Though Far Cry Classic will reach European territories as part of the Far Cry: The Wild Expedition compilation, it will also see a standalone release on the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network come February 12. Whether the game will appear in America remains unknown.

Ubisoft describes Far Cry Classic as an "HD revamp" of the original Crytek-developed shooter. "Far Cry Classic is the premiere and ultimate console version of the very first Far Cry game," reads the publisher's official description. "Take the role of charter boat captain, Jack Carver, who finds himself hunted by an unrelenting team of highly trained mercenaries in this nature-gone-wrong FPS adventure. This HD revamp features stunningly realistic foliage, real-time day and night cycles, drivable underwater and flying vehicles which you can commandeer, and more..."

When it debuts on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, Far Cry Classic will cost European gamers £8. There is no word on a price point for the still-hypothetical US release of Far Cry Classic, nor any official word confirming that the game will appear outside of Europe. Ubisoft did recently announce a Far Cry Compilation for American fans, but Far Cry Classic is omitted from that collection. We've attempted to contact Ubisoft for more information, but have yet to hear back.

Anxious to take a trip somewhere beautiful yet superbly dangerous? From now until January 14, Microsoft is discounting select Far Cry content on Xbox 360 as part of the Deal of the Week promotion.

For $5, you can snag Far Cry Instincts Predator, Far Cry 2 or Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Dropping $15 will get you Far Cry 3, while an extra $5 will secure the "Deluxe Bundle" DLC full of additional single-player missions, unique wild game to hunt and a variety of weapon unlocks for the campaign and multiplayer.

Far Cry 3 was very successful for Ubisoft and helped to steer the company toward focusing on more open-world games. Ubisoft has said Far Cry 4 will "clearly" happen and Drive composer Cliff Martinez mentioned last year that work had already begun on the sequel. Ubisoft has yet to officially announce the next game in the series.

To celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the Far Cry franchise, publisher Ubisoft has announced a special compilation package for PS3 owners. The Far Cry Compilation bundle features Joystiq favorites Far Cry 2, Far Cry 3 and, the standalone riot, Blood Dragon.

PlayStation 3 owners can stalk the jungles of the Far Cry universe on February 11 when the set is released at retail for $40.

Joystiq has asked Ubisoft if Far Cry Compilation - as it's officially named - will arrive on other platforms, but has not heard back at the time of publishing.

The Joystiq team is exhausted from the mental strain of composing our Best of the Year 2013 top ten. We need a release, some way to get rid of all this pent up tension, and sweet cooperative stealth play is the only restorative for us. Our very own Xav de Matos and Ludwig Kietzmann will be streaming one hour of the PC version of Splinter Cell: Blacklist on the Joystiq Twitch channel starting at 4p.m. EST on Jan. 3. Anthony John Agnello will be hanging in the chat room as well, so come on by and hang out!

Rayman Jungle Run is free for the first time on the App Store, so if you have an iPhone or iPad and haven't checked out Ubisoft's auto-runner, you've just run out of excuses not to. There's no word from Ubisoft or Apple as to how long Jungle Run is staying a freebie, so our advice is to get to the grabbing while the grabbing's hot.

If Jungle Run gets you in the mood for more limbless auto-running, be sure to check out its follow-up, Fiesta Run. Released back in November, Fiesta Run doesn't divert too far from last year's winning formula, but has its own Latin flavor, along with a greater sense of challenge thanks to the addition of much tougher alternate versions of levels.

You can also find Fiesta Run on the App Store, as well as Google Play for Android, priced $3.

Merriam-Webster defines stockholm syndrome as "the psychological tendency of a hostage to bond with, identify with, or sympathize with his or her captor." If Rocksmith 2014 is holding you captive, you can be downright ironic thanks to Muse's "Stockholm Syndrome," now available as part of a 5-song DLC pack for the game.

The pack's other songs included are "Supermassive Black Hole," "Time Is Running Out," "Hysteria" and "Muscle Museum." The whole kit-n-kaboodle is yours for $11.99. You can also buy the songs individually, though they'll cost $2.99 piecemeal. Muse joins previous DLC runners such as Radiohead and Green Day, which means the game can unofficially provide the soundtrack of '90s/early '00s teenage angst.

January: too cold, too dark, too long, to purposeless, altogether too Janny. How shall we light our darkest hour? Videogames, of course. One of the wee blighters that shall attempt to warm our chilled cockles in the earliest days of 2014 is Might & Magic X: Legacy, which resumes the first-person RPG series after an 11 year snooze. After a period of ‘open development‘, it goes to full release on the 23rd.(more…)

Earlier this year, Ubisoft surprised precisely no one by announcing that trigger-happy paranoia propaganda MMO The Division would, in fact, be coming to PC after all. You know, for three whole seconds there, I was kinda but not really a little bit worried. There is, however, a difference between an earnest PC development push and a port so sloppy it ought to be mummified in paper towels and flushed down the toilet. So where will The Division end up? Well, to hear developer Massive Entertainment tell it, there’s nothing to worry about here.

Limbic Entertainment's Might and Magic X: Legacy will launch on January 23, publisher Ubisoft has announced. The game will be available for PC, through both digital distribution and retail channels in Europe; in North America, it'll only be available as a download.

Rather than follow the events of Might and Magic IX, Might and Magic X: Legacy is the direct sequel to Might and Magic Heroes VI, set in the world of Ashan. The turn-based first-person role-playing game has been in Early Access on Steam since August and utilizes a class-based system for its characters.

It’s a bad day to be the producer of game videos on YouTube. Dozens of YouTubers are reporting that they’ve received copyright claims against tens or sometimes hundreds of their videos.

The copyright claims seem to be coming not from game publishers, but as a result of tightening of restrictions to how you’re allowed to monetize videos. In fact, numerous game publishers – including Ubisoft, Blizzard, Deep Silver and Capcom – have reached out to offer help against the claims.

This gets complicated quickly and is the tip of the iceberg as far as the potential problems of distributing game videos on YouTube goes. If you play games, there’s a good chance you spend a portion of your time watching other people play games, as a source of advice, criticism, journalism and entertainment. It’s probably worth being aware of some of the issues surrounding the scene, then.(more…)

PlayJam announced that its HDMI plug-in microconsole GameStick will host a port of Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame in its online storefront by the end of December.

Originally released in 1993, The Shadow and the Flame featured creative, difficult puzzle-platforming gameplay in the same vein as its 1989 Apple II predecessor. A mobile remake hit iOS and Android in July, which will likely serve as the base for the upcoming GameStick edition.

Funded by a successful Kickstarter project earlier this year, the GameStick met with a series of delays before finally hitting store shelves last month alongside the PlayStation 4. The GameStick is currently available at GameStop and other retailers.

The Radiohead collection follows up on recent DLC additions from Green Day and Alice in Chains, accompanied by B-side releases from Japanese artists B'z and Tomoyasu Hotei.

Ubisoft's free-to-play RPG The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot is now available on Steam, expanding its grind-happy adventure beyond the browser realm.

Combining elements from brawlers and tower defense games, The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot divides gameplay up into brief looting sessions in which you'll raid castles belonging to other players for equipment and treasure. The game joins Steam as part of the Early Access program as it wraps up its closed beta.

Following its release earlier this year, The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot was updated to address fan feedback regarding the implementation of "pay to win" items, which have since been removed to promote gameplay balance.
