game that we've been working, we have worked on, and is a game that we want to do. But there are so many things that have to be done that, you know, this one is going to come in line at one point, but at the moment Michele is really on Rayman Legends."

Rainbow 6: Patriots encountered a rough production patch earlier this year when it swapped out creative director David Sears for Jean-Sebastien Decant. That doesn't mean the game is any less ambitious, and Patriots might even even up on next-gen platforms, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot tells Polygon.

Answering a direct question about Patriots being a next-gen game, Guillemot says, "There's a good chance it can be." Patriots is still scheduled for a launch in 2013, remember.

Ubisoft is working with Sears' original vision, which involves taking down a homegrown terrorist cell called the True Patriots, and making ambiguously moral decisions about the lives (and violent deaths) of civilians along the way. "But that's what is interesting with the concept - being able to give a choice to the person who is playing," Guillemot says.

It would appear Trials: Evolution has exceeded one million copies sold, based on current leaderboard data. 1,001,095 players have so far been recorded on the global leaderboards.

Ubisoft's last update on sales figures was three weeks after Trials: Evolution launched, when RedLynx's latest hit the half-million mark. Trials: Evolution also established the record for "highest grossing day-sales in Xbox Live Arcade history" before Minecraft came in and shattered it.

#farcry Today Ubisoft sent out the latest "story trailer" for Far Cry 3. That term, these days, has come to mean a trailer that will tell us about the story of the game—as opposed to a "Multiplayer trailer" and a "Gameplay trailer." I like that video games are so complicated that they require multiple trailer-genres just so we can all be sure to be hyped about the right parts. More »
