Borderlands 2 looks as barking mad as Cujo strapped to a chainsaw-juggling Salvador Dali in zero gravity and the latest video, a seven minute introduction to the game narrated by machinated manly man Sir Hammerlock, is quite deranged. Through all the mischief and mayhem there’s a remarkably decent outline of the game’s actual features, which is actually more surprising than the gun that further weaponises itself by blowing up whenever somebody reloads it. If all game trailers could be this entertaining and informative, I’d be much more inclined to say, ‘oh, look at this’. And that’s precisely what I’m saying right now. Oh, look at this!

Borderlands 2 will have at least four downloadable content expansions by next summer. 2K Games announced a $30 season pass this morning, available at launch, which will make the four pieces of $10 DLC accessible for the price of three. The season pass is available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Pass holders will be able to download the new content as it goes live, with all four "scheduled to be available by June 2013." Borderlands 2 - and the Season Pass - will cooperatively roll into retail September 18.

#borderlands Borderlands 2 will feature insect-like creatures similar to the ones you saw in the first first-person shooter/RPG hybrid from Gearbox. But Borderlands 2 enemies will grow right in front of your eyes if you don't take them out quickly. More »

Heading up to Seattle, Washington for PAX Prime next week? Well, your pals at Joystiq, along with 2K Games and Amazon, have a party on Thursday night that we'd love for you to attend. You like being invited to party-type things, yes?

On Thursday, August 30, from 7pm until 11pm, 2K Games and Amazon are taking over the PNK Ultra Lounge. PNK is located on the 4th level of the Pacific Place Shopping Center at 600 Pine street - here's a map - in downtown Seattle.

There will be demo stations for Borderlands 2 set up at the event, and in-between furious bouts of loot farming you'll be able to chat with a few Handsome Jacks (or a Mike) from Joystiq and Gearbox. If you're old enough you can also enjoy the open bar, which goes on until 9pm. We'll see you there!

Yes, the 2D demake thing has been done many, many times before, and yeah, retro-nostalgia-mania is currently sweeping the planet so thoroughly that the Louvre has recently undertaken a project to update all its most priceless pieces of artwork with Instagram filters, but damn it, I sort of like this silly little 2D version of Borderlands 2. I mean, it’s called “The Border Lands.” That alone is weirdly brilliant. Also, in spite of being extremely limited and simple, it’s actually sort of fun.

You wanna play Borderlands, but you're stuck at your job. Also, the new Borderlands still isn't out, and you've played so, so much of the first one. Or maybe you're only into 16-bit games? The Borderlands remake - an official part of the Borderlands 2 marketing campaign - is here, and it's pretty boss.

Well, okay - it's as boss as a top down, 16-bit, browser-based rendition of Borderlands could possibly be. Incidentally, that's far, far more boss than we had imagined. What're you still doing here? Go play it!

It's not the most obvious way to market a game (especially since it can't really mention Borderlands 2), but where Gearbox (or their British PR helpers) miss out on conspicuousness they more than make up for with wardrobe authenticity. More »

Borderlands 2 will have guns. Of all the things in the entire universe I’d be absolutely, un-hesitantly comfortable staking my life on, that’d rank only behind “Texas is warm” and “Borderlands 2 will have lands.” Gearbox, though, wants to set its more-than-87-bazillion guns apart from the rest of the industry’s comparatively tasteful collection of 63 trillion, so it’s attempting to infuse real personality into brands this time around. If you delve into the vault beyond the break, you won’t find some bizarro squid god, but you will come away with three very silly gun “commercials” and (bonus!) an impressive showcase of BL2′s PC-only PhysX features.

We all know Claptraps like to dance. It is known, Khaleesi. So, when a bunch of the robots showed up at the club across the street from our hotel during Gamescom, we couldn't help but snap a pic. For those who aren't so lucky, there is now an app available on the the Facebooks that will do such a thing for you.

2K Games has put out the Claptrap Photobomb App on Facebook. It allows one to put Borderlands' mouthy robot into any photo - the app can also take immediate webcam pics. Uploading the photo to 2K will enter budding photojournalists into a contest to win an "ultimate loot chest," but the contest is available to US residents only. Shame we can't submit ours then.

The Mechromancer, a fifth playable class free in pre-orders of Borderlands 2, was initially announced to launch at least 60 days after the full game drops on September 18. Gearbox, apparently, is ahead of schedule.

"We're going to beat that estimate," producer Randy Varnell tells Joystiq at Gamescom. He is unable to specify a new release window for the new character, but he is confident the team can complete its build faster than previously thought. Gearbox finished Borderlands 2 and sent it off to certification in July, which is when it began focusing on the Mechromancer herself.

There’s been some recent awkwardness out of the Borderlands 2 camp, but the game proper is still looking quite handsome. You will not, however, see it getting all high and mighty about its rugged Wild Wild Space West charms – largely because it is an inanimate object only capable of communicating through Wimowehs and dubstep. Its main villain, on the other hand, puts the word “handsome” right in his name, because he’s a bit full of himself thanks to that whole “tyrannically ruling an entire planet with a legion of 87 bazillion robots and a weaponized moon” thing. See just what you’re up against after the break.

The Mechromancer's first fully formed skill tree is called Best Friends Forever, and while it won't hand out charm bracelets or stay up all night gossiping, it will hold your hand. Best Friends Forever offers a series of handicaps for the friends of players who might say, "I love Borderlands and I want to share it with someone, but they suck at first-person shooters," lead designer John Hemingway tells Eurogamer.

One skill in the Best Friends Forever tree is "Close Enough;" it makes bullets that miss their targets ricochet off surrounding objects toward the intended enemy. "Can't aim? That's not a problem," Hemingway says.

Another skill tree may end up as the counterpoint to Best Friends Forever, offering a hardcore mode, and the third might be a "shock gameplay tree." Gearbox is still playing with the Mechromancer's tree, but "you'll definitely see a few things with the robot hand in her skill trees," Hemingway says.

The Mechromancer's main skill is to summon Deathtrap, a giant robot, and her tree will include skills that teach him new abilities. One new ability is called Explosive Clap, which has Deathtrap rush enemies and clap his hands together to knock them down.

Hemingway wouldn't give away the Mechromancer's name, and Gearbox is still working on her final build. The Mechromancer is planned to launch 60 days following Borderlands 2's launch on September 18, as paid DLC or free for those who pre-order the game.
