If it's as ludicrously cold where you are as it is where we are, you should consider buying Far Cry 3 on Amazon today for $34.99. While it's not that vacation to Tahiti you've been saving for, the tropical island in Ubisoft's open-shooter sure looks warm, and maybe that virtual warmth will osmose through the screen and into your near-frozen frame.

That Far Cry 3 price is the deal of the day in Amazon's all-day, all-video-games Gold Box event. The first Lightning deal is already up, knocking the Plantronics Gamecom X95 wireless headset down to $49.99. The full list of upcoming deals teases discounts on the way for NHL 13, Hitman: Absolution, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and NBA Baller Beats. Well, the NBA Baller Beats deal isn't so much teased as it just says the game's name. It's just too cold to come up with a riddle for everything, you know.

Pre-ordering the $30 package directly from Ubisoft will net you several in-game items, including the hero Belketh - who looks just a bit like the Grim Reaper - as well as four special weapons.

Shades of Darkness will be released on February 28. Check out the trailer above for a peek at its story (just be sure to set your monitor to "maximum cheese").

Trials Evolution: Gold Edition will land (head first) on PC starting March 21. The game bundles up the previously Xbox-exclusive Trials Evolution and all the levels from its predecessor, Trials HD, into one big, bone-crushing package. Gold Edition features the same extensive level editor, allowing players to come up with all kinds of creations, including ones that have nothing to do with racing at all.

Trials Evolution: Gold Edition will be available both via retail and download services. Check out a new trailer above.

Ubisoft submitted a new trademark earlier this year for the seemingly abandoned Killing Day, a first-person shooter which first surfaced at E3 2005 as a demonstration trailer for the then upcoming PlayStation 3.

The demo, only half a minute long, showcased a FPS with dual-wield pistols and a heavy emphasis on destructible environments, with statues shattering into pieces and enemies falling through broken glass. After confirming it for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Ubisoft cancelled Killing Day in 2006.

This isn't the first time Ubisoft filed a Killing Day trademark post-cancellation. Ubisoft did the same back in 2009, then abandoned the trademark in 2012. Outside of that, there's not been a peep about the game since its cancellation some six years ago.

All of which makes it curious to see Ubisoft retain the trademark now. When approached about the trademark, an Ubisoft rep told us, "No comment for now."

Free 'High Tides' co-op content for Far Cry 3 is washing up on PlayStation Network shores on Tuesday, January 15. The PS3-exclusive DLC includes two chapters, Jailbreak and Redemption, that tell the epilogue of the game's co-op campaign.

Multiplayer-focused developer Massive Entertainment says High Tides features the "final moments" of the co-op campaign's quartet and their adventure on the island. Going by the description of "tougher fights," "bigger competitions," and "explosive moments unlike anything you've seen before," we suspect it won't chronicle a long day of struggling to nap on a rock-solid airport couch, which is how our island adventures usually end.

A few months before Far Cry 3 was released, I was given a glimpse at the multiplayer and a social network phone application that would let you fiddle with the main game’s weapons. Then the game came out and there was nothing of the sort included. I got paranoid, presuming it to be part of a conspiracy. To what end? I imagined that when the game came out and it didn’t arrive, people wouldn’t trust anything I said about phones ever again. Then one day I’d be beaten, left for dead, and a bystander would run up and ask me if I needed help? I’d tell them to call for an ambulance, but they’d say: “You’re the guy that said I could use my phone to unlock guns in Far Cry 3′s multiplayer, you don’t get to use my phone anymore.” They’d put their phone away and no ambulance would ever come. Ubisoft released the damn app last night. I unlocked my bunker door, sacked my bodyguard, and came out of hiding. To celebrate, here’s the trailer for the app.(more…)

Capybara Games' delightful Might and Magic Clash of Heroes began its life on DS, then was adapted into an HD release for consoles and PC. Now, that HD version has been re-downsized for release on iPhone and Android. Clash of Heroes will bring its match-three-to-fight strategy puzzle combat to iOS on January 24 for $4.99, with an Android version to follow.

If you haven't played it, Clash of Heroes is a puzzle game in which you control an army with match-three puzzle mechanics. Line up three of the same type of fighter vertically, and you launch an attack. Line them up horizontally, and you defend. There's a lot of complexity beyond that, but that's the basic, endlessly addictive idea.

Assassin's Creed 3 is toughing it out with new multiplayer DLC today in the form of the Battle Hardened pack. The DLC, now available on Xbox Live Marketplace for 800 MSP, and free for Season Pass holders, is also making its way to PlayStation Network and Steam, although Ubisoft has yet to specify when.

The pack introduces three new maps to the multiplayer side of Connor's Colonial climber, including Charlestown, Fort St-Mathieu, and Saint Pierre. Three new multiplayer characters are bundled in too, namely the Governor, Highlander, and Coyote Man (presumably one of the less popular bartenders at Coyote Ugly).

#assassinscreed Assassin's Creed III is easily one of the most divisive video games of 2012. It was a hugely ambitious slate-cleaner for the long-running Assassin's Creed franchise, and while it did a number of things right, it also got a lot of things wrong. More »

You shouldn't take everything you see in video games at face value - especially when a hooded man, who belongs to a clandestine order of assassins embroiled in a years-long war against another clandestine, sinister secret order, jumps off a building into a small cart of hay.

The thing about wheelies is that they're explorers at heart, constantly craving new, exciting places to pop. So we'd be remiss if we didn't inform you of the Riders of Doom DLC pack for Trials Evolution, available for download right now on Xbox Live Marketplace.

Riders of Doom is 400 MS Points ($5) and themed around the Mayan Apocalypse. Within are 40 new tracks to break every bone imaginable in and a new bike to trash repeatedly, plus ten new Skill Games and "hundreds" of new items for the track editor - all new things to spice up that stale relationship with the wheelie in your life.

#yearinreview Bonjour friends! American gaming's Franco-friends Ubisoft had quite the year, releasing or showing off games for what seemed like all of their major franchises, and revealing a new one to boot. Other than the pretty fun Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, the beginning of their 2012 was defined by arcade and mobile titles like the dangerously addictive Trials Evolution, mobile hit Babel Rising 3D, and oft-delayed I Am Alive. From June on, however, Ubisoft was in overdrive. More »

Ubisoft has announced a release date for the upcoming Might & Magic Heroes VI standalone expansion. Shades of Darkness, as it's called, will be available worldwide on February 28, 2013. Set in time one century after the core game's events, Shades of Darkness will feature two storylines, setting two factions - the Dark Elves and the Necromancers of Heresh - against each other for the fate of Ashan.

The expansion will be available independently or as part of a Might & Magic Heroes VI Complete Edition, which includes the core game and the expansion along with all bonus content, two DLC packs, and a full soundtrack. And Ubisoft has also premiered the Might & Magic web portal, featuring lots of information about the franchise's mythology, an interactive timeline about the world's history, and lots of new and info on the various games in the series. You can see some portal layouts and a bit of concept art for the expansion in the gallery below.

#assassinscreed My heart goes out to Kirk for his struggles with the end of Assassin's Creed III, because I must have failed that mission around 30 times before finally nailing it.
