The Resident Evil 6 demo is live on Xbox Marketplace, and is coming to PlayStation Network later today. Gold subscribers can download the demo now on Xbox, with the demo becoming generally available for the console on September 25. In case you're wondering, this isn't the same demo that owners of Dragon's Dogma on Xbox 360 got earlier this year.

The fully fledged version of Resident Evil 6 arrives on October 2.

Conan O'Brien isn't the first to play Resident Evil 6, but he has already played the upcoming demo. It's all for laughs, but he does a surprisingly good job of summing up the franchise, noting it has "good graphics" and a back story that's "way too complicated." Sounds about right.

Capcom today detailed Resident Evil 6's post-launch downloadable content, which includes three multiplayer game modes called Survivors, Predator, and Siege. The announcement came shortly after a UK Xbox Marketplace listing disclosed three modes as the 360's timed-exclusive content first announced at this year's E3.

Survivors Mode is a last-man-standing versus mode, but with killed players respawning as "enemy characters" (presumably zombies), able to resurrect fully after killing two humans. Predator Mode sees human players try to survive against a sole Ustanak, while Siege Mode sees each team trying to protect (and eliminate) a non-player character. Let's just hope that NPC is more Sheva than Ashley.

The three modes become available shortly after Resident Evil 6 comes out on October 2. The demo arrives on PSN and for gold members on Xbox Live next Tuesday.

#residentevil They say ‘There's more than one way to skin a cat'. Man, that's such a weird saying. Who skins cats? They should replace ‘cat' with ‘zombie' and ‘skin' with ‘utterly destroy'. That'd make way more sense! More »

During the final day of PAX Capcom had a stream going for Resident Evil 6, giving everyone a glimpse at how Mercenaries mode has changed. Players are much more mobile now, and can use traps (when available in the level) to dispatch large groups of enemies quickly.

A shot of the early copies of Resident Evil 6 floating around overseas.

Resident Evil 6 is scheduled to be released on October 2, but some people already have the game. Wait, what?

“Capcom is currently undertaking a thorough investigation into reports that Resident Evil 6 is being sold ahead of its official October 2 release date,” said the company in a statement. “At this time, all we can add is that it would appear this unfortunate incident is limited to a small quantity of stolen copies of the German USK PlayStation 3 version of the game.”

Word on Resident Evil 6 appearing weeks ahead of its release date first showed up on NeoGo, and various photos and videos have appeared to validate the authenticity of the original report.

Capcom’s statement this morning backs that up, though adds the new wrinkle of stolen copies of the game.

As discovered by VideoGamer.com, Capcom senior VP Christian Svensson confirmed the company does not intend to change the release date, despite this incident.

“The NA [North American] date remains 10/2,” said Svensson.

Capcom’s biggest problem? It’s not just that Resident Evil 6 shows up on torrent sites, it's that Resident Evil 6 shows up on torrent sites, people don’t care for the game, and pre-orders disappear. Time will tell on that one.

Capcom has stated the recent sale of Resident Evil 6 before its launch date in Poland is an "unfortunate incident" involving stolen goods. The publisher told Eurogamer that the situation is "limited to a small quantity of stolen copies of the German USK PlayStation 3 version of the game."

The publisher is currently conducting a "thorough investigation" into the matter, which saw copies of the game go on sale in the Polish city of Poznan last week. The game isn't intended to be released at retail until October 2.

Eurogamer also points out that one person is currently trying to sell a stolen copy on eBay. For anyone thinking of getting involved in that, let us just slide this article regarding knowingly possessing or trafficking in stolen goods right here.

#residentevil6 There's something to be said about a well-designed enemy, and Resident Evil 6 has that in spades. They're not just the old-fashioned, shambling zombies of yesteryear. They have personality and visually communicate what their purpose is even from far away. I ended up really growing fond of them! More »

If you live in the city of Poznan, Poland, then today was your lucky day to pick up Resident Evil 6 on PS3 from a local retailer. NeoGo was able to purchase a German-branded copy of the game about a month before its retail street date of October 2.

"I was shocked when I heard the store offers it and rushed to check it out," Rafał Baranowski of NeoGo told us. "I have no knowledge of manufacturing plant near Poznan. It looks like it has been pulled from Germany, really."

The site currently has a video up of the game and has sent us images of the manual as proof it's a final retail copy. The site currently has a couple videos up of the game.

"I will play deeper into the game over the weekend, but please note that we do not plan to make tons of videos," Baranowski said. "... Capcom would kill us."

Fear not, Six Flags goers, this year's Fright Night festivities are bound to get your heart rate going (yup, we really just wrote that lead). Everyone's favorite Resident Evil publisher is bringing its latest game - Resident Evil 6 - to Six Flags parks nationwide starting on October 6.

Pre-ordering a copy of RE6 (through GameStop stores or online) nets you a discounted ticket to Fright Fest, a voucher for "one free haunted attraction," and "exclusive ride time" on unnamed roller coasters. You can also play the game at "interactive demo stations," though, you know, you'll have had the game for four days at that point. You could always pretend you've never played it and just look really good in front of strangers, we suppose, but then when do you look good excelling at a video game in front of strangers?

Resident Evil 6's ResidentEvil.net will allow players to track their stats and gameplay details via a free, personalized website, which will look a lot like the visualizations shown in the above video. As the perky, excitable narrator tells us, ResidentEvil.net will have real-time updates so you can stalk your friends as they play, without giving away your position by logging in to the actual game.

Many of the notifications, such as someone beating your /mercenaries high score, will pop up in-game as well. ResidentEvil.net will feature exclusive unlockables linked to gameplay and will host regular online events. Capcom is working on a mobile app as well, ensuring you'll never be able to get away from Resident Evil 6. Ever.

Participating in tournaments and accessing content on ResidentEvil.net will award participants "RE points," which can be used to buy content such as Mercenaries costumes and virtual figurines. ResidentEvil.net will go live on October 20, alongside the game's launch on Xbox 360 and PS3.
