A portion of an Aussie-Nintendo review...

Gargoyle's Quest holds up exceptionally well for a game released only a year into the Game Boy's life. Despite being a little on the short side, the genre fusion remains novel and the action is still satisfying. Definitely one worth checking out if you're after a Virtual Console game for your actual handheld.

A portion of a Nintendo Life review...

Beautiful in its simplicity, satisfying in its depth and assured in execution, Gargoyle's Quest is almost a painful reminder of how good games used to be, and is a solid indication of how potent a gaming platform the Game Boy was, even during its fledgling years. This is a truly timeless release that should be experienced by gamers of all ages.

Capcom's 3DS Virtual Console debut is an unsung Game Boy classic that absolutely deserves this second chance to shine. It's Gargoyle's Quest, a spin-off of the Ghosts 'N Goblins franchise that recasts one of that series' enemy characters as a hero. In GNG he was the annoying, divebombing Red Arremer but here in his own game he's Firebrand, a gargoyle trying to save the Ghoul Realm from an invading army...
