This game seems to suffer from a weird problem that is also very rare in the industry: too much content. It is certainly worth the $30 budget price tag, but once you get over the original overwhelming nature of the modes, you might realize there are several weak links. Still, there is easily enough content to justify a purchase, and I do still recommend it!

Fans of Tetris will be over the moon with this latest version, with it bringing back the classic mode that every knows and loves, as well as other popular takes on the theme that have proven to be widely accepted by loyal gamers. The sheer number of modes, easily accessible local multiplayer and online battling available definitely make Tetris for Nintendo 3DS one of the best editions on the market.

Tetris on 3DS does just enough to warrant the price tag, even to those who have worn out the DS version hundreds of hours over. You have at least a couple of new and interesting modes to lose hours to, a fresh online community to whoop and support for both single-cart and multi-cart multiplayer. But it's really the core 'Marathon' game that will always stand as the title's creme de la creme and the ultimate credence to the game's $40-$50 price tag.

Although Tetris Party Live is available to 3DS owners through Nintendo’s eShop, Tetris Axis impressively trumps the downloadable title by offering a bevy of interesting variations on the formula. Considering the cartridge’s thirty-dollar MSRP, the title delivers an attractive content-to-cost ratio, making it an easy recommendation for puzzle fans.

For standard Tetris and local multiplayer, Tetris Axis does everything anyone would expect it to do. The classic game modes are in there and some of the party puzzle modes are actually really good as well. I’d say it’s a pretty good value.

Many of the modes may be flash and fluff, but the core game is as addictive and fun as ever and the overall package is compelling enough to consider over DSiWare's considerably cheaper Tetris Party Live.

Whenever a new gaming platform hits the market, a new version of Tetris inevitably follows. Not surprisingly, Nintendo continues the tradition with Tetris: Axis for the Nintendo 3DS. It practically goes without saying that the main Tetris game rocks. It's a solid puzzle formula, and that's exact...

With an assortment of new minigames and 3D-enabled extras, the most exciting thing about this latest Tetris release is still the 27-year-old Marathon mode.

Axis does its best to undermine its own appeal, but the power of Tetris ultimately overcomes and makes Axis merely redundant rather than completely pointless. It works if you just need a quick Tetris fix, but it's only the latest of dozens of interpretations Tetris has seen over the years... and any number of those are a lot more satisfying, if you take a few minutes to track them down.

Collecting all of the variants in one place is a good thing, adding new ones is even better, but "Tetris" is still "Tetris," and you can pick it up for just about any device that can play games, large or small. 3DS owners definitely get some treats with this version, so much so that it very well could justify a purchase, depending on how much you want to be able to play 3D "Tetris" on the go. However, for those that may not own a 3DS "Axis" isn't going to be the game to convince you to run out and purchase a new system.

What's Hot
Over 20 modes, smart AR integration, Miis, local/online multiplayer, classic Tetris theme music, world rankings.

What's Not
Will probably not have the same impact as 1989 Tetris.
